Baseball and SoftballNew Hope offers evening ball programs for youth ages 4 to grade 8. Partici-pants need to bring a glove.Registration: Registrations will be taken through May 24, or until teams fill. Team size is limited. In an effort to evenly distribute teams, coach requests cannot be guaranteed.Schedules: Participants will be contacted after June 3 with the time and loca-tion of first practice. A season schedule will be distributed the first night.Coaches: Volunteer coaches are needed for each team. We are looking for adults who are interested in teaching fundamentals of the game in a fun, positive atmosphere. Those who are selected to coach will receive a refund of their child’s registration fee.Team Shirts: Registration fee includes a team shirt. Shirts will be distributed the first night.

Children’s Tennis LessonsOur summer tennis lesson series will teach children the basic skills of ten-nis, help them stay physically fit, and familiarize them with a great game to play with old and new friends! Each session will consist of eight, one-hour lessons. Just bring a racquet and be ready to learn and have lots of fun! Balls are provided. Class limit is 12. As part of the Duk Duk Daze cele-bration, the Cooper High School ten-nis program will again host a tennis tournament during the festival from July 19-21. Age categories for Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles will include:• Age 12 and under (youth)• Age 14 and under (youth)• Age 16 and under (youth)• Age 18 and under (youth)• Age 19-44 (adults)• Age 45-59 (adults)• Age 60 and over (adults)

Play is best two out of three sets. All players are guaranteed two matches. Participants must bring a new can of tennis balls to check-in. Tournament is USTA-sanctioned. Junior players will play in the USTA Level 7 tournament (must be a USTA member). Draw will be posted July 17 at 5 p.m. at Cooper High School. Register by July 12.

