Current Status of IT/ITES 1. Skills Development
ICT Curriculum for Primary, Secondary School, and Teacher training is in place
3 Institutions, 3 Universities and 5 colleges that offer ICT training programmes & specialized IT courses in CISCO, ICDL, IT Essentials, etc
2525 (~4% ) students enrolled in various colleges and Universities are studying ICT

32 (94%) Public Teacher Training Colleges are VSAT connected & give skills for using ICT as a T&L Tool
Some Vocational VETA accredited (public & private) Colleges/Centres offer IT Training IT Training

Current Status of IT/ITES2. Mobile/Internet Technology There are 7 mobile phone operators and 37 application
service operators By mid 2009 mobile phone subscribers would reach 13
million (26% population penetration level) – use: financial transactions, NECTA/Univ reports, etc
Internet usage: demand is high but limited by high connectivity cost and lack of reliable power mainly in rural areas

National ICT Infrastructure Development- Country wide Coverage 10,000 km of Fiber Optic Network (2011) - Tz Fibre Optic layout (Feb 2009).ppt
Size of the ICT industry is ~US$ 500 m per annum (~90% communication usage) with growth of ~25%

Universal Communications Access Fund establishment- aim to reach rural areas with PPP- funded by %-age of mobile phone operators’ revenue (TCRA)
Special Economic zones (SEZ) established- create a Science or Cyber Park in DSM- provide the right environment for the harnessing of
ICT for sustainable socio-economic development - attract foreign & domestic private ICT investments

technology to all citizens- The project is at advanced stage.
