Greetings from the Alumni Association Board of Directors. We invite you to stay involved with your University. This is the time of year when we have our annual elections for open positions on the Board. I urge each and every one of you to take the time to vote. You have an import-ant voice in shaping the leadership and makeup of the Board and you are a key part of continuing the momentum we have built in recent years.

I also want to bring your attention to the cover article about alumni speakers in the classroom. The most valuable lessons a student can learn are the real-world experiences you have every day in your career. Take advantage of this opportunity and help students chart their future paths. To speak to a class, call the Office of Alumni Relations at 413-782-1478.

The students were also joined by a special guest—President Anthony S. Caprio. SEA Program Director Curt Hamakawa L’84 said he appreciated Stein hosting the students’ trip to Kalibrate and was grateful for President

Caprio’s participation. “This kind of class collaboration with alumni is invaluable for student learning because it allows for direct interaction with practitioners in industry,” said Professor Hamakawa.

Sharing Their Expertise

Professional Educator of Communication Brenda Garton-Sjoberg recently hosted the following speakers in her Business Commu-nication class: Steve Page ’05, a structured credit analyst at Babson Capital Management; Sarah Rueli ’15, a brand market specialist at The Silent Partner Marketing; University Trustee Paul Mancinone L’92, an attorney; David Bohl ’15, a communication and social

media specialist at Garvey Communications; and Nate Szymanski ’15, an account manager at Envision Marketing and Advertising.

The benefits of these experiences are twofold, affording alumni the opportunity to return to campus and connect with current students, and allowing students to network and benefit from the advice of successful Western New England University graduates.

If you have an interest in speaking to a class or offering your experiences to our students in another format, please contact Director of Alumni Relations Kathy Pappas G’98 by calling 413-782-11478 or via email at [email protected].

Experience: Former Member-at-Large

“Having previously served on the Alumni Association as a Member-at-Large and currently serving the University community as an adjunct profes-

sor, this position would afford me the opportunity to continue to give back to a community that has provided me with so much. I’ve also been involved in such Board activities as the Grants Committee, Homecoming Committee, and I have been a Skookum Award interviewer. I believe these exper- iences render me a qualified candi-date. The University has always been a part of my family and it is a place that I call home. I would be proud to have the opportunity to serve the alumni community in this new role.”

“While attending the University, I served on Student Senate as the finance chairperson as well as Secretary of the Residence Hall

“I am excited to run for a second year on the Alumni Association Board of Directors as a Member-at-Large. I hope to build on the
