Arrow… Check with your fellow arrowmen to make sure everyone has paid their dues!” This is the

last Log before dues are paid.

[email protected] and Todd Rogers, [email protected] or send written nominations to the Scout

Office. Nominations should consist of a short paragraph summarizing why you feel a member should be

considered for the Vigil Honor. A list of names will not be considered a nomination. A meeting of Vigil

Honor members and voting will occur at the Spring Conclave. All Vigil Honor members should have

received the list of youth and adult Brotherhood eligible members in a letter during the Lodge Banquet or in

the mail in mid-March. If you have questions please contact Jacob or Todd.

Langundowi Brother Answers call to serve

Vigil Honor member Garrett Holden spent his spring break cleaning up and

repairing Guajataka Scout Reservation in northwest Puerto Rico. The camp

received heavy damage during Hurricane Maria.

I can't believe how fast the week went! I had a blast in Puerto Rico with

ArrowCorps, and will never forget those who helped to make it great! I loved

working with the wood chipper crew, and made many friends over the week. At the

end of the week, we were told that Camp Guajataka will no doubt have a summer

camp, and The Friendship Bridge was dedicated to ArrowCorps for the service

provided to the camp. We were told that ArrowCorps had saved the Puerto Rican

Council about $250,000 in service hours and fundraising. I am so thankful to be a

part of this event.

HISTORY COMMITTEE

Langundowi continues to seek out historical information from Lodge Brothers, friends and family. The goal

is to improve upon our Lodge History book and expand upon the details in the first version. We want to

improve the narrative, add new photographs, highlight the scouting achievements of significant members

(Lodge Chiefs, Section Officers, DSA recipients, Vigil Honor members), and continue to add to listing of

our memorabilia. We are also looking to add insignia that we might not have to the Lodge Archives

In order to make this effort successful, we are in search of a variety information:

▪ Photographs (Originals or Scans)

▪ Old Section Conclave Booklets (Area III-B, NE-5C, NE-5)

▪ Publications/Newsletters from Eriez 46, Hoh-Squa-Sa-Gah-Da 251, and Skanondo Inyan #256

▪ Old Langundowi Lodge Newsletters (Pre-2000)

▪ Memorabilia & Insignia

▪ Oral or Written Histories

▪ News Articles

▪ Membership Cards

The historical committee will gladly accept any information or leads that help us create a thorough and

accurate reference. We will gladly take any information, documentation or information you can provide. If

you know individuals who were members of Deer Rock/Skanondo Inyan, Hoh Squa Sa Gah Da or Eriez

Lodge who may have information, we are happy to contact them as well. We will have a scanner at the

Spring Conclave to make digital copies of documents and photographs.

To provide information please contact:

Dawson Bodosky – Chairman Todd Rogers – Adviser [email protected]

Attention Vigil Honor Members! Be thinking of which Brothers that you would like to see obtain the Vigil

Honor. Voting will be held Saturday afternoon at the Spring Conclave. The exact time will be announced at the Conclave.

ELANGOMATS NEEDED

Make sure to sign up to be an Elangomat this summer during the ordeals. If you

don’t know what that is or how to be one, stop by the Elangomat training during

the conclave. OA High Adventure Info

Check out the OA High Adventure programs at Philmont, Sea Base, Northern Tier,

and the Summit. These programs offer two full weeks of high intensity outdoor

adventure, leadership development, and a way to build friendships that will last a

The De-Un-Da-Ga Pow-Wow Memorial Day Weekend (May 26

th-28

th)

The De-Un-Da-Ga pow-wow has become an annual event at Custaloga Town. The pow-wow serves as an opportunity for the public and Scouting, to experience a portion of the Native American heritage. For over 30 years Scouters from all over Western Pennsylvania Eastern Ohio, West Virginia, and from as far away as California have been organizing and conducting this Memorial Day spectacular.

Langundowi became the host when the previous location was having problems with the timing of the event. Custaloga Town is an excellent facility for the pow-wow and provides opportunities to Scouts and Scouters that they will not find for several hundred miles.

