Congratulations Seniors Upcoming Events

May 14th is the last class day for seniors who are passing all courses. On May 15th Senior Day will be held. On this date seniors are required to attend the morning session where important information pertinent to baccalaureate and graduation senior informational purposes. Seniors wishing to not stay for the picnic at Town Creek Park will be released mid morning. Saturday, May 19th is the practice day for both Baccalaureate and Graduation at 10:00 am. Walking Seniors are required to attend for practice. Failure to attend will result in you not being able to walk. Baccalaureate on Sunday, May 20th at 5:00; Seniors arrive at 4:15. Graduation is on Tuesday, May 22nd at 7:00; Seniors arrive at 6:00.

Transcript Requests Seniors please be sure to fill out the transcript request form through Moodle. This is a required document in order to have your transcript sent to your home, military branch, college, or university after the completion of your spring credits. The counseling department will not know where to send your transcript unless the form is completed. See Mr. Yeager for assistance.

RECONNECT 2012 Deadline for schedule changes is June 22. RECONNECT sessions are July 24 for sophomores, July 25 for juniors, July 26 for seniors. RECONNECT sessions will be in the new gym from 8:30 a.m.-noon each day. The sessions will provide an opportunity for students to pick schedules, pay dues, pay for lunch/breakfast accounts, purchase lockers, receive parking hangtags, and tour the school. AHS must have an updated Pupil Information Card and two proofs of residency for a student to get information or pay fees during these sessions. These documents can be submitted to AHS anytime before the RECONNECT sessions.

Academic & Technical Course Offerings Looking for new courses to take next school year? Three new math courses will be offered next year: AP Statistics, Probability & Statistics, and Discrete Mathematics. Students can check with their counselor to see if they can take any of those courses.

Check out Books During the Summer! Ellen Donaldson, Media Specialist Nikki Robertson, Media Specialist Janet Nelson, Media Aide The OverDrive Digital Library has downloadable audio books and e-books for Windows and Mac computers, as well as portable devices like iPods, the Sony Reader, and Windows Mobile phones. Audio books and e-books may be checked out between 14-21 days; after that time, they will no longer play or open. You never have to return a title or worry about overdue fines! You may have a maximum of 10 titles checked out at one time. Software is required to use audio books and e-books on your computer or device. Visit the Library Media Moodle page for more information.

Tutoring Services For information regarding AHSGE tutoring services offered at AHS, contact Mr. Blake Busbin, AHSGE Tutoring Coordinator at 887-4970. To obtain general tutoring services contact the guidance staff.

AHS POLICY FOR COURSE SELECTION AND SCHEDULE CHANGES

1. Students will receive registration forms in large groups with their

English classes. 2. Students will receive instructions and information from Counselors

during these registration sessions. These sessions are separate from and in addition to Academic Sessions.

3. Students will then register their requests online and be given completed forms to take home and review with parents/guardians.

4. Students will be given a copy of schedule in the spring, which they are to take home for parents/guardians to review.

5. Students will have until JUNE 22nd to make any and all schedule changes. Schedule change forms will be made available in the Counseling Center and online for students to fill out.

6. Students/parents/guardians will not be allowed to make changes in schedule after the June 22nd deadline UNLESS there is an error in the schedule.

Please do not request a change after June 22nd, it will not be considered. Please note: Failing a course will not be considered a reason for changing a class.

7. Counselors/Registrar will keep all copies of registration forms and change requests forms to verify/document course selections and schedule change requests.

8. Students/Parents/Guardians should consider VERY carefully student course selections INCLUDING ELECTIVES AND AP/IB COURSES. Changes will not be made after the deadline even if the student has fulfilled his/her minimum subject/course requirements.

9. Students who do not register by deadlines will have courses selected by their Counselor and will forfeit the opportunity to make any changes.

Academic sessions are held each year in order for all students to meet with their assigned counselor. Sessions are tailored for each grade level and are held in small groups. The counseling department welcomes students, parents, and teachers at anytime; however, scheduling an appointment is encouraged.

