Dear Friends and Neighbors,

It’s January 2019 – who would believe it!! It seems that time marches on and flies by faster and faster each year at St. Andrews.

2018 was a GREAT year for St. Andrews – great comradery, great spirit and great Club participation. With the Club Improvement Plan finished (both on budget and largely on time) construction is behind us and we can look forward to using our new facilities in virtually all aspects of St. Andrews life with reckless abandon. Some punch list items remain to be completed in the next several weeks. The official ribbon cutting occurred at the Fitness & Tennis Center a week or so ago and the new BAGEL ROOM and outside TENNIS LOUNGE are hotbeds of activity.

We recently held our annual Pro Tennis Exhibition with our own Aaron Krickstein courageously taking on the World’s #6 Professional Kevin Anderson (who recently beat Roger Federer) a semifinalist in the US Open and Wimbledon. It was very exciting and Aaron acquitted himself with great vigor. We are so fortunate to have him as a member of our St. Andrews family. Another great night at St. Andrews.

I must comment that the Thanksgiving festivities were extraordinary. 1,000 dinners were followed the next night by a Seafood Buffet with 600 dinners. Our staff is just exceptional to service one major event after another without so much as a hesitation. Kudos to Craig, Rick, Federica, Chef Steve and the entire service team. This is another example of St. Andrews at its best.

Our Annual Employee Christmas Party was attended by over 400 of our employees and their children and spouses. The Board members served food and the night was much appreciated by those who serve us. It was Great.

The 12th Annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Tournament is coming up and I urge our newer members to join in the events – even if you are not a golfer. Everyone is welcome at the professional golf exhibition on Monday, January 7 where Morgan will be joined by her closest LPGA friends. You are also welcome to stay for the lunch buffet. It’s a great event and is an integral part of life at St. Andrews – both from the standpoint of FUN and support for a most worthy cause – the Fight Against Breast Cancer.

Businesswise all seems fine. Since the start of our fiscal year on November 1 we have already closed six homes and as of this writing three more are pending. We are in a strong financial position.

On behalf of Karen and me and the other members of the Board of Governors and their spouses, we wish you all the best Health and Happiness in 2019. Let’s be sure to enjoy it together!

All best,

Steve Irwin

President, Board of Governors

Dear Members:

Happy New Year to you all and best for good health and prosperity. Hope your holidays were filled with memorable experiences and joy with the families and or friends.

We are so pleased with the outcome from our holiday weeks of fun filled activities and services that everyone enjoyed. Our guest cards issued were in excess of 1,300 passes during the two-week period. My pride and gratitude to my outstanding professional team for their dedicated performance in fulfilling and exceeding our members and guests expectations while at St. Andrews. The overall sentiment and feedback to me and others on my team was very positive as to how much you enjoyed the golf, tennis, spa, pool, fitness, kid’s activities, dining, service, and overall facilities. I am blessed with a great team working to deliver on our brand promise to St. Andrews members.

As we enter the New Year we are focused on ensuring the planned events and activities designed for your enjoyment are well attended and met with your satisfaction. We have been fortunate to realize the growth and elevated demand at the Club by our membership as the Spa & Salon is seeing much more usage than we expected. The Spa & Salon new facility is being utilized more than ever as the new programming and building has reflected what members wanted with regards to better facilities at their Club. It’s great to see the usage and demand as well as the feedback on the new Fitness & Tennis Center. Our activity during the holidays in the newly renovated bagel area and at the pool was double the past year’s usage during the same time.

The golf courses have been in great shape this year and compliments to Brad Nelson, Director of Course & Grounds and his team. The feedback from the majority of golfers has been positive to the green speeds and conditioning. We look forward to hosting Morgan & Friends annual charity event at the Club on Sunday and Monday, January 6/7. This exciting event is in it’s 12th year and is closing in on raising 8 Million dollars for breast cancer research in the local community medical facilities. Congrats to Morgan and her team that puts this event on and thank you to all the members participating to help this great cause.

Again, thank you for all of your continued support and input to making St. Andrews the Best of the Best.

With the successful completion of the final stage of our CIP construction we have the Fitness & Tennis Center running on all cylinders. Morning Bagel Service has been busier than ever and the Tennis Shop, Locker Rooms and Mind/Body and Pilates studios are in full swing.

