The par- able addresses the recurring problem of believers who may blindly claim that they can discern the righteous from the wicked, thereby separating themselves from the rest to form a circle of the good and the wicked, the friends and the enemies. The tragic consequence of such a distinction is intolerance and the desire to solve rapidly and violently the tensions arising from them. Thus we might have believes who, since they can- not do all this personally, ask God to intervene to judge and punish. The readings of today thus, tell us very clearly that God will never carry out these ideas of impossibilities of forming up his creatures. The first reading for example, teaches that God will use his force not to hit man, but to save him; he wants all of us to do the same. The gospel tells us to accept with peace of mind the presence of evil in the world, and invites us to recognize the darnel present also in our hearts and it assures us that the love of God will one day destroy it. Thus, the task of separating the good from the bad should be reserved to God, who will set things right in His own time. The second reading speaks of the Spirit that prays to us. It beseeches the Father to destroy all evil, and this prayer will certainly be granted. For we should notice how God is pa- tient with each one of us in our struggles, and he is patient with everyone in the world. And of course at the end of time will he use the fire to burn the weeds? God will use the fire that a Christian must firmly believe in: it is the fire of the love of God that can burn away all evil that is concealed in the heart of peo- ple. The destruction of all evil can only be accomplished by God alone. Fr. Paul Materu

  • July 19, 2020 Dear brothers and sisters, "God is good all the time!" I am writing you this letter to bring you good news that after careful thought and prayerful discernment, the Archbishop has approved the plan for Phase 2 that is in effect. The dis-pensation for the Sunday Mass obligation remains in effect, so no one is required or ex-pected to attend Mass on the weekends with this reopening. Parishioners will have an expanded opportunity to attend Mass during the weekdays. Each Mass can have a maximum of 50 total people (5 people per open pew). Example: 2 couples on each end and a single person in the center or a family of 5. 25 people can watch the Mass and receive communion in the Parish hall if the church is full (50 people). Face coverings are required especially for ministers distributing Holy Communion and for all who attend Mass. The following persons are not required to wear a mask: Persons under the age of 12. Persons who require an accommodation of exemption under federal or state law. Why Sign Up~You Must sign up for Mass by calling or texting (Kim @ 503-949-9621), facebook messaging (Kim Zuber or St. Boniface) or email to the parish office [email protected]. If you call the parish office to sign up, it must be only during office hours, do not leave a message. The state requires us to collect your contact information. Public Health may use your information to contact you if someone who visits the church tests positive for COVID-19. PLEASE DO NOT assume you can just come because you called, you must talk to Kim or re-ceive a call, text or email back from the parish office or Kim. Unfortunately, those who simply show-up for Mass will be turned away. This is due largely to public health contact tracing requirements (36 square foot space for each person in at-tendance 6 feet x 6 feet). First and Last name and contact number required for all atten-dees. Anyone with signs of symptoms of illness, do not to enter parish buildings, you will be ask to return home. Rules that have been put in force per Archdiocese & government rules. Please contact Sister Veronica Schueler, F.S.E. or Reverend Todd Molinari with any question at the Archdiocese of Portland. 50 people:Weekday Mass times: Wednesday-Thursday-Friday 9 am. 50 people:Weekend Mass times: Saturday 7pm, and Sunday 8 am & 10 am.

Office Hours: Tuesday-Friday 8 am-1 pm. Yours in the Risen Lord, Fr. Paul Materu, Pastor, St. Boniface Church
