Spring Fling April 2—3, 2016
This year, we are having the event on the first Saturday and Sunday in April. We will once again be
gathering at The Center located at 12700 Southwest Hwy, Palos Park, IL 60464. We will be holding
classes in the log cabins nestled at the edge of the woods. Due to The Center’s rules, no alcohol is
permitted.
The registration fee of $50.00 also includes meals—Saturday dinner, as well as Sunday breakfast and
lunch. The menu will be included with your class confirmation letter.

Please read each of the class descriptions carefully noting the days, times and weaving levels when
making your selections. All weavers are expected to bring their own basic supplies. If you have any
questions, please contact Michelle Burns at (708) 301-5530 or [email protected].
Your registration form must be received by January 1, 2016 so class assignments can be made
quickly. Classes will be assigned once the registration forms are received. Classes fill quickly, so don’t
delay. All registrations received after January 1st will be placed in classes where space is available.
Class assignments will be sent and teachers notified as soon as possible after the forms have been
received and classes assigned.
Raffle Prize Donations This year we will be doing a bag raffle and need your help. If you have any
donations for us or information on where to get basket-related prizes, please
contact Jane Dwyer (708) 732-0143 or [email protected]. Bring your
donations with you on the day of the event.

The hotel is just north of I 80 on LaGrange Rd.
We have reserved a block of rooms with double queen beds for our group at a rate of $125 plus tax. This
is a non-smoking hotel. Reserve your room by March 12, 2016.
Directions to The Center From the North: Take I—294 South to I—55 North to Chicago. Exit La Grange Rd South to 131st Street.
Turn left (east) to Southwest Hwy. Turn left and The Center will be on the left. Parking on the lower
level. Please use the upper level for handicapped parking and drop offs only.
From the South: Take I—55 North to I—80 East or I—57 North to I—80 West. Exit La Grange Rd. Turn North to 131st
Street. Turn right (east) to Southwest Hwy. Turn left and The Center will be on the left. Parking on the

Vendors East Troy Basketry (www.easttroybasketry.com) will be returning to Spring Fling. If you would like
to preorder anything, contact them directly.
There is still space available for additional vendors. The fee is $37 and also includes meals with us but
only one meal when The Center serves. Please contact Michelle Burns ([email protected]) if
you have any questions or are interested in being a vendor at this event.
Class Information
Felted Vessel Cynthia Boudreau All Levels
Make a unique felted vessel as an Art piece or as a useful Art Utili-tarian Vessel for a plant or any use in your home. You will dry felt on a foam form and then wet felt and shape your piece over a glass vase. Size can vary from 10 inches to 15 inches or so in height, and about 6 inches in width at the widest point. Instructor will provide foam form, all felting needles, all wool and novelty fiber embellishment pieces, clamps, beads for finishing, glass vases for your choosing, or you may bring one of your own if you would like. Those glass vases from florist deliveries are per-fect! You will leave with a very personalized felted container. Dimensions: 6” Diameter x 10—15” H $95.00

Oma’s Knitting Basket Sharon Klusmann Intermediate Level
Nestle yarn balls or anything you would like to keep protected in this swing handle beauty. Begin with a round wooden base and learn 4-Rod Wale, 2-2 Twill, Arrow Randing and handle embellishment. Lids with random space dyed knob ($15) and liners are available for purchase. Specify color choice: Autumn Space Dyed or Pastel Space Dyed. Also specify if you would like to order a lid.

Everly Debbie Mroczenski Intermediate Level
This basket starts on an oval base with an attached D-handle. The small slot eliminates the need for twining. The Japanese weave highlights the double-spoked dyed chair cane. The spokes continue to the top and are woven into the dynamic 3-stroke braid pattern. No adding spokes, scarfing or lashing, just a beautiful rim. A butterfly top knot completes this charming basket. Just the right size for a bottle of wine and a loaf of French bread.

