Dear Parishioners,
This week, we say goodbye to Fr. Tom Barry. He will be having daily Mass this week at St. Alphonsus on Monday, at St. George on Tuesday, and at St. James on Wednesday. After, on Wednesday, he takes up his new assignment at St. Katherine Drexel, in Burlington City. It is a parish that merged St. Paul’s and All Saints into one parish. As he continues to serve our Bishop in the years ahead, pray that he will enjoy good health and happiness. We thank him for his ser-vice to our parishes during this past year.
On Wednesday, we welcome Fr. Steve Sansavere who was ordained this Saturday at the Co-Cathedral. In another section of this bulletin, there is a bio of Fr. Steve. As he begins his journey as a priest, we pray for him and that his journey as a priest will be a happy one. Fr. Steve has served in our Diocese for the past 20 years as a Deacon and is no stranger to parish life.
This week, we also welcome Lisa Ann Limongello as our PCL. Her title is Parish Catechetical Leader. This is the title given to her from the Diocese of Trenton. She begins her journey with us combining the administration of the three parish Religious Education programs into one. Thank you again to the three professionals who have led our programs in the past. To Nancy, Donna and Margaret, we say a huge thank you for your years of service to our parishes. We now commit our support to Lisa in the future. It is a great time of uncer-tainty in any area of life, so we need to be together in trying to develop the best possible way to build our faith lives and the faith lives of all into the future.
As many of you know, we have been sending out a lot of information on email, Facebook and on our websites. If we do not have your most current email address, please send it to your parish office so that we can keep you up-to-date on all that is happening.
God bless,
Fr. Mike

ReConnecting with the
Catholic Church
If you've been away from the Church for a while and wish to return, we invite you to bring us your questions, concerns and issues so that you can begin the journey back home to the faith of your baptism. For more infor-mation, contact us at 609-737-0112 x820 or faithformation@ stjamespen-nington.org
Becoming Catholic
Are you interested in becoming a Catholic? We have a process that al-lows you to ask questions and explore the Catholic faith to see if this is where your home lies. Religious Education
Due to the restrictions of “social distancing” and following the guidelines of our state and diocese, we have cancelled all “in person” summer classes.
ALL RE families in grades 3 - 7 are invited to enroll in our “in Home” Summer session.
Already Registered for 2020-21? Please contact us if you wish to choose this new summer option.
Summer In-Home Intensive Program – Materials have been distributed for our Summer In-Home Program. If you have not picked up your materials, please contact our office. Completed work is due on August 31st.
2020 First Communion and Confirmation will be celebrated in September, as long as our state continues to lift current restrictions to allow us to gather in a large group for Mass.
Families of First Communicants and Confirmandi have been notified to select scheduled dates in September to celebrate these sacraments. Families are asked to contact our office if you did not receive this information.
2020-21 Fall/Spring Session We hope to offer our regular sessions for Grades 1, 3-7, Sacramental Prep and Confirmation Prep 2, but this is still in the planning stages, since we need to see where the state mandates lie come September. Our primary concern is your safety and we ask your understanding and patience as we navigate through these “unchartered waters”.
This Week’s Word
Today’s Gospel is about being sincerely generous in our words and actions to-ward others. Jesus reminds us we must have our priorities in order: Love God first and that will influence how we show our love for others. No longer are we supposed to “pat ourselves on the back” because we go above and beyond for our family; Jesus tells us our concern for our families cannot be an excuse for ignoring the needs of others, who are also children of God. Fundamental to the message in Scripture is concern for others – especially the most vulnerable. Through our baptism, we are called to welcome and care for all of God’s chil-dren; to seek out opportunities to offer a helping hand and extend loving con-cern to the stranger and the outcast, sharing the many gifts we have been giv-en. This is our calling, and it intentionally means leaving our comfort zone (or zip code).
This week, we invite you to make a conscious effort to love others as beings made in God’s image and commit to acting with more kindness and generosity to the outcast and vulnerable in our area. Especially during these stressful times, remember to donate to our local food pantries.
Check in regularly to TrentonMonitor.com for updated news and information about your local faith communities and the worldwide Church.

Of the three theological virtues, faith is listed as the first, but why should we have faith at all? Many will say that it is foolish to have faith, indeed some may even go on to claim that it is harmful. They will say, “There are things we can show to be true, and these we should believe in. Nothing more, nothing less. Faith is to believe in exactly what we cannot demonstrate, and so we ought not to give it any cre-dence. Faith is no virtue at all, but vice.” Those who say this are wrong to be dismissive faith, as it truly is a gift from God. Firstly, there is surely not a person on the planet who does not find something beyond their comprehension. Armed with this intellectual humility, we can see that we are surrounded by ob-jects, mechanisms, and phenomena that are, at least to some of us, a mystery. With mystery abound, is it not reasonable to expect that there are things which no one can really comprehend? I certainly believe so, and God, being utterly transcend-ent, would certainly fall under the category of things which the hu-man mind is incapable of complete-ly understanding. It is only with faith that we can assent to truths such as these.
Secondly, just because something is beyond understanding does not mean that it is an unimportant truth. I rely everyday on truths which I do not understand. I have no idea how tap water is purified, but I have faith that it will not kill me when I drink it. God’s reality, and how He relates to our lives, is

the most important truth of all. If God is our ultimate end, and knowledge of Him is important to growing closer to Him, then the way we gain that knowledge of God is a virtue indeed; not and evil, but an unqualified good. It is through faith that we have such knowledge, and thus by faith are we able to achieve our good. So, let us remember what a gift faith is, that it can bring us to the high-est good, God, even though He remains a mystery.

Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priests. Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments.
Help our priests to be strong in their vocation. Set their souls on fire with love for your people.
Grant them the wisdom, under-standing, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Inspire them with the vision of your Kingdom.
Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel. Allow them to experience joy in their ministry.
Help them to become instruments of your divine grace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest.— Amen. (Courtesy of USCCB.org)

Act of Spiritual Communion Prayer
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there
and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be
separated from You. Amen.
