Traditional Lenten Disciplines

Fasting & Abstinence: Catholics of age 14 and older abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent. In addition, on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, Catholics from age 18-59 fast, limiting themselves to one full meal and two smaller meals each day. Prayer: Catholics are encouraged to pray more during Lent, especially with Scripture. Lent is also an ideal time to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in preparation for the celebration of Christ’s Passion, Death and Resurrection. Almsgiving: Moved by the sacrifice of Christ, many Christians combine almsgiving with fasting, giving to the poor the money they saved by eating, drinking or buying less as they rely more upon God’s abundant grace.

Helping with our Ministries

Perhaps Lent would be a time to consider joining in one of our many parish ministries. We need volunteers of all ages to support a growing number of ministries that serve our parishioners and others. You can find a form in the parish office, or sign up on line at the parish website.

Fr. John’s Daily Lenten Reflections

Please join me for brief, daily video Lenten reflections on my Facebook page. Gather around as a family and share with friends and anyone who has a heartbeat that might be interested. They will post at 7:11 am each morning -- I bet you can tell me why I chose that time. You are loved! Check out my homilies/videos on my Facebook: https://facebook.com/frjohnamsberry/

Soup Anyone?

The Tomorrow Project, is a job readiness program of Catholic Charities that provides intensive, individualized training for homeless and low-income women. Their gourmet food products have been exclusively developed by award winning San Diego chefs and will be for sale after Masses next weekend. The products are vegan, gluten-free and make for perfect simple Lenten Friday suppers. Donations are always welcome. For more information, go to their website www.tomorrowproject.org.
