Th e historic London Polo Club is once again gearing up for the summer season.2012 is looking to be a busy year with several new fi xtures.

Elstree Golf and Country Club has changed its name to Radlett Park Golf Club and recently opened a spectacular brand new clubhouse with panoramic views of the golf course.

A spot of tea in the afternoon soaked up with a slice of cake is truly a treat. Its traditionally English roots stemmed from Anna, the Duchess of Bedfordshire who found she was getting hungry at around 4oclock in the afternoon so she would request for tea, bread and butter along with cakes to be brought to her room. Th is became a habit and she began inviting her friends to join her and this soon became a socially fashionable occasion through the 1800s.

lstree Golf and Country Club has changed its name

to Radlett Park Golf Club and recently opened a spectacular

brand new clubhouse with panoramic views of the golf course.

This popular Hertfordshire golf club has also undergone major changes during the last two years to the challenging 18 hole parkland course. These improvements include the extension of the superb water feature in front of the 11th green. There is also a new three tiered green on the 18th hole, which has been changed from a relatively straight forward par 5 to a tough par 4. With the current refurbishment and modernisation of the existing driving range into a

new state of the art floodlit Range due to open in Spring 2013, it certainly is exciting times for the club and the membership.

The members had an added reason to be excited just before Christmas with a visit to the

    SPORT

club from the Worlds number 1 golfer for a filming session for The Sports Personality of the Year Awards. Members were surprised and delighted to see Northern Ireland superstar Rory McIlroy hitting balls on the 5th hole at Radlett Park. He happily posed

for pictures and signed caps and anything else that members could lay their hands on during his brief visit. This was certainly a talking point for weeks afterwards.

There was always a friendly welcome at Elstree Golf and Country Club and that welcome is still there from members and staff at Radlett Park Golf Club. The changes to the course coupled with a new clubhouse and Driving Range facilities mean it is a great time to be associated with the club.

Lords has long been seen as the Home of Cricket and the games spiritual headquarters. But its importance is not merely historical. In practice it remains, to this day, perhaps the most important single place in world cricket.

Its owner, Marylebone Cricket Club, remains the guardian of both the Laws and the Spirit of Cricket, and MCC sides (which play around 500 games a year) perform a key role in promoting cricket - in Britain and elsewhere.

In addition, Lords is the home of Middlesex County Cricket Club and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), as well as the European Cricket Council (ECC).

It is also the setting for the state-of-the-art MCC Indoor Cricket School, the unrivalled

CRICKETS FINESTMCC Library and the world-famous MCC Museum.

Above all, Lords is the setting for some of the best cricket in the world. It hosts npower Test matches and NatWest-sponsored one-day internationals plus most of Middlesexs home games, some historic fixtures (such as Oxford v Cambridge) and the village and club finals.

They have raised over 95,000 over the last 10 years. Children aged between 2-21yrs from the school have performed song and dance routines from pop to musical theatre. The children have been working for the last five months to perform 2 shows at The Radlett Centre which were held on Saturday March 12th at 7.00pm and Sunday March 13th at 2.00pm. The shows were sold out on both performances and there were 2 celebrities arrive to host the shows. Tom Law (from Eastenders) and Ziggy Lichman (from Big brother and Northern Line). The celebrities welcomed everyone and then stayed to watch the whole show and draw a raffle at the end. Ziggy Lichman even got up on the stage and danced with the zumba crew that performed in the show. He was a great support. They were both taken back with how professional the performances were and how much talent there was in the show. The

children sang some amazing songs both from the theatre and pop and the dances had fantastic choreography. The whole audience seemed to be mesmerised continually. At the end of the show a few children were awarded medals for their efforts and enthusiaism throughout the year.

Each number was colourful, dynamic and exciting. It was suitable for any age to enjoy a couple of hours of entertainment. The show this year had a toy shop theme where the characters came to life. Jessica Class aged 17 opened the show with a contempary dance number where she fell asleep and had a dream. This is when all the characters woke up and came to life. Some of the numbers included were, I have a dream (abba), My life will suck without you (glee), California girls, Jai-ho, Waka waka, The time, Beautiful monster, Loose my breath (soldiers) sugar plum fairy and many more.

