In our responsorial psalm we sing: “Be with me, Lord when I am in trouble “(Psalm 91:15b).We cry out to God in our need. Moses reminds the people that when their ancestors cried out to the Lord, God heard their cry and freed them. Be grateful, Moses tell them. Paul proclaims how near the word is to romans, inviting them to cry out of their need to experience God’s freeing, saving presence. The spirit leads Jesus to the desert for forty days, like the forty years recalled in the first reading, to be tempted by the devil. Jesus cries out in his need, quoting God’s word to guide him and counter the devil’s temptations. Lent is our forty-day experience to recall the story of God’s saving love affair with us and to grow in gratitude for mercy so near. God’s word is near to us. We name the sin and darkness that tempt us to trust what is not God when what we really need to do is to invite God to be with us in trouble and heal us. Feeding on the word of God and the liturgy can guide us to live the death and resurrection of Jesus more clearly this year. Name the ways that you have know God’s love throughout your life. Face whatever gets in the way of believing that God’s dwells within you. Cry out to the Lord our God in honesty, faith, gratitude, and need. The word is near you .May you help you grow more grateful

for God’s unconditional and merciful love and experience God’s nearness this Lent. Please God, our mercy, feed me with our word and sacrament this Lent. Help my worship of the deepen my trust that you are with me, so that I see you in all creation and make your nearness Known to all. Praying Lent This Year

Lent offers us all a very special opportunity to grow in our relationship with God and to deepen our commitment to a way of life, rooted in our baptism. In our busy world, Lent provides us

with an opportunity to reflect upon our patterns, to pray more deeply, experience sorrow for what we've done and failed to do, and to be generous to those in need. We offer resources here to assist our entry into this wonderful season, from our preparing to begin Lent to our preparing to celebrate the holy three days following Lent. For centuries, the Liturgy of the Hours and the Eucharist have guided our Lenten reflection. Inspired by these liturgies, we offer a brief, daily prayer for each day of Lent and the Easter Triduum. Each day, we share the Opening Prayer text for that day's liturgy. This prayer is simple and, in many cases, memorable. It alone could be repeated several times throughout the day. We also offer a link to the readings of the day, a brief meditation, a link to the Daily Reflection for that day and Intercessions from the Liturgy of the Hours. Each daily prayer concludes with a spontaneous prayer we composed, as an example of the type of prayer each of us might pray, in our own words, for that day. We imagine that some will have the time and desire to use all of the resources here. Others may only have time for the resources and the Daily Reflections. Visit the Site Index below to see what is available and what will be added throughout Lent. May Our Lord grant us all the graces we need and desire. Second Collection This Week’s collection supports the church in Africa and in Central and East Europe. These collection help the Church spread God’s word and train Church leaders of tomorrow, help needy families materially and spiritually, rebuild churches that have fallen into disrepair, and support the sisters and brothers who have suffered for the faith. February 14, 2016 FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

A Liturgia e particularmente o evangelho deste domingo inspirou a reflexão do Pontífice sobre as lutas vividas durante o tempo Quaresmal, “tempo do combate espiritual contra o espírito do mal”.

A mim teu servo. Sim, meu Senhor e meu Rei,

concede-me ver as minhas faltas e a não julgar o meu irmão.
