Querida Comunidad de San Agustín:

Este fin de semana, el Evangelio de St. Mateo nos permite escuchar a Jesús decirles a Sus discípulos: “Cuando venga el Hijo del hombre, rodeado de su gloria, acompañado de todos sus ángeles, se sentará en su trono de gloria” (Mt 25, 31). Terminamos el Año Litúrgico proclamando que Cristo es Rey, y nuestro Rey es muy diferente a

todos los gobernantes de este mundo; Él es, un Rey –Pastor.

En la primera lectura del profeta Ezequiel, Dios se compara con un pastor y nos llama Su rebaño. Este Rey – Pastor vela por todas sus ovejas, les da de comer, las lleva al lugar donde puedan descansar, sana a la herida, busca a la que se ha perdido y cuida de la sana; todo esto lo hace con justicia.

En el Evangelio, este Rey – Pastor se identifica con los más insignificantes, con los más necesitados. Cuando los justos le preguntan, “Señor, ¿cuándo te vimos hambriento y te dimos de comer, sediento y te dimos de beber? ¿Cuándo te vimos de forastero y te hospedamos, o desnudo y te vestimos? ¿Cuándo te vimos enfermo o encarcelado y te fuimos a ver?’ Jesús es claro, San Mateo nos dice: el rey les dijo: “Yo les aseguro que, cuando lo hicieron con el más insignificante de mis hermanos, conmigo lo hicieron”. Los herederos del Reino son los que ayudaron a sus hermanos necesitados.

¿Descubrimos el rostro de Jesús en aquéllos que necesitan de nosotros? Si el Señor nos juzgara hoy, ¿entraríamos a formar parte del Reino eterno de Cristo Rey?

Hermanos, las lecturas de la palabra de Dios no nos hablan de palacios ni riquezas, nos hablan del pastor y su rebaño.

¡Con este Rey – Pastor nada nos faltará!

Este jueves, 26 de noviembre, es el Día de Acción de Gracias. Los invito a venir a esta celebración o participar por medio de Facebook en la Misa bilingüe que ofreceremos a las 10:30 de la mañana. La mejor manera de dar gracias es por medio de la Eucaristía, la cual, en sí, es una “Acción de Gracias.”

Durante esta semana hagan tiempo no sólo para preparar la cena del Día de Acción de Gracias, sino también para pensar en todas las bendiciones que Dios les ha concedido a ustedes y a sus seres queridos y expresarle su agradecimiento.

Que Dios continúe bendiciéndolos abundantemente siempre! ¡Disfruten un Día de Acción de Gracias lleno de bendiciones y felicidad!

Dear Community of St. Augustine:

This weekend, Matthew’s Gospel let us hear Jesus telling His disciples: “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne” (Mt 25, 31). We finish the Liturgical Year proclaiming that Christ is King, and our King is different from all the rulers of this world, He is a King-Shepherd.

In the First Reading, taken from the Prophet Ezekiel, God compares Himself to a shepherd and calls us His flock. This King-Shepherd watches after His sheep, feeds them, takes them to a place where they can rest, cures the wounded, looks for the lost and takes care of the healed one; and He does all this justly.

In the Gospel, this King-Shepherd identifies himself with the lowliest, with the neediest. When the righteous asked Him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you? Jesus is clear, St. Matthew tells us, and answered: “I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me” (Mt 25:38-40). The heirs to the Kingdom are the ones who helped His needy brothers and sisters.

Do we discover the face of Jesus in those who need us? If the Lord were to judge us today, would we enter the Eternal Kingdom of Christ, the King?

My dear brothers and sisters, the readings of the Word of God do not speak about palaces or riches; they speak about the shepherd and his flock.

With this King-Shepherd there is nothing we shall want!

This Thursday, November 26th, is “Thanksgiving Day”! I invite you to come or to celebrate via our live stream Facebook bilingual Mass at 10:30 AM. The best way to give thanks is through the Eucharist, which is, in itself, “Thanksgiving”!

During this week, take time not just to prepare Thanksgiving dinner, but to think about all of the blessings God has bestowed upon you and yours, and to give Him thanks!

May God continue to bless you abundantly always! And may you enjoy a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving Day!

THE PARISH OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th to observe the Thanksgiving holiday. We will resume normal business hours on Monday, November 30th.

CONFESSIONS We will resume our regular confession schedule starting Saturday, November 28th from 3:30pm—4:30pm in the Chapel.

ADVENT GIVING TREE As we prepare for the coming of the Christ Child, we reach out to those in need with the St. Augustine Parish tradition of the Advent Giving Tree. This year we are sharing our blessings with the following agencies: Boys Town and Christian Sharing Center. Our Advent Giving Tree will be in the Narthex from November 28th - December 14th. We ask the parishioners to:

Choose an ornament from the tree Each ornament is labeled with a gift item Purchase your gift and attach the ornament to the gift Bring your unwrapped gift to the church

Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

ADVENT is only a Week Away An Advent wreath can be a great focal point for family prayers and holiday celebrations. Advent wreaths and candles are now available at the Gift Shop. Stop by and get yours!