Needle Felted Beret Cynthia
Brodreau All Levels
Learn how to needle felt to completely change a plain beret or a garment of your choosing into a beautiful Art Wear piece. In this class you can work on a black beret to make it your very own creation, or you could bring a wool, rayon, or linen jacket or shirt to needle felt your own unique design onto. Instructor will provide foam blocks, needle felting tools, merino wool, embellishment fibers and beads, sewing thread and needles. All you need to bring is your own creativity! You will leave with a new beautiful piece to wear. Beret $65.00 Own garment $55.00
Branching Out Pam Talsky All Levels
Make your own, one of a kind pine needle work of art! Many cabochon stones/colors to pick from for the start. Students will learn to coil with waxed linen, keeping the stitches neat and defined. Learn wrapping, adding beads, branching out and adding a fagot lace stitch to open areas. Learn to transition and change colors of waxed linen. Several samples will be on hand to inspire you! FUN! No two will look the same. Sizes/shapes will vary. Materials to Bring: Sewing scissors and an Ott Light may be helpful Dimensions: 8” Diameter x 4” H (varies) $90.00

Analyse Debbie Mroczenski All Levels
This bowl starts on an round wood base over a rental mold. Alternating colors of spokes will set the stage for the alternating pattern on the sides of the bowl. Weaving with double weavers adds even more visual interest. Finish this bowl with a blanket stitch. Dimensions: ” Diameter 12” x 6 3/4” H $50.00
Smoky Valley Sharon Klusmann Intermediate Level
This striking black, natural and smoked reed basket begins with a D handle inserted into an oval wooden base. Lots of techniques to learn including start/stop weaving, triple twining in pairs, a 3 piece braid, descending rows and a decorative handle. It is embellished with a pre-made white cord flower with button center. Dimensions: W: 7" L: 8" H: 10" (w/handle) $57.00
Lidded Fairy Pam Talsky All Levels
This sweet little lidded basket is just Fairy size! Students will learn a knotted start, chain and spiral wheat stitches and how to fit a lid! Add a pine cone charm to finish the top or select from a variety of knobs, buttons, and charms to make your Fairy basket personalized. Teachers’ Biographies
Cynthia Boudreau
Cynthia Boudreau is a fiber enthusiast who particularly loves creating beautiful fabric using the shibori
dying and nuno felting techniques. Her work includes one of a kind clothing sewn from her own
designs along with two and three dimensional art pieces created by felting. Her designs are often
inspired by nature and travel. She holds degrees from Northern Illinois University, the University of
Wisconsin and Loyola University. Her work has been shown in several Midwest area galleries and in
Art Wear Fashion Shows.
Sharon Klusmann
Sharon Klusmann has been weaving, designing and teaching basketry for 30 years. Her website:
www.SharonKlusmann.com has seven pages of her original designs. She not only teaches basketry from
her home studio in Tallmadge, OH, but at national conventions and guilds throughout the country. She
has had three of her designs featured in Create and Decorate Magazine and is the author of “Business
in a Basket” to help others who love basket weaving turn their passion into a successful teaching
business.
Debbie Mroczenski
Debbie started weaving in 1992 at a PTO meeting. She has shared her skills with, family, friends, and
taught 4-H. She has taught at East Troy Basketry in Wisconsin, Canada, Jabez, Michigan, Minnesota,
and Missouri. In 2014, she won first place in the professional/teacher category at the Michigan
convention. Debbie enjoys all types of weaving. She finds it a wonderful way to unwind and relax. She
is looking forward to meeting you at Spring Fling and sharing her designs with all of you.
Pam Talsky
It started with a pine needle basket in June of 1994. Pam Talsky has since traveled to Thailand with the
Royalwood tour and has made 15 trips to Alaska since 1998, to learn Pine Needle Basketry from Jeannie
McFarland and Native Haida weaving with Delores Churchill. She also goes to harvest and prepare her
own western red and Alaskan yellow cedar barks and Sitka spruce root.
She loves everything about weaving, from the gathering and preparation of materials to creating
beautiful, mostly functional vessels. The connection of weaving across the cultures continues to amaze
and inspire her. Sharing her knowledge and continuing to learn from other weavers brings her great joy.
Pam has earned numerous awards, among them; the AMB Best Coiled for General Membership in 2003.
In 2004 she won the Teachers awards for both Coiled and Naturals, for Coiled in 2005, for both Coiled
and Art Piece in 2006, she won the AMB best coiled Teacher in 2009, the AMB Coveted Viewer’s
Choice Award in 2010, TBWA 2015, 2 NCBA awards in 2015, AMB Professional in Pine Needles and
Miscellaneous Materials in 2015.
