Welcome to Sonoma State University's School of Extended and International Education!

As the recent election suggests, change comes quickly and in many forms. Sometimes we also want a career change or enhancement. Our certificate and non-degree courses provide a beginning to such change. These courses and programs provide continuing education to many professions and professionals, deliver critical needs for businesses enhancing their current workforce and give opportunities for professionals to remain competitive in fields such as education, human resources and construction.

We have a variety of craft beer classes, hosted by Lagunitas, and we offer classes on wine business and management. For those more musically inclined we have our audio and recording production certificate. All our classes involve community partnerships, on and off campus. These partnerships include our outstanding staff, faculty, and community members with a single focus: the student (you!). Our theme is to provide access and partnership for lifelong learning in the North Bay and beyond. If you are thinking of a career change or life enhancement—or both—please take a class or two!

Agile ProjectManagement Certificate The Agile Project Management Certificate course will combine lecture and discussions with weekly practice quizzes. The intent of the course is to enable an inexperienced student to become an outstanding contributor on an agile project team, while earning his/her required number of work experience hours to take the Project Management Institute Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP®) exam.

For experienced agile team members, the objective of the course is to provide the required number of class hours and a structured learning environment that will enable them to pass the PMI-ACP® exam.

Upon successfully completing the course, and regardless of their status with the PMI-ACP® exam, students will receive a Certificate in Agile Project Management issued by Sonoma State University.

Project ManagementCertificateThe Project Management Certification & Exam Preparation Course will meet the 23-hour educational requirement to sit for the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) exam and will offer experienced project managers the 35-hour educational requirement necessary to qualify for the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam. The course does not include the cost or scheduling of the PMI examinations.

The course will include lectures, assigned readings, weekly practice exam quizzes, case study discussions, and hands-on experience with Microsoft Project.

Intuition: The Light of Inner GuidanceIn this course you will learn how to recognize and develop your intuition in order to guide you in various areas of your life — relationships, career, health and well-being, spirituality, decision-making, problem solving, financial prosperity, sports, creativity, etc.

People often think of the wine business in terms of making wine or selling grapes. The complexity of tending to a vineyard or producing wine often overwhelms entrepreneurs looking to start a winery, or the owners of small family businesses in the wine industry. As a result, the journey into wine becomes stressful or chaotic.

The focus of wine entrepreneurship is to provide principals of small wine businesses (or those who aspire to enter the industry) with the space and the time to reflect on their vision. It will aid them in developing a business path for a profitable new product, new business, or career in the wine industry.

Over eight weeks, participants in the seminar will be exposed to key aspects of the wine business, including the regulatory climate for making and selling wine, financial frameworks to develop a vineyard and winery or create a virtual brand, and different models for profitability. You will hear from industry leaders and veterans who will describe their experiences and lessons learned. By the end of the course, every participant will have the tools and frameworks to critically evaluate the competitive landscape and make decisions on a course of action.

This certificate is only offered once annually in the spring.
