India is a veritable treasure-house and is known for its rich traditional jewellery art forms - be it Jadau, Kundan-Meena, Temple, Bridal, Thewa or Tribal jewellery. And in a tting tribute to the eclectic jewellery crafts of the country, the IIJW helps designers promote the expertise of local arts by blending fresh and futuristic ideas on the runway, making it the most sought after haute design destination for fashionistas, jewellery acionados and national and international buyers. Every year, the IIJW sets trends for the coming season. Last year, 24 jewellery houses and designers displayed an array of dazzling collections that took the stage by storm. The innovative pieces for the arms and hands included Bazubands (armlets), Manchettes (long cuffs), Haath Phools (wrist and hand ornaments) and oversized bracelets. Rings too were the focus of attention for most designers who presented single, full and double-nger ring sets with large diamonds and coloured gemstones in breath-taking patterns. Tassels found a new interpretation in pendants, chandeliers as well as statement cuffs. Chand baalis (crescent- shaped earrings) and novel open-ended necklaces with oral engravings ruled the runway, while the shoulder ornaments got a complete makeover. Adding glamour to the magnicent event every year are scores of top models, celebrities and actors, including Sonam Kapoor, the GJEPC's brand ambassador. The IIJW over the years has showcased jewellery designers from across the globe namely Stephane Webster, Boucheron, Farah Khan Ali, Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas, P.C. Jewellers, Nirav Modi, Ganjam, Golechas, Gitanjali, P.N. Gadgil, Pallavi Foley, Moni Agarwal and the likes.