Each year a charity is chosen to raise the money for, which has included Fight for Life, BBCs Children in Need, Children with Leukaemia and Mac Millan Nursing. The celebrity hosts in the past have included Nikki Clarke, Rachael Stevens, Stefan Booth, Natalie Cassidy, Fearne Cotton, Lacey Turner, Duncan James and Thomas law (eastenders)

This year the chosen charity was Fight for Life charity. They hope to raise between 3500 - 4000.

Vanessa Class has been a dancer herself since the age of three, trained at The Arts Educational stage school, became a member of The Vienna Festival Ballet Company and then opened up her own schools in Harrow and Elstree. After she had children she opened up another school in Bushey Heath. She teaches street jazz/hip

hop and tap to students between the ages of 2 21yrs. Every child of any ability gets to perform in her annual charity shows. She has 2 girls herself, Jessica 17 and Sasha 16 who also perform in the shows. Although the dance school is for dancing, there are some extremely talented singers and a few months prior to the show there are regular singing groups to create some solo and group songs for the performances.

The classes are held at St Peters Church Hall on Mondays and Fridays. There is a new pre-reception/reception class starting in April. Also available are childrens birthday parties consisting of dance, song, hair and make-up. (Little stars parties), available for all ages.

Anyone interested in any dance classes or parties please contact Vanessa Class on 07889405289.

Last year Vanessa Class School of Dance celebrated their 10th anniversary for 10years of producing song and dance shows for charity, called A TOUCH OF CLASS.

there is an increasing trend for both men and women to seen non-surgical, non-invasive methods for achieving a younger look. ere are various options available that fall into this category, including wrinkle relaxing injections such as Botox, dermal llers and skin peels, to name just a few. Erika Moore recently

visited Sister Kay Greveson at her clinic in Hampstead after becoming increasingly frustrated by her lines and wrinkles. Here she outlines her experience. I work in a job that involves

dealing with clients on a daily basis, so my appearance is important. I was increasingly aware of the lines on my forehead and between my eyes. I always felt as though I looked angry, and older than I was, even though I am only in my early 30s. I approached Sister Kay Greveson her clinic within Aquarius Spa, Hampstead, about two months ago as I had been recommended to her by a friend. I was initially nervous as I have never had any sort of treatment like that before. I was worried about having the injections and what I would look like afterwards but Kay put my mind at ease immediately. We had a detailed chat about what results I wanted from the treatment; she took a medical history and some photographs. Kay explained that Botox is a safe, naturally occurring protein that works by blocking nerve

signals to speci c muscles that cause facial expression; relaxing the muscle and making the treated area smoother and less wrinkled. She gave me the option of using a numbing local anaesthetic cream, which I took. Despite being nervous, I did not nd the procedure bad at all. Kay talked me through each step and made sure I was comfortable throughout. She was very gentle and I hardly felt the injections; it certainly wasnt as bad as I had imagined. She explained that

it would take between 2 and 14 days for the full results to be visible and advised me to come back after this time so she could check on the result and have a dose adjustment of treatment if required. It was so exciting to see the lines disappearing little by little each day and I dont think Ive ever looked in the mirror so much as I did in those rst 2 weeks! In the end I did not need more treatment as I was more than pleased with the results. I have a natural look and still have facial expression but no lines!! Botox is not permanent, lasting only three to four months, after which, the lines that were there prior to treatment slowly return. I will de nitely have it again when the time comes as it has made me feel so much more con dent with my appearance. I feel that I look more relaxed and dont have an angry look from frowning all of the time.

IT WAS SO EXCITING TO SEE THE LINES DISAPPEARING LITTLE BY LITTLE EACH DAY AND I DONT THINK IVE EVER

LOOKED IN THE MIRROR SO MUCH AS I DID IN THOSE FIRST 2 WEEKS!

The Hit A-List Treatment At The Harpenden Skin Clinic

Th e Harpenden Skin Clinic is a medically-led service dedicated to natural looking results. Based within the relaxing environment of Harpendens stylish Breathing Space Spa, the clinic off ers a range of leading aesthetic and non-surgical treatments to suit the individual needs of their clients. Janne Maheson an aesthetic nurse practitioner, with extensive experience and expertise in aesthetic medicine and skin care heads a dedicated team of staff , who are committed to maintaining a discreet and ethical service through meticulous yet friendly client care and consultation.

