The officers unanimously decided that it was in everyone’s best interest to cancel/postpone the KofC Christmas Party this year due to the increase in reported COVID-19 activity. We will re-schedule this at a later date. We have remained active in our core activities: member meetings, Blood drives, No-Hunger Holiday support and preparation for Advent. Please visit the newsletter sections below for the details. As always, stay safe and reach out to someone that you haven’t heard from in awhile. Throughout its 25 years of existence, the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Council has been an exemplary model for the Knights of Columbus in its support of our priests and seminarians, as well as its work for our parish in general. Our support for those discerning a vocation to the priesthood continues today, despite the challenges that the COVID restrictions have placed on our activities. Witness our council’s recent donation of $1000 to our local seminarians and the MO State Council’s vocations program, as well as the work of many of our council members for the 4th Degree Charity Golf event, which donates the majority of its proceeds to seminarians at Kenrick-Glennon. We also annually support the St. Charles Deanery Serra Club in its efforts. Below are links to newsletters that contain stories of interest to our members about these activities, with contributions by Father David Hogan and Deacon Bob Mayo, who shares his personal vocations story. Getting to Know … The Poettker’sBob and Mary celebrated 48 years of marriage on August 12. They have been members of the parish for 40 years. They both are cradle Catholics growing up in Illinois and attending Catholic grade and high schools. Upon graduation Bob received an Associate of Science degree from Kaskaskia Junior College and graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale majoring in business administration with a Bachelor of Science degree. He worked in retail management for various companies until his retirement in 2010. Mary attended Fontbonne College for a year and then transferred to Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville earning both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music education. She taught in the Ferguson-Florissant School District, as well as, starting the music education program at St. Elizabeth-St. Robert Regional School where she taught for 29 years. During her years at SESR Mary received an award for the music program from National Pastoral Musicians organization. She finished her teaching career at St. Alban Roe School in 2013. In addition to teaching Mary served as the Music Director for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish for 32 years before retiring in 2015. Bob joined the Knights of Columbus in January, 2012 and joined the Fourth Degree in March of that same year. He has been an extremely dedicated Knight serving as an officer and

multiple positions on various committees including the Charity, Fish Fry, and Festival of the Little Hills Committees. Mary has been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and has worked at the Fish Fry among other Knights’ endeavors. They have 4 children: Chrisi, Scott, Jason, and Jennifer; 12 grandchildren (1 of whom is deceased); and 8 great-grandchildren. Besides spending time with their family, Bob and Mary enjoy camping

and traveling. Both have been actively involved as staff members for the Missouri Ambassadors of Music European Tour. They chaperone high school music students from throughout the state of Missouri on a 16-day tour of Europe. The students (choir, concert band, jazz band, and orchestra) perform in 5 countries on the tour. In their spare time, Mary and Bob enjoy gardening and various crafts.

Our Brother Knights … Clarke Winkle“I was raised in Terre Haute, Indiana in the Episcopal faith. Being the middle child of five, I seemed to get away with more than my brothers and sisters, who, by the way, all had names starting with the letter “C”, just like both my parents. So, my mom would refer to us as the ‘7 C’s’.

I had various jobs growing up such as a paperboy, a soda jerk and worked in fast food. I graduated in 1985 from Indiana State University with a degree in Manufacturing and Construction Technology with a minor in Business. My last year there, I met my wife to be, Debbie Collins from New Jersey in January. Debbie graduated a semester before me and found a job with MacDonnell Douglas and she moved to St. Charles in November. We were married by December and I joined there after the wedding.

Meanwhile, Debbie introduced me to the Catholic Church. I went to RCIA in my home town but didn’t finish there because of the move. I eventually finished RCIA with Fr. Hickel and converted. We have five children, now adults, 2 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren. Fortunately they all live in the area, some still at home but we are working on that. I started my career supervising production facilities. I then found myself in purchasing and materials management. By that time I got my Masters of

Business Administration from Lindenwood. I eventually I became a Contracts Manager with a defense contractor but was laid off in 2011. Able to start from scratch, I started doing what I really loved my whole life, which was carpentry and construction. I rehabbed several houses on my own and eventually teamed up with another investor who would buy

the houses and I would fix them up with my team. I’m now on my own with my team doing handyman work. I get great satisfaction from helping people fix up their homes. We have been parishioners of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton since 1986. I’ve been in various choirs, parish council, went to adoration weekly, attended/presented about 4 or 5 CRHPs and attend TMIY. I joined the Knights in 2012 where I am a 4th degree.”
