To present and promote science and spirituality in a balanced manner so as to ignite and steer the young minds in the pathway of science and technology. The department has highly qualified, motivated and research oriented faculty members. The department has a research project Funded by UGC-DAE-CSR, Kalpakkam. The department has sophisticated instruments facility such as cyclic voltammetry, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV/visible spectroscopy, spectrofluorometer, flame photometry, infra red CO2 analyzer, COD reactor, water quality analyzer, ultrasonic interferometer. The department organizes various seminars and workshops funded by different funding agencies.

About the Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry, SCSVMV University offers B.Sc., M.Sc.,

M.Phil. and Ph.D programs in Chemistry. To present and promote

science and spirituality in a balanced manner so as to ignite and steer the

young minds in the pathway of science and technology. The department

Workshop on Analytical Techniques: The department of chemistry has organized a “Workshop on

Analytical techniques on 25/2/2015, 26/02/2015 &

05/03/2015 for around 150 UG & PG students of

Pachaiyappa’s college for women and men & Kanchi Sri

Krishna College for Arts &Science to familiarize the

instrumentation techniques.

National Science Day 2015

The Department has organized a National Science Day Celebration on 27-02-15, Dr.T.K Sundara Murthy, Mission Director,ISRO

delivered the science day lecture. First year B.Sc Chemistry Students participated and won prizes in various competitions organized in

connection with national science day celebration. J.Padmapriya won the first Place in power point presentation, J.Shabana (First

Place), J.Padmapriya (Second Place) and S.Kalaivani (Third Place) Essay writing competition.

National Workshop on Analytical Techniques for Characterization (ATCC - 2015)

The Department of Chemistry, SCSVMV University organised a National

workshop on Analytical techniques for chemical characterization

(NWATCC2015) on 13/03/2015. A total of 105 participants from various

colleges/Universities in and around Kanchipuam were benefited from the

workshop. A plenary lecture was given by the Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Ashok

Kumar Mishra on the topic “Applications of fluorescence spectroscopy” and the

second lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. E. Manikandan, Senior Scientist,

SBMCH, Bharath University, Chennai on the topic “Over view of analytical

techniques for material characterization”. Various instrumentation techniques were demonstrated to the participants at Physics &

Chemistry laboratory in the afternoon session by splitting the participants into different groups.

Ozone day In connection with an “International Day for the Preservation

of the Ozone Layer” on 16/09/15,The Department organized a

one day Lecture to create awareness to the students on

15/09/15. Mr G..Mohan Doss, Deputy Agriculture Officer

(Retd.) was the resource person, Dr.K.Sivakumar Head, Dept.of

Chemistry gave the welcome address, C.Jeyalakshmi, Asst.Prof.

Dept.of Chemistry proposed the vote of thanks. Faculty members

from Chemistry Department and Students from Physics and

Chemistry department participated.

Special Lecture

The department organized a special lectures on Environmental awareness for the Ist year B.Sc. students on 21, 23, 24, 28, 29 &

30/09/2015 by Mr G..Mohan Doss, Deputy Agriculture Officer (Retd.).

Research Colloquium

Dr. K. Sivakumar, Associate Professor & Head; Delivered a lecture on “Necessity of Reproducibility in Scientific Research” in

the Research colloquium in the Department of Chemistry on 18-09-2015.

Mr.V. Santhanam, Assistant Professor; Delivered a lecture on “Synthesis of nanometal oxide structure in non aqueous media”
