2016 Annual Catholic Appeal “The Hands of God’s Mercy”

Please spend some time reflecting on the Annual Catholic Appeal brochure that you received with your bulletin this week. Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift payable in installments.

Pope Francis has called all of us to participate in a Jubilee Year of Mercy. The 2016 theme, “The Hands of God’s Mercy,” was selected to remind us that our contributions to the Annual Catholic Appeal enable the funded minis-tries and services to share God’s mercy with many others in our parish, our Archdiocese, and throughout the world.

Each pledge makes a difference because all parishes par-ticipate in the campaign, and the gifts of many enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services. After our parish goal of $34, 971 is reached in cash, 100% of any additional funds come back to St. Ann’s to help to fund our needs.

If you received your pledge form in the mail, please com-plete it and mail it back or bring it to Mass next weekend. If you have not received a mailing or have not had time to respond to it, we will conduct our in-pew pledge process at all Masses next weekend.

January 17, 2016 Dear St. Ann Parish Family,

I hope everyone is welcoming in the new year and staying warm. Last week during 4:00 p.m. Mass, the snow was falling outside the church’s windows. How beautiful it was as it landed on every single branch so peacefully. It truly duplicates God’s love for us…landing on all of us, not a “branch” missed.

I’m happy to announce the beginning of Catholic Schools Week on January 31. This is a time for us to toot our own horn and celebrate Catholic education. This year’s theme is Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service. We’ll be showcas-ing those traits in specific ways throughout the week. Here’s a preview of the week:

Sunday, January 31 – In Our Parish

• We begin in prayer with you, our Parish Family.

• Student/Family representatives participate in Sun-day Mass (10:30 a.m.)

• School Open House: 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. All are welcome!

• Registration for the 2016-2017 school year begins (school office).

• Science Fair Exhibit – Parish Hall

Monday, February 1 – In Our Community (School Pride Day)

• We’ll be helping out our furry friends at the South Suburban Humane Society.

• Students and staff may show their school pride by wearing green/gold (or a PE uniform) in exchange for bringing in an item for the Animal Shelter.

Tuesday, February 2 – In Our Nation

• Students may show their love for their country and dress in our nation’s colors of red, white, and blue.

• On this day, we’ll make cards for our Veterans in the VA Hospital.

Wednesday, February 3 – In Our Families (Parent and Pastor Appreciation Day)

• We’ll greet our parents with a little “something something” to thank them for EVERYTHING they do for us.

• We’ll also sign a giant card for our Father Bill, thanking him for believing in us.

• School Open House – Our doors will be open from 9-11:00 a.m. for guided tours of our school.

• Our Home and School Association will host a luncheon for our teachers and staff.

The Lansing Knights of Columbus are working with the St. Jo-seph Carmelite Home in East Chicago on a supply drive to help the 90 children they serve. Needed items include shampoo & conditioner, hair grease or oil, detangler hair spray, black rub-ber bands, Vaseline (large jars), hand sanitizer wipes, facial tissues, foam paper plates, table napkins, wax paper cups (7oz.), foam cups, diapers (sizes 4, 5 ,6), Pullups (sizes 2T-3T, 4T-5T), baby formula (ONLY Gerber Good Start Gentle in the orange can), baby wipes (unscented, hypoallergenic), baby bottle brushes, individually wrapped animal or cheese crack-ers, drinking water (small bottles), 100% juice boxes, gift cards for movies (AMC Theaters), bowling, Chuck E Cheese, Pizza Hut, Walmart, Target etc. Do-nations may be made by contacting William Skarwecki at 708-207-5252 through January 31. AARP Taxaide for Senior Citizens Income tax returns for senior citizens (60 and above) will be prepared at the Patti Leach Youth Center each Tues-day and Wednesday beginning February 2, from noon until 3:30 p.m. Since we do not take reservations, some-one will be in the parking lot at 10:30 a.m. on tax days to give out numbers until the daily quota is reached. The doors will open at 11:45.

A social security card is required for each person on the tax return, and if this is your first time at the Youth Cen-ter, a picture ID is also required. Illinois residents must bring their property tax bill. Also, bring a copy of a check if you want direct deposit or withdrawal from your bank.