One of the most exciting new treatments off ered by Th e Harpenden Skin Clinic is the revolutionary HydraFacial, which has been shown to visibly improve the appearance of skin after just one session. Also known as Hydradermabrasion, this non-invasive skin resurfacing facial has quickly become one of the hottest trends in Hollywood. Celebrity fans include Beyonc Knowles and Matthew McConaughey, whilst beauty editors regularly name HydraFacial as the secret weapon behind beautiful A-list skin.

HydraFacial uses the latest aesthetic technology to provide highly effi cient skin rejuvenation,

but without the pain or irritation associated with previous skin resurfacing treatments. Rather than using abrasive techniques that can dry or irritate the skin, the HydraFacial exfoliates whilst simultaneously hydrating the area with an anti-oxidant serum. Intense hydration helps the existing skin cells to perform at their optimum, encourages the production of new cells and counteracts tissue damage and aging. Th e anti-oxidant serum also encourages the plumping-up of fi ne lines, wrinkles and pigmentation, leading to an overall improvement in skin tone and texture.

Hydration during treatment has elevated the HydraFacial to

Anti-oxidants, vitamins and many other key nutrients are soaked deep down into the skin, guaranteeing a much higher absorption than if applied separately with a cream. Unwanted debris is immediately vacuumed into a separate closed container as the machine passes over the skin, ensuring a quick and totally clean process.

HydraFacial has been clinically proven as an eff ective treatment for skin complaints such as hyper-pigmentation, fi ne lines, acne, oily skin, puff y eyes, sensitive skin, sun damage, age spots and blackheads. By blending available serums, various skin concerns can be targeted in one session and no downtime ensures a quick and easy solution for better skin.

Th e Hydrafacial is an ideal one-o treat to boost the skin or to create a fantastic radiance for a special event. Alternatively, a course of six weekly treatments is recommended for deeper treatment and to improve specifi c skin concerns. For more information please visit www.harpendenskinclinic.com or phone 01582 462223 to schedule a free consultation.

the forefront of skin resurfacing procedures. Th e facial is a soothing and refreshing experience that is even suitable for sensitive skins and it provides more eff ective and reliable results than the previously popular microdermabrasion.

During the HydraFacial, a hand-held machine is gently stroked over the face in a continual motion. Th e painless device features a specially shaped HydraTip, which eff ectively dislodges dead skin and loosens particles on the upper epidermal

    layer. A rejuvenating serum is

simultaneously directed onto the area via a unique transdermal infusion application.

  • With warmer weather on its way, many of us arelooking forward to swapping our winter layersfor shorter summer clothes, and even gettinginto shape for the beach. However, manypeople may dread baring their legs in summer

because of a very common problem varicose veins.Approximately 30% of women and 15% of men develop varicose

veins in their lifetime, and while the condition can be unsightly, itdoes not usually pose any serious health problems.

Removal of varicose veins used to be a fairly standard treatmentavailable on the NHS, but unfortunately, this is no longer the case. For most people who want their varicose veins treated for cosmeticreasons, the only option is to be treated privately. However, thisdoes open up a lot more options to the patient.

For those who wish to get their varicose veins treated privately, there are a number of dierent options, depending on the severity ofthe case.

SURGICAL METHODe surgical method usually involves a procedure to strip thenon-functional vein from the aected area. e main disadvantagesof conventional surgery for varicose veins have been the need forhospital admission, general anaesthesia and the extent of bruisingand discomfort post operatively requiring time o work as well asrestricted activities. Most surgeons recommend at least 1-2 weekso work depending on the type of work.

NON SURGICAL METHODEndovenous laser treatment (EVLT) involves passing a laser brealong the abnormal vein. Using ultrasound to guide the bre, thesurgeon is able to treat the vein without stripping it from the body.e technique means that no overnight hospital stay is needed or

general anaesthetic used. is revolutionary procedure minimises thepain and bruising associated with conventional saphenous veinstripping and means that the usual 1-2 weeks o work can beavoided, as the operation is often performed under local anaesthetic.

Rivers Hospital also provides Sclerotherapy treatment for threadveins. read Veins (also known as Spider veins or broken veins) area common problem, particularly aecting women. Small red orpurple veins can form anywhere on the leg and while they do notpose any major health risk, they may cause discomfort.Sclerotherapy works by injecting the thread veins with a smallamount of solution, making them fade.

