Automatic Sprinkler Effectiveness

Most reliable form of fixed fire protection• Rarely fail to operate

• There never has been a multiple death in a fully operational sprinklered building

• 70% of all fires are controlled by activation of five or fewer heads

Less interruption of business and less water damage

Enhances life safety

How Automatic Sprinklers Enhance Life Safety

Water is discharged directly on the fire The fire is usually controlled while it is in the

incipient (growth) stage Products of combustion are limited Sprinklers help prevent fire spread Occupants feel safer in a sprinklered building

thus reducing the likelihood of panic

SPRINKLER SYSTEMS Controlling Water

Using two sprinkler wedges• Insert two wooden wedges, one from each side,

between the discharge orifice and the deflector – Use the heel of hand to drive wedge in place

A commercial stop may also be used Notify the owner so that authorized and

trained person can restore the system
