Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament WEDNESDAYS OF ADVENT
December 12 (12—2pm) December 19 (12—2pm & 5—7pm)
How do I spend a ‘visit’ before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament? You can just look upon Him with love. It is a good time to ‘listen’ to God, to be filled with His grace. Some peo-ple bring prayer books, read the Bible, pray the Rosary or just sit, relax and enjoy the peace that comes from simply being in the presence of God. The mere fact that you take time out to spend with Jesus is in itself a prayer of great faith. Prepare yourself to be receptive to the graces and the blessing this devotion offers. You have it in your power to respond—to open your life to the meaning of Christ’s presence in the Blessed Sacrament.
Have Mercy On Us, O Lord All Catholics are invited to spend time each month be-fore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament to ask for His mercy upon His Church in this moment of profound crisis. We come to make reparation for our own sins and those of our bishops and priests.

Aid For Friends We are always looking for volunteers to help with this ministry. Perhaps you would consider being a volun-teer cook for AFF. Just add an extra portion to your family meal, freeze it in the trays we provide, and bring them to the freezer located in the alcove between the rectory and church. For info on how you can help, please call Bernadette O’Donnell at 215-379-3448. FREEZER HRS: Mon thru Fri Sat & Sun 8:30am-6pm 8:30am-4pm
Second Sunday of Advent December 9, 2018
FOCUS: As we await the coming of our Lord and Savior, joy and hope fill our hearts in anticipation of the Messiah.
Prepare the way of the Lord! Today marks the Second Sunday of Advent, and we are filled with hope, joy and anticipation. The Lord enters the world to save us. Our paths will be made straight. Our burdens will be eased. Our darkness will be lightened. Salvation is at hand.
LITURGY OF THE WORD: The first reading calls Israel to abandon mourning and misery and replace it with the glorious splendor of God. Paul’s Letter to the Philippians is filled with hope and joy, embracing Christ’s message and mission. Hope continues in the Gospel as John prepares the way of the Lord, baptizing in his name and proclaiming that salvation is near.

Act of Contrition O my God, I am heartily sorry
for having offended You. And I detest all my sins
because of Your just punishments. But most of all because they offend You,
my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace,
to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin.

The tree contains ornaments indi-cating specific needs of St. Francis Inn, St. John’s Hospice, Bethesda, Women of Hope, Mercy Hospice, Birthright and Guiding Star Ministries. During the season of Advent, we will once again be able to become an ‘extended family’ to many of our brothers and sisters who are less fortunate and share with them a season of happiness and giving. Please feel free to take an ornament and purchase the item noted. Your gifts may be placed under the tree the weekend of December 15-16. PLEASE DO NOT WRAP THE GIFTS. Thank you for making a differ-ence in someone else’s life.

Do You Know Your Tribunal? The Tribunal is available to help people who have ex-perienced divorce and who may wish to remarry in the Catholic Church. When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two realities. One is the durable bond of marriage. This is God’s law. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Even though a Catholic marriage was celebrated, perhaps there was some deficiency in the consent of the parties involved regarding intentions, understanding or ability. The annulment procedure ad-dresses these circumstances. If you are divorced and want to marry in the Church or remarried outside the Catholic Church, please find us on the web at archphila.org under the ‘How Do I’ tab. Phone 215-587-3750.
