Code of Love and Honor.I am Miami.

I believe that a liberal education is grounded in qualities of character and intellect.

I stand for honesty, integrity, and the importance of moral conduct.

I respect the dignity, rights, and property of others and their right to hold and express disparate beliefs.

I defend the freedom of inquiry that is the heart of learning.

I exercise good judgment and believe in personal responsibility.

I welcome a diversity of people, ideas, and experiences.

I embrace the spirit, academic rigor, opportunities, and challenges of a Miami Experience, preparing me to make the world a better place.

I demonstrate Love and Honor by supporting and caring for my fellow Miamians.

And because I Am Miami, I act through my words and deeds in ways that reflect these values and beliefs.

With a deep sense of accomplishment and gratitude, I will Love, Honor, and make proud those who help me earn the joy and privilege of saying,

“To think that in such a place, I led such a life.”

Miami’s Code of Love and Honor articulates our shared values and expectations as a university community. The phrase comes from our fight song chorus, “Love and Honor to Miami.”

Now that you’ve been accepted to Miami University, here’s a short list of things to do.

While you’re deciding:

q Attend a Transfer Preview Day or Transfer Thursday. For more information, see Page 3 of this packet.

q If you submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for this academic year at your current college, you should add Miami’s federal school code (003077) to the School Selection section of your FAFSA at fafsa.gov. If you have not submitted a FAFSA, complete one online at fafsa.gov using Miami’s federal school code (003077).

q If you complete any additional courses after your initial transfer credit evaluation, we encourage you to use Transferology.com to determine course equivalencies for these courses. If your courses are not available on Transferology, please connect with a member of our Transfer Credit Evaluation office by completing the request form at MiamiOH.edu/admission/transfer.

q Confirm your intent to enroll at Miami and submit your deposit ($425 if you’re living in university housing; $95 if you’re living in non-university housing or commuting) by January 6, 2020, by going to MiamiOH.edu/accepted and clicking on the Confirm Your Enrollment link or submitting the Confirm Your Enrollment form included in this packet. After you confirm, you’ll receive an email with information on how to access your Miami student email account and will also have access to request university housing.

q Connect with other accepted transfer students by visiting our Facebook page, facebook.com/groups/MiamiOHTransfer1920.

After you confirm your enrollment:

q All Miami students must submit evidence of the required vaccinations before beginning classes. In addition to the required vaccines, Miami recommends vaccinations for Meningococcal B, Hepatitis A, and Influenze (annual). You will receive detailed instructions for submitting this information on your myMiami admission checklist. To review the required vaccinations refer to the Student Health Services website at MiamiOH.edu/health or contact Student Health Services at [email protected] or 513-529-3000.

q As soon as you complete your current term of enrollment at your most recent institution, request that your official final college transcript with your current term grades be sent to: Miami University, Office of International & Transfer Admission (OITA), 301 S. Campus Ave., Oxford, OH 45056. Office of International & Transfer Admission must receive transcripts by January 13, 2020.

q Attend a Transfer One-Day Orientation or January Orientation to meet with an academic advisor to register for classes. See Page 12 of this packet for details.

q Check your Miami email for your tuition and fees bill. It will be sent electronically to this email address if you register for classes before our billing date. Transfer students who register after our billing dates (see MiamiOH.edu/billing) will also receive an email, and payment is due by the first day of classes.

q If you’re living in university housing, you must complete the Residence Hall and Meal Plan Contract. Housing is not required for students 21 years of age or older or for students who have completed at least two years full time at another institution. If you’re living in non-university housing, please visit MiamiOH.edu/OffCampus for more information and help finding housing off campus.

Get excited for your move to Miami! Come to one of our on-campus Transfer Preview Day events designed to help with your decision-making process. Go to MiamiOH.edu/transfer for event dates and to register.

If you attend a Transfer Preview Day, you will go on a campus tour, enjoy a complimentary lunch in a dining hall, and learn about resources important to the transfer process.

If you are unable to attend a Transfer Preview Day, we encourage you to schedule an appointment to meet with a member of our transfer team during Transfer Thursdays. Email [email protected] for more information. Transfer Preview Days are visit opportunities and are separate from the orientation session that all confirmed transfer students are required to attend.

Miami is a residential school, with almost all of our students living in university housing or in Oxford’s square mile. It’s a place custom-made to call home for your unforgettable Miami years. Small enough to see friendly faces everywhere you turn, and big enough to feel like you’re a world away. You’ll find a sense of community here that’s hard to describe until you live it.

Find your fit in university housing. When you live in university housing, it’s not just about the building, it’s really about your community inside the building. Studies show that students who live in university housing perform better academically and participate more fully in campus life.

Because of these benefits, eligible full-time transfer students live in university housing unless:

• They live with their parent(s), legal guardian, spouse, or dependent children.

• They are over 21 years of age prior to the start of classes.

• They have matriculated full time for at least two years at another institution of higher education.

While housing is not guaranteed for students 21 years of age or older or for students who have completed at least two years full time at another institution post-high school, we typically have space to house everyone who is interested in living in university housing.

Whether you live in university housing or not, you can dig into the meals at Miami’s award-winning dining services. Yes, the food is really that good! Find out more at MiamiOH.edu/mealplans.