Rockin’ Rackets TennisThis is a great way to introduce your 4-5 year old child to the great lifetime game of tennis. Teen Tennis LeagueThis league is designed for boys and girls ages 12-18. The players must have previous tennis experience and be able to sustain a rally with forehand and backhand, return serves and keep score. Matches will be played against players of similar ability and may be played in Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Golden Valley, New Hope and Plymouth. Players are responsible for their own transportation. Fee in-cludes league membership and t-shirt. Practice will begin on Monday, June 10. A schedule will be handed out at the first practice. Martial Arts Summer CampYouth ages 7-12 come explore the world of martial arts in this two day camp. Martial arts involves lots of eye-hand-foot coordination and teamwork. We’ll be doing activities in art, music, games, along with Soo Bahk Do sessions to enhance those skills. Bring your own peanut free snack and water bottle each day. Fee includes uniform. Participants who register for both sessions may bring a lunch and supervision will be provided. Register by July 23. Little Tigers Martial ArtsChildren ages 3-5 will learn basic self de-fense and martial arts skills while devel-oping coordination and flexibility. Fencing CampChildren ages 6-12 will learn real fencing skills while having fun in our special weeklong fencing camp! This program, provided by MN Sword Play, will introduce children to the funda-mentals of fencing. With an emphasis on skill building, concentration, self discipline and fun, the camp is de-signed to enhance motor skill, social and perceptual growth by teaching safe, age appropriate foil fencing skills to each child. Fly Fishing During this school release day, youth will learn the art of fly casting in this introductory course! Be prepared to possibly get wet and to be outside for the majority of the time. Participants will learn about equipment, proper casting techniques, and fly selection. Our instructors will work with you on land, teaching basic skills. Then spend the rest of the time fly fishing for bass and sun fish on Medicine Lake. Meet at the Visitor Cen-ter and then we’ll walk to our fishing spots. Outdoor Skills And Thrills Gain some skills and have a range of thrills! Youth ages 10-14 register for one or all six! Be prepared to be outside for most of the program time. Stand Up Paddle Boarding and Slacklining Try out two new up and coming sports in Minnesota that are all about balance. Stand Up Paddle boarding is a cross between surfing and paddling. Participants will head out on the water to explore our parks and learn paddling basics. Slacklining is taking off across college campuses and can be done in your own backyard. Assist each other as you master your bal-ance while crossing a two-inch strap strung between two trees. Instructors will teach slacklining basics and pro-vide challenges to improve your skills. Geocaching for S’mores The s’more supplies have gone miss-ing! The only way to ensure happy campers is to use GPS (Global Position-ing System) units to find the supplies hidden in the woods. Tennis LeaguesThe cities of Brooklyn Center, Crystal, Golden Valley, New Hope, and Rob-binsdale are offering adult tennis leagues this summer. There will be two divisions of play available begin-ning the week of June 10. Participants may choose to play in either the In-termediate or Advanced Division. The program will consist of an 8-10 match schedule. Leagues may play matches in any one of the participating cities depending on the community that is administering your particular league. At the beginning of the season each player will receive a match schedule, which states when and where you will play. Match dates and times may be rescheduled by calling your opponent to make alternate arrangements, and then booking a court with the city. A Forfeit/No Show Policy requires play-ers to contact their opponent if they do not plan to play at the assigned time. Participants with two no-shows during the season may be removed from the league with no refund. Leagues may be combined if there is inadequate registration. American Swedish Institute – April 17The past comes to life as we explore the contents of a Swedish Immi-grant Trunk. A Swedish Institute Instructor will discuss historic items that typical Swedish immigrants would have brought with them on their journey to the New World. The trunk is full of vintage items which will allow us to walk in the shoes of Swedish immigrants with a program that is part show and tell, part Antiques Road show, and part walk down memory lane. Who Gets Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate? – May 15Personal belongings often have special meaning for individuals and family members. Planning to pass on such items – treasured wedding photos, Grandpa’s fishing tackle box, or a well-used yellow pie plate – can be challenging, and may lead to family conflict. This presentation provides practical information about the inheritance and transfer of non-titled personal property, including: bringing up inheritance issues for discussion; preparing a legally ap-propriate list of non-titled property; deciding what fair means; asking others what objects they would like and why; identifying transfer goals; and selecting distribution and transfer methods that fit goals. As the weather warms up, flowers begin to bloom and people are playing outdoors a bit more, don’t forget to bring your camera as you may come across the perfect image for the city’s “In Focus” photography contest. The contest is meant to inspire civic pride, motivate amateur and professional shutterbugs alike and encourage those who live and work in New Hope to explore their city. Entries will be judged on subject matter, composition, clarity, lighting, depth of field, drama/artistry, degree of difficulty, technical excellence, and overall impact. Community GardenThe Hope Grows community garden will take seed this growing season at Emergency Foodshelf Network, located at 54th and Zealand avenues. Hope Grows is a volunteer-run com-mittee of citizens and organizations dedicated to growing food and com-munity in New Hope. The garden will have approximately 20 stalls available for rent for the season. The garden will also have plots dedi-cated as communal spaces which will be nurtured by volunteers. Food raised at the communal garden space will be donated to the foodshelf. Volunteer-ing to tend the communal spaces will make a perfect community service project for youth groups, churches, organizations and businesses. Scenic St. Croix Riverboat Tour – September 17Enjoy a private, authentic paddle-wheel boat tour along the beautiful St. Croix River. Our boat pilot and tour guide will point out the unique rock formations that were left behind as the glaciers retreated thousands of years ago. Among the most outstand-ing formations is the huge stone cross for which the St. Croix River was named. Other sites that can be seen from the boats include; the world’s largest glacial kettles or “pot holes” Lion’s head, Turk’s Head and the high-light of the boat tour, the Old Man of the Dalles--the most outstanding natural rock face you’ll ever see! Honsey Swimming Pool boasts a fifty meter, eight lane outdoor pool with small slide, ADA ramp, stair entry, lap lanes, one- and three-meter diving boards, and 13-foot drop slide. A separate kiddie pool features a mushroom fountain, playhouse structure with fountains, swing and slide. Concessions are available. Baskets are available for secure storage of valuables while you enjoy the pool. The pool is heated to a comfortable 82 degrees.

