During the month of October, our parish will be participating in the Baby Bottle Project benefit-ing the Women’s Center of Greater Chicagoland. This non-profit organization directly assists mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnancies by offering emotional, financial, material and spiritual support thru counseling, clothing and monetary provisions, prayer and other aid. Please take a baby bottle home with you this weekend, Oct 4/5, fill it with your spare change and return it the weekend of Oct. 25/26. This is a simple but crucial fundraising effort by the Women’s Center. Please note that the Baby Bottles cost about $1 each and are recyclable so please return them.

We’re looking for vocalists and instrumentalists of varying experience to join the Choir. The Traditional Choir sings at 9:00 a.m. Mass and on special occasions. The Contemporary Choir sings at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. If you are interested, see Jim Kelly after Mass or call the Music Office 847-437-6208, ext. 126.

all home safely. Let us remember and pray for those who are always in our hearts. The good news of this Gospel is that all we need to do is let God tend us and bring us to produce good fruit. All we need to do is be faithful; God will take care of the rest. Please help the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to bring the love and mercy of Jesus to those who feel left out and abandoned. Religious Education News Congratulations to our Level 7 & 8 Students

Congratulations to the following students who participated in their Rite of Enrollment for Confirmation preparation at our 4:30 Mass last Sunday. Sarah Andersen Leslie Araiza Christopher Benitez Konrad Boduch Yvette Bucio Sofia Castro Claudia Daniluk Michelle Fundora Kasia Giba Vladimir Molin Brian Owsiany Michael V. Parisi Hana Peterson Samantha Planica Matthew Potoniec Lloyd Quadros James Ragusin Jessica Rutkowski Jason Scheer Aidan Schmidt Uriel Serna Jenna Strauss Lauren Strauss Alexander Thomas Stephanie Thompson Nicholas Torrez Lora Zalesny Part of the ritual invites the parishioners of St. Cecilia to pray for these students. If you know one or more of these stu-dents, you might consider adding them to your prayer list and perhaps sending them a note to let them know of your encouragement during this time of preparation.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)

We have been enjoying the children who have been coming to our new CLOW format. This past month they have been learning the song “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” (introduced by Fr. Okoro in one of his recent homilies) along with the responses and ritual gestures of the Liturgy of the Word. They are becoming good listeners of the Word as we dis-cuss the Readings and their meaning for them in their daily living as members of families, classrooms, and neighbor-hoods. Please continue to encourage your children to participate when you attend that Mass. CLOW catechists will meet on Monday, October 6, at 7 PM in the St. Cecilia Annex of the Parish Center. CLOW will not meet next Sunday, October 12 due to the Columbus Day weekend. We will resume the following week-end at the 9 AM Mass.

Coming up During October, Month of the Most Holy Rosary, the students are working hard in learning about and understanding all the mysteries of the Rosary as well as knowing the prayers themselves and how the prayers connect to the beads. They will be leading a Scriptural Rosary for the parish on Wednesday, October 29 at 6:30 PM in Church. Parent Enrichment Evenings begin on Wednesday, October 15 during the evening class period in the Parish Center. The Archdiocese of Chicago has selected “Sacraments” as the Catechetical theme for this year. On October 15, we will take an in-depth look at Sacraments in general and Baptism in particular. On October 22, we will discuss the Sacrament of Eucharist. These evenings are designed to update parents on the various sacraments as they work with their children and assist them in preparation and participation in the sacramental life of the Church. Any interested adult member of the parish is welcome to attend from 6:30 to 7:40 PM.

New Section Opening We have opened up a second Level 1 class in the afternoon due to the large number of students enrolling in our pro-gram. Please spread the word in your neighborhood that it is not too late to register a first grade child or for a second grade child to begin preparation for First Communion if there has been no previous religious education. It is a two-year process which begins with Level 1. Although our Jr. High levels are full, we do have room for middle grade 5th and 6th grade students in the evening. Classes are from 6:30 to 7:45 PM.

GRIEF SUPPORT FOR ADULTS “No one ever told me that grief felt so much like fear”...C.S. Eliot

St. Cecilia Ministry of Care and Bereavement will again have a grief support program for adults, “The Heal-ing Journey” which will begin on October 16, 2014. This program is open to adult men and women, parish-ioners who have suffered the loss of a friend or relative through death. The group will meet at 2:00 PM in the Bernardin Room of Church on the following dates:

October 16, 23, 30, November 6, 13, and 20

Grief work is hard and it hurts. At times you may feel like you are emotionally out of control, people say you should be “over it by now”, but you’re not; you may be angry, depressed and/or confused. A support group helps you understand that your feelings are normal, guides you in understanding the grief process, and gives you a “safe place”, a confidential setting where what is said stays in the room. If you would like to join us or have questions please call or e-mail:

Fran Ficker at 847-437-6208 x122 or [email protected] You may also fill out the form below and mail it to her attention at St. Cecilia or drop it in the weekly collection. You will receive a call before the first session.

If you were in a previous group and are having a set back, you are welcome to joins us again.
