c) The aggressive Nationalism led to the formation of power blocks.2. Imperialism :

a) As industrial capital developed and accumulated, the European nations and theirfunctional institutions look for safe investment opportunities in colonies.

b) The race for establishing colonies by new industrial powers led to red vision of coloniesand created much stress often leading to wars.

c) These imperialist clashes brought about the world wars.3. Secret alliances :

a) The secret alliances also played a vital role in the two world wars.b) Bismark made ‘Triple Alliance’ with Austria and Italy in 1882.c) Russia, France and Britain formed the Triple Entente in 1907.d) Both these alliances were jealous and suspicious of one another.

4. Militarism:a) Each Country built massive standing armies and competed with each other in increasing

armaments and built a mindset among the people to support wars.b) In order to take revenge of humiliation meted out in the Versailles treaty, Germany

began to build her military.c) In order to save themselves from the future danger from Germany, every other country

started improving military strength.Some of causes are prevalent even today. Some factors like Imperialism,

Militarism, Capitalism, Nationalism exists among nations like USA, Pakistan, China,Iraq, Russia etc. which are posing a constant threat of outbreak of another major warsimilar to World Wars.

Democracies have been identified as most prominent political system across the world.Do you think it has been able to take care of all expectations of people? Based on theexamples cited in 21st chapter write a short note on‘ democracy and social movements’.

A) 1. Though Democracy is so far the best form of government throughout the world, it has somemajor shortcomings as well.

2. They form the basic reason for the social movement, anywhere in the world. Any other kind ofgovernments, like that of monarchism, has only brought out revolutions.

3. It could be observed that though Democracy is considered as the govenment of the people,it often fails to address the worries of the all the communities.