As with all Rivers services, these consultations and treatments arecarried out by fully trained and registered healthcare professionals ina clean, professional and friendly environment clinic, with strictmeasures for the control of infection

  • the hair growthcycle...1. Anagen - hair is growing

and is connected to a blood supply at its root

    2. Catagen - hair starts to detach from the root

    3. Telogen - hair is about to fall out and may be replaced by another hair.

The best time to treat hair is during the Anagen stage when it is still attached to the root.

air removal is an issue for most women at some stage of their

life. Whether it is waxing before a summer holiday,

plucking or threading their eyebrows or tweezing out strong dark hairs that appear on the chin; women have always had to work hard to keep unwanted hairs at bay. Th ese days, even men are having their chests and backs waxed in the quest to be a modern or metro man.

In fact, hair growth can aff ect up to 70% of the population at some time during their lives and with the increasing popularity of hair removal, there have been a number of developments in permanent hair reduction technology. Th rough research into new technology, I have been able to introduce less painful methods of hair removal for clients who dont like waxing, electrolysis or threading.

    TERMINAL HAIRIntense Pulse Light (IPL)

Terminal Hair, thick dark hair that can grow anywhere on the body, can be aff ected by hormones, certain medical conditions and medication. If it contains dark pigment it can be treated with IPL.

IPL emits a light which is attracted to pigment in the hair and converts this light to thermal heat at the base of the hair follicle, heating it to 70 degrees which then destroys

be used to treat these hairs, but it can be a painful and time-consuming technique.

Applisonix is a new method that uses ultrasound technology to destroy the root of the hair painlessly and eff ectively. A probe is used to hold the hair whilst ultrasound is released down the hair shaft to the root so that the hair literally slides out. Clinical studies have shown that there is up to a 40% reduction in hair growth after the fi rst treatment.

Applisonix usually requires six to 12 treatments at monthly intervals.

    VELLUS HAIRDannes Alkaline Wash

Vellus hair is the fi ne, downy hair that appears on the sides of the face, upper lip and chin. It often occurs when women are pregnant, menopausal or suff ering from severe stress and can be diffi cult to eradicate permanently. Most women keep it at bay with waxing or threading it, but it usually grows back.

Th e Dannes Alkaline Wash was devised by a dermatologist to remove Vellus hair permanently. After a detailed consultation and patch test, an alkaline paste is applied to the area. Th e alkaline raises the PH level of the skin and destroys the superfi cial root underneath. Th e area is then returned to its normal PH level and is left smooth and hair free.

Results can be achieved with as little as three to six treatments.

    HEALTH & BEAUTY

So next time the sun rears its head, be prepared with a spring skin routine. Transform those frosty, pasty arms and legs into glowing summer-ready limbs that dont look like theyve been hidden away in opaque tights

and woolly cardigans for months. Its time to glow and go with our foolproof skincare guide.

Revive skinIf your skin has been in hibernation under snuggly duvets and winter

layers, its time for a spring wake-up call. Kick-start your morning with a dry body brushing session prior to your shower. Brushing in circular motions will also remove redundant dry, dead skin cells. Dry body brushing increases circulation

and brings nutrients to the skins surface for healthy-looking skin, explains Jane Calderwood, beauty therapist at Champneys. It also gives an uplifting feeling, helps to shake off sleep and prepares you for the day ahead.

    Bring on Spring Skin

The recent mini-heatwave caught us all off guard. But along with the ice creams andsunbathing sessions came the annual horror of baring skin for the first time. Sales of SOS

fake tan at Debenhams rocketed by 105% in reaction to the freakish warm weather.

  • Ditch any aromas that make you feel drowsy and use an invigorating shower gel with uplifting fragrances to start your day on a high. Choose fresh, light spring smells, Calderwood advises. Tangy products like Champneys Citrus Blush range are perfect for this time of year as theyre uplifting and energising, with notes of ginger, grapefruit, lemon and vanilla.

Silky smoothRadiant skin requires more than just a hero moisturising product. The first step towards silky soft skin is to exfoliate once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells from the skins surface, explains Dr Sue Mayou, cosmetic dermatologist and Aveeno consultant. This helps to leave the skin smooth and improves light reflection off the surface which gives a healthy glow and a good base on which to apply a moisturiser. If you want silky skin, its important to adopt a religiously regular moisturising regime to maximise hydration - random and slapdash applications just wont do.

