Spring Inventions You Couldn’t Live Without!
Brought to you by:
Can you image how uncomfortable your mattress
would be without compression springs to jump
on?
Compression Springs
Compression springs pop up out of nowhere!
They’re specially designed to have gaps between each coil, allowing the
spring to absorb energy when it’s pushed together!
Or how horrid driving would be without a heavy duty suspension
spring to cushion your drive?
Extension Springs a.k.a Tension Springs
Extension springs work in the opposite way to compression springs!
Designed with touching coils, these springs are used to
stretch apart when force is applied, holding a great
amount of potential energy! How un-springy would your
trampoline be without extension springs letting you
‘reach for the stars’? Extension springs are even used in door
locks!
Torsion SpringsTorsion springs act completely
different to Extension and Compression springs! Instead of stretching or
snapping back together, torsion springs are
designed like a helix!
They twist tighter together when force is applied!
Can you imagine using a butterfly clip without the use of a helix
spring?
Disc SpringsDisc springs are designed
into a conical shape making them very strong
and resilient!
This means they can withstand very large loads!
Disc springs’ unlimited number of stacking positions makes this particular spring
very versatile and adaptable!
Die SpringsDie springs are a stronger, more concentrated hybrid
version of compression springs! Die springs are made from
rectangular wire! This allows them to withstand greater forces than your standard
compression spring!
They can even withstand temperatures reaching a
whopping 475⁰!
Motor Springs
The unique design allows the spring to provide rotational energy from
the attached shaft, no matter what it’s locked with!
Motor springs allow for a 10-20 spring force turn!
Can you imagine living without motor powered equipment and
engines?
Wave Springs
Wave springs are space saving technology!
They use less material and are quicker and easier to assemble
than traditional coil springs. This makes them very cost
efficient!
Made from a flat spring metal, wave springs are a multi-coiled frame network perfect for fitting into
small spaces where a big job needs doing!
Clock Springs
Clock springs are specially designed to replicate extension
(aka torsion) springs!
The difference between the two is that clock springs are made from flat
wires instead of round!
They work by revolving around an object’s axis, pushing into other objects and forcing the cogs in a
clock to rotate!
