Parishes, schools, orphanages and medical centres throughout the Holy Land also rely on assistance from the Good Friday collection. The collection is also used to maintain 74 churches and shrines associated with the life of Jesus. Last year, Australian Catholics donated $1.3 million to this cause, despite tough economic times, natural disasters and increasing cost of living which put a strain on family budgets and financial resources. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Please remember the Christians of the Holy Land again on this Good Friday. Social Justice thought for the week: Jesus dies on the cross -
Power and control seem to be dominating values in our world, yet Jesus seems to lose all of these things that the world considers important. Yet at the same time, in Jesus nailed to a cross, we see a person of great freedom, compassionate love and a special awesome power - the power of the suffering God crying out for justice.
Tenebrae Service: Join us for an ecumenical Tenebrae Service to trace the last hours of Jesus’ journey from the crucifixion to victory over death at 7.30pm on April 1st at St James Anglican Church, Cnr Mort & Russell Streets. “Life offers countless opportunities and experiences, asking only for a moment of your attention as payment.
When at its best, attention is the merchant of magic, trading in the only currency accepted at the doorway to a full life. But too often, you spend a penny here and a dollar there, frittering it away until there’s nothing left for
life’s big stuff” -Martina Sheehan “We become concerned that attention has become one of the most threatened resources on the planet. More importantly, more access, more choice , more change, more uncertainty, more expectation, more noise, more distraction, more, more, more...Attention is fragile and limited and when you’re surrounded by an endless selection of things just itching to steal a piece, it becomes overwhelming, almost sickening. In fact it is making us sick. Stress, anxiety, loneliness, guilt, confusion and disappointment are the symptoms and an empty life is the result. It’s ironic that living in a world with so much to offer has left us feeling like we have less, rather than more. But it’s clear that the things we are adding to life are just pushing out those things that make life worth living. We live in a world of contradictions . We care about happiness, but we spend time dwelling on worries and frustrations. We care about our loved ones, but allow our to-do list to come before spending time with them. We care about our friends, but only half listen when they tell us what’s going on in their lives. We care about living a life of meaning, but fill the space for deep reflection with busy activity. Attention is a precious gift. It is the radar that navigates you safely through the world, but it so much more than this. Attention is the thread that connects you with life. It brings you to the world and it brings the world to you. It can draw you in close to a loved one. It

can reveal the beauty of the day. It can breathe life into your hopes and dreams. It is a stream that flows constantly and every experience, memory, belief and emotion you have ever had, started with the kiss of attention. So pay attention this week-it might surprise you what you notice! Paul

On Palm Sunday (the Sunday before Easter Sunday) Jesus went to
Jerusalem to celebrate the Jewish festival of Passover. Many people
gathered on the streets to catch a glimpse of Jesus, waving palm
branches as he rode by. Because it was Passover, an important
celebration, there would have been lots of excitement in the air. For
those who believed that Jesus was the Son of God, it was an
important moment - they shouted 'Hosanna' which means 'Save us
now'.
However, it's important to remember that Jesus was a controversial figure for many sectors of his immediate community and people
further afield. Some people, in particular the authorities, were extremely suspicious of his teachings and claims - today they would have
regarded him as a bit of a political agitator. So although many people welcomed Jesus as he rode into the city on the back of a donkey (a
signal of peace to the assembled crowds) there would have been some in the crowd who were not so sure about him - these same
people could certainly have been amongst those shouting for his execution just days later.
Today people remember Palm Sunday by decorating churches with palm branches, and giving palms out to the congregation, in some
cases fashioned into the shape of a cross (in remembrance of Jesus dying on a cross).
