Hello Members, We have certainly started 2020 with a bang. Our current situation with Corona Virus (COVID19) has certainly changed the way most of us do business, and will leave a lasting impression for years to come. Our last newsletter announced several events, many of which were cancelled or postponed...the Reverse Raffle, Spring Golf Classic, and continuing education in May.
We are hoping life will begin returning to “normal”, or at least the new normal very soon, and anticipate upcoming events to resume as scheduled. Continuing Education is currently scheduled August 20th and November 4th. Check out the website to register, be sure to use your Pin Number to get your member discount. You may call the office if you need your Pin Number. The Spring Golf Classic has been rescheduled for August 25th at Mill Creek Golf Club in Mebane. Looking forward to seeing you all there! May Membership Madness is May 12th-26th. Please try to recruit new members, we have enhanced benefits and many special offers during the month of May. The May Mix and Mingle hosted by Fisher Wealth
Management has been cancelled. We hope to continue Mixing and Mingling on August 18 at Burlington’s Carpet One, please make an effort to attend this fun event. Family Fun Night with the Burlington Royals is scheduled June 23rd...Go Royals! I hope you are all staying well. I look forward to seeing as many of your faces as possible over the coming months, socially distant, of course, as we get back to supporting our wonderful industry.

5Builders/Remodelers CornerNAHB updateIncoming macroeconomic data detail the economic damage the shutdown of the U.S. economy is having on households and businesses. Moves to gradually open up parts of the economy are responsible for a recent lifting of economic spirits and gains for the stock market itself. While risks remain — particularly of a W-shaped recovery that features recurring regional outbreaks of the virus — once markets get past the April and May data an improved outlook should be on the horizon.
Looking back, however, first quarter GDP growth was -4.8%, the first decline since the first quarter of 2014 and the worst performance since the start of 2009. The second quarter will be worse. NAHB’s revised forecast is that the rate of decline will accelerate to -20% to -30%; other forecasters place the quarter at up to a -40% decline. A bright spot in the first quarter GDP report was housing. Home building increased 21%, the best performance since the end of 2012. This is another sign of the potential of home construction to lead an economic rebound.
