From the Editor's deskWe are always aiming at getting better than what we were yesterday. In this regard, I'm

reminded of a beautiful speech by the global head of Google Inc. who also happens to be

from Namma Chennai. It goes on like this – A cockroach suddenly flew from somewhere

and sat on a lady at a restaurant which made her scream in panic. She started jumping

and flinging her arms to get rid of the pest. This reaction of the lady was quite contagious

and soon everyone in her group started to do the same too. While the lady finally

managed to get rid of the cockroach, it landed on another lady in the group. Now the

second lady started with her reflex action and amidst this melee, a waiter approached

the lady in a calm manner, grabbed the pest deftly with his fingers and threw it away. As

Mr. Pitchai watched the whole drama while sipping his cuppa, he wondered what the

reason for such histrionics was and finally the truth dawned on him. The whole episode

throws light on the fact that it is not the pest per se but the inability to handle the

disturbance caused by the pest that was responsible for the whole episode. Similarly it is

our inability to handle situations and our reactions to them that are responsible for any

chaos in our life. As the saying goes, Happiness is not the absence of problems; it is the

ability to deal with them......

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER…

Jan 2k19 A New Journey…

The future belongs to the curious. The ones, who are not afraid to try it, poke at it, question it and turn it

inside out. So when we are given an opportunity to explore and expose our talents never miss them.

'OPPORTUNITES ARE LIKE SUNRISES

IF YOU WAIT TOO LONG, YOU MISS THEM'

A Dream Journey…

Whenever I cross the notice board near the Dean's office I often use to check for any upcoming

conferences so that I can learn something new and get molded. This time, the name 'ANVESHAN 2k19' -

Student's Research Convention grabbed my attention. I got a glimpse of the poster and checked for the last thdate to register and it stated 7 Jan. 2019. With all excitement, I took a peek into my phone to check the

date which left me unanswered because that day was 7th Jan. This was my mind voice - “Dude! You are

always late.” With a small grief I moved out of that place. The next day when I crossed the same place my

eyes were pulled towards the same poster and to my surprise it stated 'Registration date has been extended thtill 9 Jan. With curiosity on one hand and dilemma on the other, I was left alone to participate or call off.

My mind buzzed about this the whole day. It was not until 11pm it struck me that my friend, Manjusha

and myself already had one project in hand. 'GREAT MINDS WORK IN SILENCE' but for us it was 'GREAT

MINDS WORK IN THE NIGHT.' After a small discussion that late she signaled saying 'Yes'. The very next

morning we rushed to our extremely talented Mentor, Dr. Hannah Ma'am. We explained her about the

competition and she said with a smile, “You both are always late for everything” (she tells us this because

we always bother her at the last minute). Then we met Dr. Arathi Ma'am, our encouraging HOD and

explained her about our project.

The next moment she gave us a 'thumbs up' sign. With all the positive YES vibes from both sides and with

the tag 'ALWAYS LATE', we enrolled our names on 9th Jan. With full josh and excitement we started thworking on our project. Our big day arrived – 11 Jan. 2k19 - to expose our talents. With all pride, we

entered the auditorium that was house full with young minds on work. We were a bit confused whether

to keep a step forward or a step backward. We made up our mind and stepped ahead and within few

hours our presentation started. We presented our project with full confidence to the panel of judges. We

were bombarded with so many questions but we were good enough to manage those. Honestly, we were a

bit scared of getting knocked off in the 1st level itself but we boosted ourselves after going through other

projects displayed. However, as hours passed by, our glucose levels dipped, eagerly waiting for that 'TIK-

TIK' moment.

Page 8: SRI RAMACHANDRA · obturator for closing a maxillary defect. A total of 54 participants attended. The 7 consecutive Rapid Review Revision Program was conducted from 4 to 6 Feb. 2019.

We were sitting at the edge of our seats as the judges on the stage opened up the card to announce the

results. We sharpened our ears to cheer the winners. When we heard the announcement - “E-24 has

qualified for the next level” our heart skipped a beat and everything seemed to be upside down. We

looked at each other and it took us few seconds to come out of the shock of joy and get into reality. Proudly

we stepped on to the stage and collected our prize. We were in the peak of happiness because we were one

among the top 5 finalists out of 86 participants and it was a dream come true for us. We were informed nd rdthat we will be representing our college in the next level on 22 & 23 Feb. at Vignan University [Guntur,

AP]. Now we had an additional responsibility to take the name our dental college to greater heights. We

had a mock presentation at the Vice-Chancellor's room and he encouraged us for the next level. We ndgroomed ourselves for the final day. The day arrived ... 22 Feb. We presented our project and got

appreciation from the judges. It was a South Zone Level competition. We had an opportunity to compete

with the South Zone universities. It was a tough competition because there were projects under various

fields like Agriculture, Law, Engineering & Technology, Health Sciences etc. We went around

enlightening ourselves with more information. 'SEE A STARY SKY' - This may sound clichéd but the

various projects there made us realize that we were just a tiny speck in the fields. The results were

announced but unfortunately we couldn't make it to the next level. We were sad on one side but on the

other side we cheered ourselves that we got an opportunity to expose our talent in such a huge forum.

So, when given an opportunity don't miss it; it may lead you to a destination that you are dreaming for. I

take this opportunity to thank our Dean, HOD Ma'am, and Guide for providing us such a big platform to

throw light on our ideas and last but not the least my friend without whom my dreams would have been

shattered.

'ALL THE TALENT IN THE WORLD WON'T TAKE YOU ANYWHERE WITHOUT YOUR TEAM-MATE'

I think this is best applicable for both of us and I hope the journey continues….
