St. Ann Parish Mission Statement We are called by a loving God

to make St. Ann of Lansing a Catholic community of faith. We are a family of diverse people with various ministries: healing the body and spirit, teaching of God and His love,

united in sacraments and prayer, reaching out to the extended community. With God’s revelation of Himself in Scripture as our guide,

we strive to grow in His Spirit and to fulfill the promise of Christ’s Kingdom.

Today is the Seventh Sunday of Easter and World Com-munications Day. St. James says, “Keep this in mind, dear brothers. Let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger.” (James 1:19) Think about adding this to your communication skill set, and follow the words of St. James when we are upset.

YOU THINK ENGLISH IS EASY? (unknown e-mail author)

1. Since there is no time like the present, he thought it would be time to present the present.

2. I did not object to the object. 3. They were too close to the door to close it. 4. Upon seeing the tear in the painting, I shed a

tear. 5. I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.

Let’s face it, English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger, neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren’t invented in England nor French fries in France. We take English for granted, but as we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand works slowly and boxing rings are square. And why is it that writers write, but fingers don’t fing? If you have odds and ends, and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while wise men and wise guys are opposites? English was invented by people and not by computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which of course is not a race at all! And why doesn’t ‘Buick’ rhyme with ‘quick?’

So always try to think before you speak and remember to listen better, as you never know when God might want to talk to you. Be quiet and never quit thinking and planning. Goals are great!

Serving Him Together,

Barb A.

Miss Me—But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me,

I want not rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little—but not too long And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love we once shared.

Miss me—but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take, And each must go alone.

It’s all a part of the Master’s plan, A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart Go to the Friend we know, And bury

your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss me—but let me go.

In Loving Memory of

Sharon Camacho

Helpers Needed for SPRED

The SPRED (SPecial REligious Development) ministry is a faith formation and inclusion program and an agency of the Archdiocese of Chicago, which has designed a unique program for people who live with various developmental disabilities, both physical and mental.

St. Ann’s hosts a SPRED group for adults 22 and older, where members form friendships with their helpers and people from the parish who journey with them in faith. SPRED ministry helps our special friends to become aware of God in their daily lives and prepares them for full participation in the sacramental life of the parish.

Participation in a small faith community like SPRED also nourishes the faith and spirituality of the helper catechist. At present, we need helper catechists to guide and assist our friends. All are welcome to volunteer for our St. Ann SPRED ministry group, whether you attend St. Ann’s or another parish.

A SPRED community worker will guide new volunteer helpers in a formation process through a series of meet-ings, observation opportunities, and training. Helpers are prepared to offer respect, hospitality, meaningful experi-ences of faith formation, and prayer grounded in love to those who may otherwise be left out. This extraordinary process best serves the unique needs of participants and assures inclusion for all.

To get involved with SPRED, or for more information, please contact Annette at 708-418-1332.

May 19-20, 2012

Dear Friends, I know you join me in praying for our little ones who received Jesus in the Holy Eucharist for the first time last week. I was so very touched by the joy, the innocence, and the beauty of each child! May God bless them and their parents for many years to come!

The last Supper Club of the year will be held at Tacos and Burritos on Ridge Road. We received over $300 from McDonald's, so the Supper Club event has definite-ly paid off for our school. I'll give you totals next week. There will be a Fundraising Committee Meeting on Tuesday, May 22, at 7:00 pm. in the Faculty Lounge. Events for the coming year will be planned. Everyone is invited to attend and bring your enthusiasm.

The famous "Egg Drop" will take place on the parking lot on Wednesday morning. Thanks to the Lansing Fire Department for the use of their tall ladder! Mrs. Echter-ling is very brave! On Wednesday evening, May 23, the fifth grade students and their parents will attend a special presentation as an introduction to the Fully Alive Family Education Program.

Our 8th grade class will practice for Graduation on Thursday morning at 10:15 a.m., and will then enjoy a special brunch prepared, planned, and served by their proud parents. Graduation will take place during the 7:00 p.m. Mass on Friday evening, May 25, 2012. We wish our graduates all of God' greatest blessings!

God bless you all,

Donna Lamoureux

Upcoming Events Growing Up With St. Ann’s by Margie Guadagno, Parishioner

From the minute we are born, we begin making connec-tions. Even as infants, we already recognize our mother’s voice and touch and often feel comforted only when in her presence. As we grow, our fathers, siblings and won-derful grandparents enlarge the ever-widening circle of familiar and desired people with whom we want to keep company. We are social beings.

Also from the minute we are born, we become aware of our senses. In no time at all, we discover the feel of our body and that there is an “I,” followed very soon by the realization that there is an “other.” From that point on, we are on a journey to connect to that something greater than ourselves who is the biggest “other” there is. We are spiritual beings, as well.

Throughout the rest of our lives, we seek companions on this journey. For many of us, those companions are our faith community. Some people may spend their whole life within one faith community. Others may connect with two, three, or more different faith communities. Whichever experience you may have had, that community is a very large part of helping you grow and mature as a Catholic Christian adult.

For myself, I was baptized here at St. Ann’s in 1949 and, since then, have received my other sacraments here, gone to school here, and joined with the community praising God at our Sunday liturgies. I even worked in the parish office for 15 years and have been part of RCIA, the Litur-gy Board, Baptism Prep. team, bulletin editor, Religious Ed. catechist, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and volun-teered at many, many events over the years. Through all of this, I have rejoiced in my faith, found peace in the Lord, struggled with doubt, and sometimes been deeply hurt. And I have always found the love and support of this faith community, which is filled with the Spirit of God, to be instrumental in healing me, refreshing me, and celebrating with me. It is my home.

In October 2013, St. Ann Parish will be celebrating our 100th Anniversary as a faith community in Lansing. However long you have been part of this parish, we would like to hear from you and what your experience has been. You can write about a specific memory or just share in general how St. Ann’s has been part of your life. Drop off your story at the parish office for the Anniver-sary committee. We will be collecting all remembrances for use in an anniversary book.

The Traveling Madonna

Our parish is honored to have a traveling statue of Our Lady of Fatima, which was purchased by donations from our Wednesday night Rosary Group.

All families are invited to sign up to have the statue of Our Blessed Mother in your home for a week. Many people ask other families and friends to join them in praying the rosary once or twice that

week. This special opportunity to have Mary’s image with your family inspires you to make time to pray to-gether. As Fr. Payton’s famous saying goes, “The fam-ily that prays together stays together.”

Please call the parish office at 895-6700 to sign up for a week to honor the Mother of God in a special way.

Dear Parishioners,

In these difficult economic times, know that the St. Vincent de Paul So-ciety of St. Ann is here to assist you in your time of need. All information is kept confidential. Please do not wait until matters become insurmountable. Please call 708-745-4760.
