Foudy St. Anne School Endowment Fund, I am writing to say, “Thank you,” to all of you who have so generously donated to the Endowment Fund this year. We have had a successful effort again, and I am particularly happy to note that the contribution level from our new families has been 56%. As usual, your donations have been placed into the Endowment Fund, and the interest from that Fund is being used to improve the quality of life in the school, to enhance our classroom technology, and to assist families that need it with tuition costs. As I reported last year, we are also planning on replacing the schools roof soon and the Endowment Fund will foot the bill for that. We have not solicited bids for that project yet, but we anticipate that the cost will be significant. This will be the first major roof repair that St Anne School has had in 40 years, and it is a critical facilities need that has been identified by the Archdiocese. We are fortunate as a school to be able to afford these and other past and future improvements to our physical plant and to be able to assist our families without raising tuition. That is the fundamental purpose of the Endowment Fund, and we would not be able to do all of this without your generosity. So, thank you all. Technology updates, tuition assistance, and alumni outreach Thomas White, Principal, St. Anne School It has been my honor to help direct the funds generated by our Monsignor John T. Foudy St. Anne School Endowment Fund over the past twenty years. Since we began to disperse the interest from this fund to our families, students, and facilities, our school has been enriched. Over three hundred thousand dollars have gone to support families with tuition assistance. Our programs have been expanded and further developed thanks to the money available through program enhancement funds. Finally, our school’s plant and facilities have benefited through painting, window replacement, floor coverings, and upgrades. All of these projects have been made possible because of the generous donations made from our present and past school and parish families. Today, we face the same challenges as in years past. We continue to expand and develop our technology hardware for both teachers and students. This year we have purchased iPads for our kindergarten classes. These iPads seem to be “second nature” to our kindergarteners. The students manipulate this piece of technology as if they have done it all their lives. They can explore the sights and sounds of letters, words, and stories all at the touch of a finger on the screen. We continue to increase the number and availability and use of our laptops to the students in grades 1 – 8. I would invite you to come by the school and see how the education of students here at St. Anne School is continuing to integrate the latest technology with classroom instruction and student presentations. One of our areas of focus this year is to develop an alumni database. For more than ninety years our school has educated students living in San Francisco and surrounding communities. Our Endowment Committee is attempting to reach out and share the good news with all our graduates. At the same time, we would love to hear from our graduates to find out what is going on in their lives. What are you doing now? Where are you living? Been recently married or married for a very long time with children and grandchildren? Do you have any fond memories of your days here at St. Anne School that you would like to share? These are just a few of the questions the Endowment Committee would like to ask of our graduates. I would like to ask all who are reading this newsletter to send us your email and the email of any of our graduates or graduate families who would like to continue to receive information about the “goings-on” of our school. The email addresses will allow us to send out information about upcoming school events, reunions, or other activities that might be of interest to our extended school community. As I have always said, “Once you have been a part of St. Anne School, you will always be an important part of our school’s proud and successful history.” Please join us in celebrating the many successes of our graduates from 1920 to the present. There is a section in this newsletter that will allow alum to register or, if you prefer to register online, go to http://alumni.stanne-sf.org/. In any case, the teachers, staff, students, parents, and I would love to hear from you. After all, we are all part of the St. Anne School Family. As Chair of the Monsignor John T. Foudy St. Anne School Endowment Fund, I am writing to say, “Thank you,” to all of you who have so generously donated to the Endowment Fund this year. We have had a successful effort again, and I am particularly happy to note that the contribution level from our new families has been 56%.

Roberta Lai retiresRobert Ogilvie, Chair, Monsignor John T. Foudy Endowment Fund

Since its inception in 1988, the Monsignor John T. Foudy St. Anne School Endowment Fund has been run by volunteers from the St Anne community. Over the years, many have dedicated their time to ensuring that the school that we all

hold in such high regard has the means to continue successfully educating our children in the Catholic tradition in San Francisco. No one, however, has been more dedicated than Mrs. Roberta Lai who has recently announced her retirement from the Endowment Committee after 25 years.

The sole remaining original member of the Endowment Committee, Mrs. Lai has been tireless in her dedication to the well

being of the school. As the Chair of the reconstituted Endowment Committee, I have often relied on Roberta’s good judgment and perspective, and I and the other committee members will miss her.

From all of us at St. Anne, thank you Roberta.

Bishop Daniel Walsh, Class of 1951, returns to his rootsFreda Motak, Secretary, Monsignor John T. Foudy Endowment Fund

History was made at St. Anne of the Sunset on April 7, 2013. Alum Bishop Daniel Walsh, Class of 1951, currently in residence at St. Anne, celebrated his 50 years of priestly service where he attended school, where he was

ordained, and where he celebrated his first Mass. Concelebrating with him were Cardinal William Levada, 9 archbishops and bishops, and over 30 priests. Four hundred family, relatives, parishioners, and friends witnessed the historic event.

Congratulations, Bishop Walsh on your Golden Jubilee celebration!

Betty Yick, St. Anne School mother, grandmother

Betty Yick passed away peacefully on March 8, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer. Her daughters, Victoria, Regina, Elizabeth, and Alexandra are St. Anne alumnae. Her grandson,

Christopher Wong is a current student. She is fondly remembered for her dedication to and involvement with the school. May her soul rest in peace.