PTA will become PTO

On April 5, 2012, the AHS PTA Board adopted a resolution to dissolve our PTA in order to reorganize as an independent parent-teacher organization specific to Auburn City Schools (ACS). An identical resolution has been adopted by all ten ACS PTA boards in the ACS system as well as the ACS PTA Council. On Thursday May 17, 2012 there will be a special meeting held at 5:00 in the auditorium at which the PTA membership will be asked to vote on this decision. We hope to have both parents and teachers in attendance. Please note that only teachers and parents who joined the AHS PTA for the 2011/2012 school year will be eligible to vote. For the most part, if this change happens, teachers won’t see much of a difference at all in how our group operates and what we do for the school. The biggest change for our organization will be the dollars that our parents and teachers pay for dues will now bring value directly to our own school system.

the Auburn Community Channel’s adventure into creating television programming just like the series you find on other stations and channels. Most of our shows are made by AHS students in the Mass Media Program at Auburn High School, but some programming is made by the City of Auburn and affiliates of Auburn City Schools. The shows that the mass media students produce are updated biyearly; but, some programming, like sports, city information, and commercials are updated more frequently (weekly, monthly, or quarterly). Auburn Early Education Center’s First Impressions

Whiskers and friends fly away to the Auburn airport, where they learn what it takes to be a pilot, how the different parts of the plane work, and even what vocabulary is necessary to know when having airport fun!

Cary Woods Elementary School’s Vocabu-Lily and Vocabu-Larry

As Cary Woods makes great strides in technology, their two undercover superheroes Vocabu-Lily and Vocabu-Larry swoop in to help teachers infuse that technology into the classroom to make learning more fun and interesting. And they never leave without teaching the students a vocabulary lesson or two!

Dean Road Elemantary School’s Mission Possible

Two alien astronauts rocket to Dean Road from the planet Zor and learn to adapt to life on Earth. In this episode, they learn new exercises, their ABC’s and 1-2-3’s, and all about Colonial Day at Dean Road.

A princess has been issued a decree to discover the true meaning of learning, and only then will she possesses the wisdom required of a princess. The English Department’s Keeping up with the English Department

Follow Mr. Pennisi in this parody docudrama as he struggles to work with the school system’s new Management Integration System. In the end, he succeeds with a great lesson.

AHS International Baccalaureate’s I Be in I.B.

A group of students are featured in this parody documentary as they struggle to successfully complete the rigorous International Baccalaureate program and come through in the end with a rewarding experience.

AHS JROTC students learn leadership skills, self-confidence, discipline, and proper dress, while being challenged mentally and physically through a variety of obstacles.

In the Spotlight The AHS Performing Arts teachers put together their shows for this fall season: AHS Theater works on To Kill a Mockingbird; Band prepares for the marching band season; Choir puts together the fall concert. The Spanish Department’s Spanish Para Ti

The Visual Arts Department’s Adventures in Artland

Take a psychedelic journey into Artland, the world of art, and meet the three fairy godparents of all things artistic: Tie-Dyer, Foxy Coxy, and Even Stevens. Watch these masters of Mache teach two bumbling students how to make a great looking gift and a box to put it in, too!

Basketball Camp

June 4-7, 2012

(Monday-Thursday)

8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Camp Includes:

Food: Lunch break from 11:00 – 11:30. Campers bring your own lunch. Cokes, chips, candy, and hamburgers may be

purchased at the camp concession stand. Facilities: Auburn High School New Gym and Auburn High Old Gym

Eligibility: 7-15 years old. Campers will be put into their age group and playing capabilities. Staff: Auburn High Basketball Staff and Varsity Players

Cost: (1) $80 per individual camper (2) $70 per camper if two or more from the same family. Bank: Campers may leave money in the camp bank that can be withdrawn to buy cokes,

candy, etc. Unused portions will be returned on Friday. Insurance: Must be provided by campers.

AUBURN HIGH CAFETERIA

2011-2012 The AHS Cafeteria offers five different lunch meal choices daily. Breakfast is served from 7:15 until 7:40 a.m, in 2 convenient locations (the dining room and bus stop area). Lunch at AHS Cafeteria consists of an entree plus up to 4 side choices and a milk choice. Entrée and side items must be chosen from the same line. Breakfast is $1.00, reduced is 30 cents and Lunches are $2.50, reduced is forty cents. Extras may be purchased also.

Lunch Accounts: Money may be added to lunch accounts in the morning before school, at lunch or through Meal pay plus, (www.mealpayplus.com). Here you may set up an account, view what is bought, set a reminder for a low balance e-mail, all for free. For a small fee you may add money to the student account also.

Free & Reduced Students must renew their applications each year, even if you qualified last year. Meals may not be charged at AHS cafeteria. Students are responsible for keeping up with the balance of their account. The cashier will remind them when the balance falls below $5.00, no other notification is given. To speed the lunch line, know your pin number and have your money ready when you get to the cashier.
