Virtue of the Month

In the month of June we will celebrate the virtue of Fairness. A Fair Person…

Listens to all sides before

forming opinions

Shows good sportsman-

ship at all times

Knows that the same

rules apply to everyone

Refuses to twist rules to

avoid consequences

Works to bring about

peaceful solutions to problems

Cheers on the successes

of others

Can balance their own

rights and responsibili-ties with those of others

When we spend a lot of time immersed in a variety of different media – TV, movie, magazine, radio we can sometimes forget that life is not a competition. We are made by God to live together, to share and to help each other. You can’t be a Christian alone. Christianity is all about living together in commu-nity – ideally, one big hap-py family.

When the urge to be supe-rior takes over a person’s life then fairness can go out the window. Fairness, the belief that everyone deserves an opportunity to succeed, is not always about making things exact-ly equal. Some people need a bit more time, space, money, and support to have an equal chance to succeed – to overcome their disadvantages and disabilities in order to suc-ceed.

FATHER’S DAY: Sunday, June 18 2017

God our Father, We give you thanks and praise for all fathers and father figures. We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; May they find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice.

We pray for all fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, foster fathers and friends’ fathers who have earned our love.

We pray for our own Fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering; May they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow.

We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice.

We remember fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. AMEN

CHRISTIAN OUTREACH share Life Recognize, Reflect, Respond Again this year, we have participated in activities to raise money for Share Life. Dress down Fridays for staff members, funds raised from used book sales were all very successful. Spirit week activities also raised funds for Share Life.

Students have continued bringing in milk bags for mats for Haiti; thank you for that. We also ap-preciate all of the pop tabs that have been collected over the year, they too will be put to good use. Any clothing left in our lost and found box will be put to good use and be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Thanks to all of our Youth Faith Ambassadors for their leadership as they worked all year to serve others and to make a difference in our community of St. Basil School and in the world. They made weekly virtue announce-ments and participated in a YFA Commissioning Mass and a Diversity Conference. MISSING TEXT/LIBRARY BOOKS

Each year, some books go lost or missing. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that all books are returned to the school.

Please assist your child in locating all texts and library books in the home. In the event that your child does not return a book/books, you will be responsible for reimbursing the school for the lost item. We appreciate your support in keeping losses to a minimum and in teaching your child a sense of responsibility.

ECO TEAM The Eco-Team would like to thank everyone for

all their help this year to make our school even

more eco-friendly. The Eco-Team has worked hard to implement

Pizza Plate Wednesdays and Boomerang Lunch Thursdays. We have encouraged everyone to use reusable water bottles and fill

them up using our new water bottle refilling stations. We have been working hard to save paper, by sending parents our school

newsletters by email and by having teachers use a special com-

puter program that reminds them to use less paper. We have collected thousands of milk bags and we have weaved them into

four amazing sleeping mats with matching pillows. We have also taken part in many other events like; The Waste-

Free Lunch Challenge, The Great Big Crunch, The Great

Gulp, Winter Walk Day, National Sweater Day, Earth Hour, Earth Day, and various Eco-Workshops sponsored by the Region of

Peel. We have truly had an amazing eco-friendly year and we look forward to continuing these eco-initiatives next year.
