6:00pm, City Council Chambers.

With spring in the air and the summer right behind it, I am looking forward to completing my first full year on Catalina Island and par‐taking in all four of the seasons Catalina has to offer. The rain was very welcome but I can’t wait for those sunny “Chamber of Com‐merce” days on the island! My goal in taking the position of the Community Services Director was to provide the residents of Avalon, along with the visitors, more recreational opportunities on the island. I think we have come a long way with the completion of the Joe Machado Syn‐thetic Turf Project, the upgrades to Knabe Park (formerly known as Mole Park) and the addition of the Avalon Fitness Trail at both Kid’s Park and JMF. As the Community Services Department, we still have other plans in the way of enhancements to those facilities along with the rest of the facilities owned and/or operated by the City of Avalon. Our Spring/Summer Brochure will guide you to other recreational outlets for both children and adults. Plans are to continue to gath‐er feedback from the community in the way of programs and facili‐ty enhancements and work with our very supportive City Council to bring those to fruition. For upcoming new programs for this spring and summer be on the lookout as follows:

Friday Night Lights at Joe Machado Field (Open field play)

Tumbling and Cheerleading with Coach Katelyn

High School and Adult Catalina Outrigger Canoe Club (COCC)

Expansion of the Teen Club Programming

Expansion of the “Prime Timers” (Senior) Programming

Kid’s Day In The Bay Event – June 3rd

New Activities Planned for our Annual July 4th Celebration

Youth Beach Volleyball & Basketball 3 on 3 Program

Youth Swim Team Program

First Sundays in the Park w/ Sean Brannock And staff is still “brainstorming” ideas to go along with the “oldies but goodies” like Beach Bingo, the Movie Nights by CHOICES and the weekly Fishing Derby over the course of the summer. We continue to be interested in things that may appeal to you so please let us know what you think? I can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at (310)510-0220 ext. 230. Wishing you and your family good health, Dan Huncke
