SPRING…the most wonderful time of the year! It’s that time of year….our maintenance department is gearing up to begin ground’s cleaning

including leaf removal, evaluating the outside of each unit and tree limb assessment and removal. These tasks are completed each year to prepare for our HUD REAC inspections that are required for funding. We are encouraging each household to dust off your winter blues and knock the cobwebs out of your organizational skills. With the help of our residents we

look forward to having a beautiful and well-maintained property.

Do you have large items that you would like to get rid of to make space for new or a clutter-free area? We can help! GHA offers a haul-off service with a nominal charge of $10.00 to

take away things such as furniture, old mattresses and updated appliances. If you would like to take advantage of this service just give us a ring and we will schedule a pick up.

Along with warmer weather, it is imperative that each household make sure their grassy areas are clean of debris and trash. Please also remember that grilling, or any kind, is not

permitted on your porch or near any building as the heat will destroy the siding.

Any vegetable or flower garden you might like is encouraged but please remember it must be enclosed and self-maintained.

Did you know that Guthrie Housing Authority is a polling place for Logan County? Are you new to our area? Have you registered to vote? With a government elected by its citizens and that effects every aspect of our lives from schools to health care to homeland security, voting is an important right in our society. By voting, you are making your voice heard and registering your opinion on how you think the government should operate. Guthrie citizens can verify their precinct, confirm voter registration and get election night reporting by visiting www.logancountyok.com/Election_Board.php You can call Executive Secretary Sheleen Winscott at (405) 282-1900, find her at 224 E Vilas here in Guthrie, or send her a text at [email protected] to register to vote or ask questions.

Please do not use a charcoal, gas, or an electric grill on your porch or near any building. The heat will

destroy the siding. If this happens, you will be charged for any damages. Grilling can be done out in the yard if the location is not under a Governor

or County issued “burn ban”. Do not leave a burning grill unattended.

After the grill has cooled, move it back to your porch or storage area. Do not leave grills out under the

trees or on grassy areas.

Due to liability and insurance issues, individual “recreational water activities” such as slip ‘n’ slides, sprinklers, swimming pools of any type and/or size

along with outdoor playground equipment including but not limited to trampolines, swing sets, slides,

etc. ARE NOT ALLOWED on Guthrie Housing Authority property—AT ANY TIME!!

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULED

Beginning Monday, May 13th, and continuing through Friday May 31st, 2019, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., GHA Maintenance Staff will be coming into your unit to change the filters on your central air units, to test and change batteries in smoke alarms, and to perform preventative maintenance. All units will be affected during this time. This is a part of our routine maintenance and you are not required to be in the unit. If you would prefer to be present during your maintenance, please call our office prior to May 6th to schedule an appointment day.

Changes on the way!! Guthrie Housing Authority is making a change to the landscaping that happens on our property. Additional landscaping has been planned for additional beautification of the property. 5 large

informational signs will be placed at each of the entrances to better assist visitors and emergency personnel locate individuals more efficiently. Please be patient while we transition these responsibilities

to our staff and find a schedule that works the best for all of the residents and our employees.

Mark your calendar for Friday and Saturday April 5-6 as the annual citywide clean-up is just around the corner. This annual event is held for the residents of Guthrie. The convenience center at 1506 N. Academy Road will have commercial dumpsters available on these two days for bulk waste. There will also be additional containers for collection of special waste items such as tires, industrial metal and oil at a separate location inside the Convenience Center. These sites will be manned to ensure that the material discarded is properly placed into the containers for disposal. Special waste will be accepted on April 6th only.

The city will accept old tires only on April 6th, providing the following conditions are met: all tires collected will be from residents of the City of Guthrie only, no tires will be accepted from commercial businesses, and no exempt tires will be accepted. Tires will be accepted only in the designated secure area; the number of car and semi-truck tires collected will be recorded separately and reported to the DEQ once the clean-up event is complete. Finally, tires with rims will not be accepted.

Residents dropping materials off should have proof of residency with them such as a Guthrie water bill. The center is open 9:45-4:45 on Friday and 8:00-4:45 on Saturday. By bringing a copy of your water bill with a photo I.D., the fees are waived for April 5-6. Fees are normally $10 per cubic yard for city residents with a current Guthrie Water Bill and $12.50 per cubic yard for all others. The price for a full size pickup filled to bed level is about $24 for Guthrie residents and about $30 for non-residents. The city will not accept appliances with freon compressors, batteries, liquids or any other hazardous material.
