Blessing of Grandparents National Grandparents Day is celebrated each year on the first Sunday after Labor Day. Here is a blessing that I found: God, who is our model of an ever-loving and patient parent, we give thanks for these men and women who stand in our community as models of parenting. We im-plore your fatherly blessing on these grandmothers and grandfathers as they stand with their grandchildren close to their hearts. We ask that you give them health and longevity so that they may impart their knowledge and love to their grandchildren. Help them to be pa-tient, loving, and kind. We ask all this in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Blessings to you and yours,

Fascinating Facts of our Faith
Our Lady of Guadalupe Cont.
Every year, up to 20 million pilgrims visit the shrine of Our Lady. Guadalupe is
the most visited shrine in the world, unlike any other shrine which is man
made. Her likeness on the tilma was indeed a heavenly gift. When Pope
Benedict XIV in 1754 was first shown a copy of the miraculous picture, he
said “God has not done like manner to every nation,” a verse from psalm
147 a very complimentary statement. The tilma made of cactus fibers was a
course and porous surface that should have been in a state of decomposi-
tion within a few years, but such is not the case in almost 500 years, so also
the image has been miraculously preserved.
The colors are as fresh and vivid as when it first appeared, despite one hun-
dred years of smoke from burning vigil lights. It was enclosed in glass in
1647. Examined by artists and scientists, the conclusion was always the
same. The work is beyond the power of man to produce. In conclusion: The
Miracle of Guadalupe is a heart-warming story that every good Catholic could
benefit from reading, and perhaps the most important reason behind the
Miracle, not previously mentioned, was the conversion of 10 million Indians
in ten years and the continuing lesson to never underestimate the power of
the Mother of God. NEVER. PRAY THE ROSARY!!
In next week’s bulletin: Birthday of the Mother of God
Patriot Day
Three months after the September 11,
2001, attack on the United States,
President George W. Bush signed into
law a bill designating September 11 as
Patriot Day.
Not to be confused with Patriots' Day,
an April holiday in some New England
states celebrating the first shots fired
at Lexington and Concord, Patriot Day
honors the nearly three thousand peo-
ple who lost their lives on the morning
of September 11, 2001. Flags are
flown at half-staff throughout the coun-
try, and a moment of silence is ob-
served at 8:46 am Eastern time, the
minute the first plane struck the North
Tower of the World Trade Center in New
York.
While Memorial Day and similar state
observances honor those who have
given their lives in service to their coun-
try, Patriot Day is unique in that it hon-
ors first responders as well as the many
civilians who died on that day.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Last Call for Parish Religious Education!!
K-8 - There is still time to register for K-8 Religious Ed. Classes will begin with
a kick-off on Sunday, September 14th, at 9:45 in the cafeteria. Parents and
students will be required to attend this first session. We will be discussing
the expectations of the program and have a chance to meet your catechist
and visit your classroom. This will be the final opportunity to register.
Youth Group - The first YG meeting will be held on September 24th, from 5:30-
7:30. We will meet at Mass, and then follow up with food and discussion in
the lower church. This year, we will be doing several different discussion
groups, a couple of movies, food each meeting, and also attending Mass to-
gether. Public school students in the Confirmation program are required to
attend; Dowling students are encouraged and welcome to attend. There will
be a few different speakers and catechists leading the YG, and it’s sure to be
a very enriching (and fun!) experience! The schedule for the year will be dis-
tributed at the first session. Call or email me for details if you cannot make it.
Confirmation - Families in the Confirmation program will meet on September
10th, at the 5:30 Mass. Following Mass, we will head to the lower church to
discuss the upcoming year and all of the Confirmation requirements. Parents
need to attend this first meeting, but will not be required to attend subse-
quent classes.
We still need assistants and subs in each classroom , please contact me if
you would like to volunteer.
God’s blessings,
Melissa Hill