THE CLASSIC COLLEGIATE EXPERIENCE IN THE PERFECT COLLEGE TOWN

Miami Traditions

THE UPHAM ARCHMany Miami couples attest that if you stand underneath the Upham Hall arch’s light at midnight and kiss your sweetheart, you’re destined to marry each other.

THE SUNDIALLegend has it that if you rub the heads of the turtles holding up the Sundial’s base, you’ll enjoy good luck on upcoming tests.

THE MIAMI SEALStudents avoid stepping on the Miami University Seal in the center of campus, believing it keeps them from failing their next exam.

Since our founding in 1809, Miami students have created many traditions they have passed down to the generations that follow. Here are a few of our more famous ones.

Transfer credit evaluationMiami offers transfer students the opportunity to see how credits will transfer from their previous institution(s) to Miami. Your transfer credit evaluation will be posted to your Applicant Status Page one week after admission.

If you complete any additional courses after your initial transfer credit evaluation, we encourage you to use Transferology.com to determine course equivalencies for these courses. If your courses are not available on Transferology, please connect with a member of our Transfer Credit Evaluation office by completing the request form at MiamiOH.edu/transfer. You can also visit this website to chat live with a transfer admission representative.

Transfer Student OrientationThe Office of Orientation and Transition Programs offers two orientation options for transfer students: Transfer One-Day Orientations and January Orientation. Attending orientation will help you become more confident, comfortable, connected, and curious as a Miami student. You will learn about campus resources and involvement opportunities, discover Miami’s history and traditions, meet other new transfer students, connect with faculty and staff members, and register for classes. Not all academic divisions will be available at every Transfer One-Day Orientation, so you’ll want to make sure you register for a day when your division is present.

If you cannot attend a Transfer One-Day Orientation, you are required to attend January Orientation.

To learn more about orientation or to register to attend, please visit MiamiOH.edu/orientation.

Special opportunities for transfer students

1. Why is a final transcript required if I’ve already been accepted?Miami’s offer of acceptance is based upon review of all prior university coursework and if applicable, your high school transcript, including grades from coursework in which you may be currently enrolled. Also, your final transcript must demonstrate your consistent effort in maintaining your grade point average (GPA). It is understood that you must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00 in all college coursework. If your final transcript shows that you did not meet this expectation, if you are suspended, dismissed, or placed on probation by your school, or if you are convicted of a criminal offense other than a minor traffic incident or such charges are pending against you prior to your attendance, Miami University reserves the right to withdraw the offer of admission. Your transcript must be received in the Office of International & Transfer Admission by January 13, 2020 for students starting in the spring.

2. What resources and opportunities are available for students who are military-affiliated?In partnership with the Student Veterans Association, Miami provides a network of support to military-affiliated students. We work to meet the needs of student veterans and prospective student veterans; cultivate student veterans’ concerns through scheduled meetings, advocacy, social opportunities, and recreational activities; foster esprit de corps among student veterans; promote an understanding of student veterans’ issues; and provide a resource for student veterans to ease the transition into student life. Students are also able to meet with members of our Student Success Center staff to help with the transition to Miami. Visit MiamiOH.edu/transfer/veterans for more information.

3. What transportation services are available?Students can utilize the Butler County Regional Transit Authority bus service, which runs regular routes on campus and in Oxford. It also offers limited shuttle service to major airports for Thanksgiving break, winter break, and spring break. You can also contact the Airport Shuttle Service at 513-896-6605 for transportation to the Cincinnati or Dayton airport. For more information on transportation services, please visit MiamiOH.edu/parking/transportation.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID

New transfer students admitted for either the fall or spring semester will be considered for merit and need-based scholarship opportunities. Eligibility is determined at the time of admission. A student must be eligible to receive federal aid and have submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov to be considered for need-based scholarships.

Students not meeting the transfer application deadline of December 1 for spring enrollment will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Exact scholarship amounts within each range will be determined by a holistic review of the application for admission. Students attending a regional campus or who have already earned a bachelor’s degree are not eligible.

If you have questions about financial aid or transfer scholarships, or to obtain a list of additional scholarships, please call the One Stop at 513-529-0001, email [email protected], or go to MiamiOH.edu/OneStop.

As part of the University’s commitment to maintaining a healthy and safe living, learning, and working environment, we encourage you to read the University’s Annual Security & Fire Safety Report at http://MiamiOH.edu/campus-safety/annual-report/index.html, which contains information about campus safety, crime statistics, and our drug and alcohol abuse and prevention program designed to prevent the unlawful possession, use, and distribution of drugs and alcohol on campus and at university events and activities. This report also contains information on programs and policies designed to prevent and address sexual violence, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Each year, email notification of this website is made to all faculty, staff, and enrolled students. Written notification is provided to prospective students and employees. Hard copies of the report may be obtained from the Miami University Police Department at 513-529-2225.

PRIVACY OF STUDENT RECORDS

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”) provides students in attendance at the University with a right of access to their education records, permits such students to challenge the accuracy of the records, and prohibits the non-consensual release of such information except in limited circumstances. Miami’s FERPA policy is online at MiamiOH.edu/policy-library.
