An Inception and Planning Work-shop of the project was organized on April from 9-12 at the Confer-ence Center of the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.

Over 70 participants representing project partners, and civil society organizations, and academic insti-tutions from Lower Mekong River Basin countries participated in the workshop. Also, in attendance were the rice farmers from North-

east Thailand, those who have been working with various SRI projects. The Workshop provided an excel-lent opportunity to share the proj-ect objectives and action plans with participants of the workshop and also to receive their important feed-backs.

Eminent speakers included Prof. Norman T. Uphoff, Professor of Government and International Ag-riculture, Cornell University, USA;

Prof. Amir Kassam, Visiting Profes-sor, School of Agriculture, Policy and Development, University of Reading, United Kingdom; and Dr. Rosa Rolle on behalf of Mr. Hiroyu-ki Konuma, Assistant Director Gen-eral and Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific, Food and Agri-culture Organization (FAO).

As a part of the AIT-EC project, a new ACISAI Center has been launched coinciding with the Incep-tion and planning workshop of the project. The Center aims to develop multi-stakeholder network for co-generation of knowledge, capacity

building of the agricultural profes-sionals and institutions to strength-en Agricultural Research for Devel-opment (AR4D). The objective is to foster linkages between local, na-tional, and international institutions for inclusive dialogue, knowledge sharing and dissemination on con-vergent subject areas such as food security, climate change and global partnerships for achieving interna-tional public goods and finally de-velop committed young profession-als with new knowledge and skills required to realize the potential of Sustainable Agricultural Intenfica-tion (SAI) in Asia and beyond.

The ACISAI Center is located at the ground floor of the administra-tive building. Dr Prabhat Kumar and Dr. Abha Mishra are entrusted with the responsibility of the found-ing Directors of this Center, under a Board of Directors. Currently under the leadership of AIT President, the BOD has 6 members, whereas the Steering Committee is composed of 6 colleagues from two Schools of AIT namely School of Environment Resources and Development and School of Management.