We had another incredibly busy and successful holiday season. All departments have been fully dedicated in providing our members and their families with a first class experience during this holiday time. Members and their families enjoyed all the festivities offered from the ever popular Winter Carnival and our grand Seafood night to our wonderful New Year’s Eve Social. The kids were kept busy with an array of various activities and the Pool complex was filled each day with members and their families enjoying the daily poolside BBQ lunch and some fun in the sun.

Congratulations to our hard working and dedicated staff for providing our members with another special holiday experience and a BIG thank you to our members and their families for sharing your holiday with us at the Club.

As we move in to 2019 I want to wish all our members and their families a happy and healthy year ahead. Looking forward to an incredible 2019 at St. Andrews Country Club.

In January we will kick off the New Year with our highly anticipated Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer event and don’t miss out on our entertaining dinner shows beginning this month. Let the good times continue…

As always I look forward to seeing you at the Club.

Morgan held a clinic before the December 9, Wine & Dine and the members participating in the event raised $1,700 for the Morgan Pressel Foundation! This January Morgan will be joined by LPGA stars Christie Kerr, Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Gerina Pillar, Brooke Henderson, Lexi Thomson, and So Yoen Ryu. Last year the two day event again raised over another $1 Million bringing the 11 year total to over $7.5 million dollars. Most of the money raised is by generous donations made by the members of our great club. Your contributions continue to do great things in the fight against and the research of breast cancer. A very Happy New Year to all- SAWGA family and friends! I hope the holiday season was filled with wonderful times and some fun golf...and I hope 2019 will be a great year for all.

Amy Ross and Wendy Kohansky, Flight 2. Candace Mesner and Peggy DeZwirek, Flight 3. Alice Kent and Betty Ross, Flight 4. Shirley Davis and Shelley Harris. Congratulations to the winners!

And now to begin 2019- the President’s Cup begins on January 15 and 22; in case of inclement weather, January 24. Save the date for our Winter Break on February 12 chaired by Eileen Goldman and Harriet Levine. “Fun in the Sun” includes a Rules Seminar focusing on this and other new USGA rules of golf, 9 -hole tournament and lunch. This is open to all SAWGA 18 and 9 holers.

Aaron Krickstein Director of Tennis

As our tennis season is now in full swing, there are several recent events to report on: The 18th Annual St. Andrews / Broken Sound Tennis Challenge was recently played on enemy territory and after twelve competitive Ladies, Men’s and Mixed doubles matches, Broken Sound somehow retained the coveted challenge cup trophy. A big thank you goes out to all of our members for playing and supporting this awesome annual event. Next year, I am guaranteeing a St. Andrews victory on home soil! Our opening Pickleball day was a tremendous success with over 50 members in attendance. Steve Kennedy and Phil Bagley (both US Open champions and certified Pickleball instructors), played a short exhibition and gave a great clinic to all those in attendance. Going forward, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. is open Pickleball play for all members and guests. Paddles and balls will be available for your enjoyment. Please come out to enjoy the Pickleball craze! Here’s a quick St. Andrews Ladies and Men’s league update: Our four South Palm Beach County Ladies League teams are wrapping up the first half of their respective seasons. Even though we are not currently in the hunt for divisional trophies, our ladies are really working hard, improving their games and enjoying the league competition. On the Men’s side, three of our four teams have qualified for the fall Palm Beach Open league playoffs. Congrats to all players. Well Done! A friendly reminder to sign up for the following terrific upcoming events in January, February and March: Men’s and Ladies’ Pro – Am (Friday, January 11), Mixed Doubles Club Championships (Saturday, February 9), Men’s Member – Guest (Friday, March 1), Ladies’ Member – Guest (Monday, March 11) and finally Color War weekend (Friday-Sunday, March 15-17). Be sure to also sign up for our monthly Complimentary Clinics and Twilight Mixers. With tournament attendance at all time highs, please call the Tennis Shop ASAP for more details and to sign up as these events will fill up very quickly. Happy Holidays and a very happy and healthy New Year to you and your families.See you on the courts!

Fitness✔DOMORE

We are so excited to be in our new home. With both floors open in the new Fitness & Tennis Center you can see how things really improved. Top of the line all new strength equipment by Technogym, (including a very popular hamstring and hip flexor stretch piece) and 18 new pieces of cardio, 15 new Spin Bikes, a roomy stretch zone, a beautiful Mind/Body Studio, and an expanded Pilates department, are just some of the enhancements to make your Fitness Center the best in the area. Numerous adjustments still need to be made and we hope for your patience while we work out the kinks to make this beautiful gym the most functional it can be. We look forward to seeing you in the new building!