The pow-wow is a northern traditional pow-wow conducted by hobbyists. The dignitaries include well known and traveled artisans from all over the country. The singers and their drums are well respected in the pow-wow circuit. This is truly an opportunity for you to experience Native American dance and crafts in a quality setting.

Camping is encouraged to get the full effect. You can camp in a motor home, a travel trailer, a tent, or if you want, under the stars. There is plenty of space in the field and

the only restrictions are there are no electric or water hook-ups, and ground fires are not allowed. Camp feed are provided by groups who want to give back to the camp for the privilege of attending. Langundowi operates a concession stand offering hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, candy, pop, juice, and specials which have included blooming onions and deep fried Oreos. You can camp for the weekend and not have to cook at all. Breakfast and hot coffee are available at the lodge booth starting at 6:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday. Eggs hash-browns, pancakes, juice are cooked up and served fresh. All of the

profits from the concession stand are used by the lodge for projects at camp.

If camping is not something you want, then at least come down and visit for the day. The pow-wow can make a great Summer Time Pack activity. Everyone in uniform gets a $1 off the daily admission price. Check out the schedule and fees soon to be posted on the lodge web site ( www.langundowi.org ).

Lodge members can attend the weekend for free by signing up for at least four hours of service at registration and/or in the food booth each day. Many hands make for easy work.

Attention All Members who completed their Ordeal in 2017: You are eligible to complete the requirements to seal your membership in the Order by

becoming a Brotherhood Member. It is NOT as strenuous as taking your Ordeal, but it is

MORE important. Plan on doing it at the Spring Conclave. Bring your lodge handbooks.

Lodge Policies Leaving Camp: Please note that is the policy of French Creek Council and Langundowi Lodge that anyone (youth or adult) leaving a

lodge event must sign out at the Administration Building desk before leaving and sign back in upon returning. Any

youth (under 18 years of age) must have parental permission in writing in order to be able to leave camp before the

event is scheduled to be over. This permission must be presented to the Lodge Adviser upon arrival at camp. This

written permission must include time and date of departure, time and date of return, and with whom the youth will be

traveling. This must be signed and dated by the youth’s parent or guardian.

Senior Citizens: Any active Lodge member over the age of 65 may attend any Langundowi Lodge activity free of charge. There are

only a few things that must be done to qualify. First, their dues for the current year must be paid. Second, they must

send in a reservation form by the deadline (minus the fee). This policy applies only the Langundowi Lodge events, and

is not applicable to the Section Conclave, NOAC, or guests.

Smoking: The designated smoking area during Lodge functions is the front seat of your personal vehicle, butts in the ashtray.

The cooperation of all smokers is greatly appreciated. Remember there is a legal age for the purchase of tobacco

products.

Pocket Flap Sales: The official Lodge pocket flap will be available for sale at each lodge function during the operating hours of the trading

post. An active member may purchase one (1) pocket flap at each lodge function he attends. Members may also

purchase one (1) pocket flap at the time they pay their annual dues. The purpose of this restriction is to encourage

member participation. The pocket flap is to serve as a method of identifying the members of Langundowi.

Refunds: Reservations for Lodge functions can be fully refunded only if they are cancelled on or before the reservation deadline.

Section Conclaves and National Conferences are handled in much the same manner.

Uniform and Membership Card: Members of Langundowi are the honor Campers of French Creek Council. We are to set the example to all other

scouts in the French Creek Council; therefore, a complete Class A uniform is to be worn at evening flag ceremonies,

Saturday dinner, and ceremonies during a lodge weekend. The OA sash is considered a part of the uniform at all

lodge events. People found violating the uniform guideline will be served last in meal lines. Exceptions to this policy

may be announced during the weekend to accommodate inclement weather, the theme of the weekend, or other

reasons deemed appropriate by the Lodge Officers.

Your valid membership should be presented to the dining hall steward at the door of the kitchen prior to all meals. An

event sticker or some other means should be applied to this card when you arrive and register for the event. This

should stay on your card for the duration of the weekend. Members who forget their card will be served after those

who have remembered their cards but before anyone who is violating the above mentioned uniform guidelines.
