Segar’s House News Michaelmas 2016 IT’S CHRISTMAS!!! The New Shells/Shell Plays We welcomed a new group of Shells into Segar’s this year and they have started their careers in style by winning “Best Per- formance” at the Shell Plays, and thereby winning the first major house competition of the year. Added to this they came third in the Shell rugby competition, and beat all of the other Quad hous- es that afternoon. They lost in the semi-final by one score in a nail -biting game. Most importantly they seem a happy-go-lucky group and all seem to buying into the houses’ bonhomie. ‘The future’s bright, the future’s purple’. The Steeplechase (Second placed House overall!) It was a heroic effort from Team Segar's in the school’s cross coun-try, the steeple-chase. In the seniors all of the house's top ten run-ners were ranked inside the top fifty runners (there were well over 200 runners in total). This is a big leap forward for the house from last year and testament to what commitment, resilience and house spirit can achieve. Special mention to Huw Ne-ville (12th) Jamie Fabian-Hunt (21st) and Max Heil (22nd), also to Winston Frieze in the juniors (17th). All twenty boys that were ranked for the house were treated to a Waffle night in Mr Roche’s kitchen.

Sport It has been another extremely busy term of sport for all of the boys in a number of pursuits (Rugby, Row-ing, Squash, Sailing, Shooting, Harriers). Special mention to Brandon Allen who received his colours for the 1st XV; to Sam Shuker, Valentin Peiker and Nicola Dei Rossi for making the 1st VIII boat, also to Winston Frieze, Charlie Bell and Harrison for running 60 points past Radley’s Yearling’s As (!!) and to Joe Courtier for his 1st place in the Marlborough Clay Pigeon Shooting competition.

Hamlet Well done to Finn Campbell and Matthew Wilkins for their performances in this term’s school play, Hamlet. It was an outstanding feat from them both (and a wonderful production of course).

Halloween and Christmas …..were of course celebrated in style in Segar’s. Once again the boys ‘went for it’ with the House’s Christmas display on the roof. The Christmas Din-ner was a wonderful occasion and the House’s ‘skits’ at the end of term were memorable. Mr Roche’s is pleased to see that satire is alive and well in Segar’s! The Tutors performed their annual response by way of a carol—

God Rest ye Merry Segar’s - 2016 We are the Tutors of this house and we have much to say,

About your gentle ba-an-ter, your many wicked ways,

You think we do not see it all but we know how you behave,

In Segar-ar’s, in Segar’s, in Segar’s, i-in Segar’s,

in Segar-ar-ar-ar-ar-ar’s, in Segar’s.