Mayou recommends choosing a light moisturiser or even a spritz lotion that will sink in easily with minimum effort. If you have dry or sensitive skin, certain areas like elbows, knees and ankles are likely to be drier than others, so pay particular attention to them when moisturising, she suggests.

During the skin-baring season, hair removal methods like shaving go up a notch. For perfect pins, avoid irritated skin by using lukewarm water and moisturising afterwards.

Get the glowYou dont need to dash out for

an uber-dark spray tan whenever sunshines on the way. A light self-tan is all you need to look like a naturally more golden delicious version of yourself.

For super-subtle try a gradual tan, but you may need to take extra care with the application, warns Sienna X spray tan guru James Harknett. The results look great but the lotion is often colourless, so be wary of those without a guide colour - take time and make sure you cover everywhere.

If your self-tan lotion looks too dark, Harknett recommends mixing with a moisturiser to ease yourself into spring, and always use a tanning mitt for an even application. Dry body mists are another speedy way to achieve a spring glow. Moisturise first - avoiding anything too oily or thick - and then spray evenly.

For a finishing touch, give your skin an enviable spring sheen with

a shimmer. Harknett says: Look for products that contain subtle shimmer particles so you end up looking more spring goddess than Christmas decoration.

Theres refreshing and then theres ridiculously moreish. I couldnt stop licking my lips with this delicious colourless balm - thankfully the product is 100% natural. It had an immediate softening effect butsadly no long-term results.

Carmex Moisture Plus in Peach Sheer Tint SPF15, 4.49BootsSheer and fruity, this moisturising

tint with SPF produced an unexpected tingly effect. As the consistency is quite thin, it didnt seem to last long on my lips but I loved the natural-look pink gloss.

Korres Mandarin Lip Butter Stick SPF15 in Peach, 6.50 This lip butter is creamy and rich and the peachy colour packs quite a punch. A great alternative if you want a sheer lipstick that has SPF protection and nourishing properties in one tube.0870 850 3868

TOP TIPS TO INSPIRE YOUR CHILDREN TO BECOME HEALTHIER Take kids shopping and let them select nutritious foods. Let your children help out in the kitchen and let them wash fruits and vegetables. Use simple recipes and allow them to follow instructions alongside you. Encourage children to make simple fruit and vegetable dishes (for example: raw vegetable sticks, fruit kebabs, fruit salads, healthy dips, juices, dairy-free milkshakes and desserts). Demonstrate the positive value of antioxidants in fruits, vegetables, beans, seeds and nuts and how they contribute to good health energy boosters and mood elevators. Introduce new food every week; have taste-test samples. Discuss with them how you are going to eliminate junk foods and substitute with nutritious dishes. Praise your children for their contribution children will learn to develop confi dence in their abilities. Raising healthy children does not need to be time-consuming. Daily smoothies and juices are a fantastic source of nutrients when you have little time to prepare food. Juicing at home is the key to giving the entire family a radiant and energetic life.

chemical additives have upset our entire chemistry, resulting in health complications, food intolerances, sensitivities and allergies, for example:Saturated fat:obesity; high blood pressure; high cholesterol; fatigue; learning disturbancesSalt:high blood pressure; water retention; kidney stones

Re ned our:immune defi ciency; low energy; chronic fatigue; parasitesArti cial avourings and colourings: allergies; skin reactions; eczema; asthmaSugar and sweeteners:dental cavities; diabetes; hyperactivity; mood swings; tantrums; aggressionWhen we begin to realise

the health risks associated with these processed foods and food additives we start to eliminate them and opt for more wholesome alternatives that taste delicious and do not put our health at risk.Body and brain functions are

infl uenced by a wide range of nutrients. For good health and optimum mind power a child needs a variety of foods. Th e body needs carbohydrates, protein and fat, as well as vitamins, minerals, enzymes and water. Nature has given us a wide variety of plant foods that are rich in nutritional content. Unprocessed food is the key to health and longevity.

  • Work, with its horny-handed connotations, was once a dirty word in public schools. Teachers, like so many dons from Inspector Morse, preached that academe prized high ideals. Youth was golden, and a bright young thing could not serve both God and Mammon. Many pupils graduated to ivory towers but then failed to grasp the glittering prizes of the wider world, having received an education that privileged purely academic content over those broader skills essential to success in life, once one has left university.

