The Rich Man & Lazarus This is a parable of startling contrasts, but its central message is simple: be alert to the needs under your nose. It is not concerned with patterns of good living on the part of Lazarus, nor of evil-doing on the part of the rich man. But the latter closed his eyes to the needy at his gate. And without an eye for the needy around us, our life becomes self-centred and callous. Jesus is asking his listeners to open their eyes to what is around them, and to open their ears to the simple commands of the Gospel: love your neighbor.

Let us pray for a greater sensitivity to those who live with nothing and think of how we might show some compassion to those whose need is greater than ours.

El Hombre Rico y Lázaro Esta es una parábola de contrastes sorprendentes, pero su mensaje central es simple: estén atento a las necesidades en frente de ustedes. No tiene que ver con patrones de buena vida de parte de Lázaro, ni de maldad por parte del hombre rico. Pero este último cerró los ojos al necesitado en su puerta. Y sin compasión hacia los necesitados, nuestra vida se vuelve egocéntrica e insensible. Jesús está pidiendo a sus oyentes que abran los ojos a lo que está en su entorno y que abran los oídos a los simples comandos del Evangelio: ama a tu prójimo.

Oremos por una mayor sensibilidad hacia aquellos que viven sin nada y pensemos en cómo podríamos mostrar algo de compasión hacia aquellos cuya necesidad es mayor que la nuestra.

Reflection

What is Priesthood Sunday? Priesthood Sunday is a special day set aside to honor priesthood in the United States. It is a day to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the Church as a central one. Without priests the Mass could not be offered and Sacraments could not be celebrated.

Prayer for Priests Gracious and loving God, we thank your for the gift of our priests. Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments. Help our priests to be strong in their vocation. Set their souls on fire with love for your people. Grant them the wisdom, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Inspire them with the vision of your Kingdom. Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel. Allow them to experience joy in their ministry. Help them to become instruments of your divine grace. We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest. Amen.

Ayuda a nuestros sacerdotes a ser fuertes en su vocación. Enciende sus almas con amor por tu pueblo. Concédeles la sabiduría, la comprensión y la fuerza que necesitan para seguir los pasos de Jesús. Inspíralos con la visión de tu Reino. Dales las palabras que necesitan para difundir el Evangelio. Permíteles experimentar alegría en su ministerio. FOOD DRIVE This weekend we will be handing out the bags for non-perishables groceries. You can donate as few or as many food items as you want. The food items will be given to The Christian Sharing Center in Longwood (Seminole County). Please bring your food bags back to the church next weekend October 5th & 6th. Together we will help those in need. Thank you for your support.

FELLOWSHIP WEEKEND Oct 5th—6th in the Parish Life Center Come join and meet your fellow parishioners and share your experiences and fellowship after all Masses next weekend. TECHNOLOGY AND FAMILY SAFETY A presentation on Technology & Family Safety will be

given on Sunday, October 13th, at 10:00am in the Good Counsel Room and on Wednesday, October 30th

at 6:00pm in the Church. This presentation is designed to make parents aware of the

effects of technology and social media on our children. We will look at different statistics on why teens share

inappropriate images, the latest secret apps and games that parents need to be aware of and different ways they can

protect their children. This presentation is intended for adults.