Little OnesThis class is specially designed for chil-dren ages 3 to 4. Children must be potty trained to participate in Little Ones. Stu-dents will learn basic water skills, such as blowing bubbles, submerging their faces, paddling and floating, and be-come familiar with safe water practices.Level 1 - Introduction to Water SkillsMust be 5 years or older by the first day of class. Four year olds who have passed Little Ones may register for Level 1 with Instructor approval. The objective is to help students feel com-fortable in the water and enjoy the water safely. Students explore simulta-neous and alternating arm and leg ac-tion on the front and back. Elementary aquatic skills are taught.Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic SkillsPassed level 1 or equivalent. Students learn to float without support and re-cover to a vertical position. Students learn fundamentals of treading water, front and back glides and floats, and changing direction of travel while swimming on front or back.Level 3 - Stroke DevelopmentPassed level 2 or equivalent. The objec-tive is to coordinate the front and back crawl and elementary backstroke. Stu-dents are introduced to the flutter, scis-sor, dolphin and breaststroke kicks, the fundamentals of treading water, and diving from the side of the pool.

Level 4 - Stroke ImprovementPassed level 3 or equivalent. Students will continue to build on the front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, butterfly, and flutter and dolphin kicks on back. Swimming under water and survival swimming will also be taught. Level 5 - Stroke RefinementPassed level 4 or equivalent. Students will refine their skills in front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. Flip turns on the front and back are introduced, as well as tuck and pike surface dives.Level 6 – Fitness SwimmerStudents learn basic techniques of fitness swimming, including using a pace clock, pull buoy, fins and paddles. Students will also learn various training techniques and how to set up their own personal fitness program. Golf CourseYour New Hope Village Golf Course is a beautiful nine-hole course with a par of 27. The course lies on 23 acres of gently rolling terrain. With large mature trees, water hazards and sand traps throughout the course, players of all skill levels will be challenged. These features make New Hope Vil-lage Golf Course a great place for people of all ages and all skill levels to enjoy the game of golf. Whether you are looking for a park to hold a family reunion or want to have an employee outing, we have picnic areas which would be perfect for your event. Indoor Facilities Rental Community Gyms The New Hope Community Gyms, 8230 47th Ave N (on the north side of Cooper High School), has two full-size basketball courts available for recre-ational and athletic activities. Other amenities include a batting cage, concessions area, storage rooms and restrooms. The facility is available dur-ing non-school hours for New Hope Parks and Recreation programs and for rent to the public. A resident group is a group in which at least 60 percent of the users consists of New Hope resi-dents. A nonresident group, which includes fewer than 60 percent New Hope residents, pays a higher fee.

The sk8 pad is a tier one park suitable for skateboarders of all skill levels, including beginners. The park features an assortment of modular stainless steel ramps, grind rails, ledges and boxes on a 6,000 square foot concrete pad just west of New Hope City Hall, 4401 Xylon Ave. N. The skate park is free and open during park hours.

Disc Golf CourseNew Hope has a disc golf course located at Sunnyside Park, 47th and Quebec avenues. The course is free to the public and open during posted park hours. Any league play must be sanctioned by the Parks and Recreation De-partment. If you are interested in league play please contact us as 763-531-5151.

Off-Leash Dog ParksWant to give your canine buddy a chance to socialize with other dogs and run in a large, safe, enclosed area? New Hope has seasonal dog parks in three city parks for just that purpose.New Hope has off-leash dog areas in Civic Center Park (44th and Xylon), Lions Park (38th and Oregon), and Liberty Park (60th and Gettysburg). The off-leash areas are located in the hockey enclosures at each park.The dog parks are free and may be used during daylight hours only. Pet owners are responsible for controlling and picking up after their dogs. Dogs must remain on-leash until they enter the dog park enclosure. Read all of the rules posted at the dog park entrance. Pickleball CourtsPickleball courts have been outlined on the tennis courts at Hidden Val-ley Park, 32nd and Boone avenues, and Civic Center Park, 44th and Xylon avenues. n Sorry, exceptions for ages cannot be made. All youth programs are designed to be age-appropriate. Participant must be of the appropri-ate age/grade by the start of the class (unless otherwise specified). Birth certificate may be requested and, if so, must be provided.

n Confirmations are NOT sent. If you do not hear from us, the partici-pant should attend on the first date listed. In the case of baseball and softball, a coach will call before the first practice with specifics.

n A $30 fee will be charged to cover administrative costs for checks re-turned to the city.

n Waiting Lists: Waiting lists are formed when classes are filled. If instructor or space is available, ad-ditional classes may be formed.

Funds AvailableFunds are available for New Hope families who need assistance with registration fees in order for their child or teen to participate in pro-grams sponsored by the New Hope Parks and Recreation Department.