Th e nature of work is changing at a staggering speed. Todays generation face with choices that go far beyond those faced by previous generations. Increasingly, they will have to become familiar and skilled at working with people of diff erent nationalities, much of their lives, they will be working with people virtually. Most will have three careers, rather than one. At its heart, the modern workplace demands vision, creativity, and innovation as well as the lessons gleaned from real experience. Th e leaders of today and tomorrow will lead groups and communities of people who are more diverse, virtual and global: it is a complex challenge.

Its tough out there. A lack of Commercial Awareness is the single most common failing in graduates applying for employment (CIHE What do employers Th ink and Want?). Th e Times Top 100

solve problems creatively and think outside the box; and integrate an awareness of the commercial dimension into any project.

Independent schools have responded to this shift. Th eir Careers Services work increasingly closely with employers and universities to understand what the UKs top employers are looking for in school leavers and graduates. Th ey aim to provide clear, accurate and up-to-date information on the graduate job market and the employment prospects for todays students, so as to advise their Sixth Formers on the universities and degree courses that are most likely to lead to a successful graduate job in the future.

Most Independent schools off er excellent programmes ensuring the development of key employment skills, personal attributes and wider experience as part of the school curriculum.

At Merchant Taylors, for example, every term the Career Service runs a variety of Employer and University Led Skills sessions, which include: making an impact at interview; making eff ective applications; improving your CV; developing key attributes in leadership, communication and

    EDUCATION

Indepe ndent schoo ls and the world workGraduate Employers received an average of 45 applications per vacancy in 2011. A mere 23% of fi nal year students from the UKs top 30 universities expect to start a graduate job after fi nishing their degrees. (UK Graduate Careers Survey 2011).

And for schools, most signifi cantly, a record 36% of this years graduate jobs at the leading employers will go to applicants who have already had work experience with the organisation. (Th e Graduate market in 2012).

Finding work that excites and inspires your son or daughter will be one of the keys to the good life you wish for them. In order to do this they will have to discover skill and personal competences that they can master deeply. Th ere are literally thousands of diff erent types of jobs. Most studies suggest that about 40% of graduate jobs are open to graduates of any discipline. Employability skills is the buzzphrase used frequently by employers and education professionals. Th e term sounds rather grey. But the skills themselves are those soft skills that so often make the diff erence between success and failure in a career: the ability to lead eff ectively, to communicate well, to radiate enthusiasm and commitment, work productively as part of a team,

teamwork; psychometric testing; Careers Conventions and Higher Education Conventions. Our mock interview programme for students is sector specifi c, involving employers, the universities and our alumni in conducting competency-based interviews, whether the fi eld is Law, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Finance, Dentistry, or the traditional Socratic interviews of Oxford and Cambridge.

Students undertake high quality work experience to improve their skills, commercial awareness and marketability. In most independent schools, and certainly at MTS, alumni are a rich source of information and advice about the realities of a particular occupation, career paths, recommended further study and the value or otherwise of gap year activities. Such networking provides current students with hard-won personal insights into an organisation or occupation, as well as creating valuable opportunities for future networking in their own lives.

If students have done all of the above by the time they leave school, they will be better prepared than many fi nal year university students suddenly faced with the conundrum of what to do with their lives. Th ey will be well on their way to being able to respond to the ever-changing demands of the employment market and look forward with confi dence to a prosperous and happy future.

    EDUCATION

At St. Helens girls are encouraged to take an active involvement in their learning as part of a broad education that promotes independent learning and creative thinking.

Independent Learning Weeks are a regular feature of the curriculum, enabling girls to work individually, and as part of a team, to produce pieces of work that they can be really proud of by taking control of their own learning. Further up the school

there are opportunities for students to develop their critical thinking skills through activities such as the Year 9 Enquiry project where girls undertake individual student-led research on a topic of their choice.

Sixth Form students can choose to study A Levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma, which places emphasis on developing the skills needed for university and beyond, focusing

on independent research, critical thinking and active involvement in the community. All students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning through effective planning of their time and a critical approach to their studies.

Outside the classroom, a varied extra-curricular programme offers opportunities to develop key skills and to build confidence. Girls are encouraged to develop

leadership skills and take the initiative through activities such as the Combined Cadet Force, operated jointly with Merchant Taylors School, or by taking on roles of responsibility within the school community.

By developing those core skills, upon leaving St. Helens, each girl is confident, self-reliant and independent, ready to take their place in the adult world.
