A FEW WORDS FROM FR. ROBERT Discerning Prayer: With the pandemic there have been lots of changes to the rhythm of our parish. For the moment many of our organizations are not meeting. Significant aspects of our Men’s Ministry and Women's Ministry need to be evaluated and changed. I think it is important that these changes be born from prayerful reflection, so I am calling the men of our parish to join in Eucharistic Adoration on Monday, September 21st from 7 until 8 p.m. After Adoration is finished those who wish can join in a socially distanced conversation about the future of our ministry to men in our parish. I am inviting the women of our parish to join in Eucharistic Adoration on Thursday, September 24th from 7 to 8 p.m. to discern in the presence of our Lord, how He is calling us to minister to the women of our parish. Those who wish can also join in a prayerful socially distanced discussion following Adoration in Visitation Hall. Men and women of all ages are encouraged to attend these important moments of prayerful discernment. Please join us! Confirmation: The first of two parish Confirmations was beautiful last week. I was touched by the sincerity of our young people and their openness and desire to receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit. As I type this, it is our hope that we will have finished confirming our young adults on September 17th. I promise pictures in next week’s bulletin. We are so blessed to have so many young people in our parish. I know you will agree that we have an obligation to do everything we can to help them grow in their relationship with Christ and His Church. A New Look for our Religious Education Program (Beginning September 27, 2020): Our goal has always been to assist you, the parents, in bringing your children closer to God and growing them in their Catholic faith. With these strange times come new opportunities and new ways of doing things. We are excited to implement Pflaum Gospel Weeklies which can be used by catechists in the classroom, as well as parents in the home. We have strived to adapt this year’s program to create an environment that is safe and healthy for both our volunteers and our children.

There will be no Pre-K classes Students not in Sacramental Prep will attend in-person classes at the school once per month Sacramental Prep classes will meet in-person twice each month Parents will homeschool the lessons the other weeks of the month (materials and resources will be provided) Online assessments will serve as proof of attendance when classes are not in-person

Sound System Saga: Whenever you touch something it can turn into a saga. The replacement of our five interconnected sound systems has been very complex. One of the most stressful days of my life was when I knew we would have Fr. McCarthy’s Memorial Mass in the evening. I knew that his family would be watching in Ireland, and I knew that even as late as two hours before the Mass nothing was working. Last week the sound in Visitation Hall was horrible, almost unintelligible, and people expressed concern at every Mass. It was also the day that we had the most people in Visitation Hall which made things even worse. I apologize. I’m sorry the sound was so bad. I promise you that the technicians are over in the church fixing the problem as I type this. When I finish typing this I am going to go over there and make them prove to me that everything is fixed. I have been promised that the brand new component that failed will be installed next Monday and we will be all set. Once again, I am sorry for any inconvenience you experienced at home or in Visitation Hall last Sunday. Anointing of the Sick: Please know that the friars are eager and willing to celebrate the Sacrament of the Sick with either you or a member of your family. We are absolutely willing to celebrate the sacrament with you anytime after Mass. We are also willing to go to a nursing home, hospital or hospice to celebrate the sacrament for you or your loved one. Please be aware, however, that at the moment in most cases we are not permitted to do so. Currently visitors are not permitted in either St. Francis, Piedmont Midtown, or Piedmont Northside. During the last several months on only four occasions has a doctor relented and allowed us in and assured our safety. Other facilities will admit us but will not provide us with the necessary protective mask or equipment to keep us and or you safe. This presents a real challenge for us because we do not want to return to our beautiful parish and/or school and cause anyone harm. Rest assured we will do our best to anoint you. When you or a loved one is sick you are always in our thoughts and prayers. This pandemic reminds us that sometimes we just have to trust in God’s love, God’s mercy and God’s healing hand. New St. Anne Party Line Rosary: You are giving away your age if you are old enough to remember what a party line was. When I was growing up our family had a party line. In other words, we shared our telephone line with three other families. If someone else was talking and you picked up the phone to make a call you could hear their conversation. If you really needed to make a call, my Mom and Dad would pick up and hang up twice so the other party knew the line was needed. Many of our senior citizens don’t have computers and it is very difficult for them to pray with other people. I’ve been worried about this. Even though some people don’t have computers everyone knows how to dial a phone. Starting this week our Parish Party Line Rosary will begin every weeknight promptly at 7 p.m. If you would like to pray with other members of the parish simply dial 706-204-1192 and you will be connected to all of the others who are praying the Rosary. There will be a volunteer leader every night to lead the Rosary. After the Rosary is finished you can stay on the line and visit, if you wish. A special note to our seniors who are unable to come to church: Please know that I care about you, I pray for you and I miss you. Annual Catholic Appeal: The work of the Church has to continue, especially in our current situation. Our Diocese is funded in part by the Annual Catholic Appeal. St. Anne’s Parish goal for this year was $148,276. We have already either pledged or donated $133,708. That means we still need $14,468 to meet our goal. Please consider helping us do our fair share in support of our Diocesan Church. I know I can count on you. Air Conditioning in Mercy Chapel: A significant part of the air conditioning system that cools Mercy Chapel has failed and because of this the fans will not turn on when the unit is activated. Once again, they have promised me that it will all be repaired by Saturday evening, “if they can find the part.” As they say, “It’s always something, never nothing.” I’ll keep you posted.

ALWAYS TOGETHER AT MASS If you can’t join us in person, we hope you and your family will join us for Mass online. OPENING SONG: Seek Ye First

GLORIA ALL: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

FIRST READING: IS 55:6-9 Seek the LORD while he may be found, call him while he is near. Let the scoundrel forsake his way, and the wicked his thoughts; let him turn to the LORD for mercy; to our God, who is generous in forgiving. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts. The Word of the Lord.

ALL: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: PS 145:2-3, 8-9, 17-18 R. The Lord is near to all who call upon him.

Every day will I bless you, and I will praise your name forever and ever. Great is the LORD and highly to be praised; his greatness is unsearchable. R. The Lord is near to all who call upon him.

The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness. The LORD is good to all and compassionate toward all his works. R. The Lord is near to all who call upon him.

The LORD is just in all his ways and holy in all his works. The LORD is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth. R. The Lord is near to all who call upon him.

SECOND READING: PHIL1:20C-24, 27A Brothers and sisters: Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me life is Christ, and death is gain. If I go on living in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. And I do not know which I shall choose. I am caught between the two. I long to depart this life and be with Christ, for that is far better. Yet that I remain in the fle sh is more necessary for your benefit. Only, conduct yourselves in a way worthy of the gospel of Christ. The Word of the Lord.

ALL: Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION R. Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. Open our hearts, O Lord, to listen to the words of your Son. R. Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

GOSPEL: MT 20:1-16A Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard. Going out about nine o’clock, the landowner saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and he said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.’ So they went off. And he went out again around noon, and around three o’clock, and did likewise. Going out about five o’clock, the landowner found others standing around, and said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They answered, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard.’ When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Summon the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first.’ When those who had started about five o’clock came, each received the usual daily wage. So when the first came, they thought that they would receive more, but each of them also got the usual wage. And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner, saying, ‘These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who bore the day’s burden and the heat.’ He said to one of them in reply, ‘My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?’ Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.” The Gospel of the Lord. ALL: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

PROFESSION OF FAITH I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

(At the words that follow, up to and including “and became man,” all bow)

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

OFFERTORY SONG: Pescador de Hombres (Lord You Have Come)

COMMUNION SONG: (Instrumental)

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION (For those who cannot be present) My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

FINAL BLESSING AND DISMISSAL

RECESSIONAL SONG: For the Fruits of This Creation

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
