Year 9 Week commencing 18th May 2020

Lesson Details

Due to the fact you have not been timetabled for your GCSE options yet, please use the below schedule as guidance for your

weekly studies. You will then need to refer to the subject table for the set of instructions that have been given to you by your

teacher. If you have any queries regarding this information, please see the contact information above.

Subject

**Subject Details**

GCSE CORE SUBJECTS English Reading: Spend an hour reading this week. You can continue with your reading of Oliver Twist, or with any book you have chosen

from home. Free audio books are available to download on Amazon Audible if you have run out of books to read - email your English teacher for some suggestions if you need to. GCSE Speaking assessment – Using the first draft of your speech from last week, create a PowerPoint or some form of visual presentation to go with your speech – this can be on paper if you don’t have access to a computer. You should be able to show the PowerPoint or visual aids alongside your speech and it should take about 4 to 5 minutes in total to present. Advice: Your PowerPoint or visual presentation can include graphs, images, short videos/interviews (no more than 30 seconds of video in total) etc.

It is easier to present if you have a visual aid, so whilst last week was focused on creating your speech, this week is about what you are going to show people who watch your speech. If you are using PowerPoint or cue cards, keep words on each slide / card to a minimum, but include graphs, statistics or anything you feel relevant. Don’t be tempted to copy your whole speech on to the slides / cue cards – nobody likes listening to someone read from the screen / page and you can only achieve a maximum of a pass grade in the final assessment if you read directly from the screen or page. By the end of this week you should have something that resembles a finished presentation, though it will still need editing and rehearsing. Look on BBC Bitesize for advice on speech writing - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zv7fqp3/articles/z4w96v4 If you haven’t already done so, please email the first draft of your speech to your class teacher. If you are being taught by Mrs Pindar, Mrs Martini or Miss Sewell, please send your work to Mr Chetwynd: [email protected].

Maths

Log in to Mathswatch and complete the activities that have been set by your class teacher which will appear on days you have a mathematics lesson this week. The tasks will be titled in the following way – GROUP, DATE OF LESSON, TITLE. Email your maths teacher via Mathswatch if you are struggling with any of the activities. Students should complete a Mathematics activity on MathsWatch for every day that they have a lesson. If you have any issues with your username or password then please email Mr Ireland at [email protected]

Science

To access your Science work for this week, please go to FROG > Science Subject Site > Year 9 > Home Learning > Week Seven. This contains an additional lesson for students who have opted to take Separate Science in Year 10. If you have any issues, please contact your Science teacher or Miss Griffiths ([email protected])
