RULES and GENERAL INFORMATION

Registration is accepted on a first come basis. Slots will not be held open for continuing stu-dents. Instructors are not responsible for class registration. Persons who register for LAP classes will not receive verification notices. You may call the office to make sure your registration has been received at 304-293-0859. ●LAP reserves the right to limit transferring between classes. ●Valuables should not be brought to class. LAP is not responsible for lost or stolen items. ●LAP reserves the right to terminate enrollment of any enrollee for inappropriate behavior, disruption of class, or destruction of property. Refunds will not be given. ●LAP calendar follows the WVU semester calendar. Some classes may not meet on WVU holidays, Football game days or Basketball game days. Each instructor will let their class know what dates the class will not meet and what dates will be used for make up classes. ●Full refunds will not be made unless classes are cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or extenuating circumstances on a case by case basis. A $20.00 processing fee will be charged for all other refunds. • West Virginia University Employees receive a $5.00 discount on ALL Adult Classes with

* next to the class name. (Discount does not include kids classes, parties, or certification classes)

Liability ●Please consult your physician before beginning any exercise regiment. Physician’s health permits are required before participation in some designated classes. Permits are valid for one year after being issued. Instructors reserve the right to require a health permit on an individual basis. ●No one will be allowed on the pool deck unless enrolled in class. Children are not permitted in observation areas without an adult present. ●WVU accepts no responsibility for treatment of injuries to participants other than rendering immediate first aid. The College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, and the Lifetime Activities Program make every effort to ensure that our classes are safe and properly supervised. LAP classes are activity based, which by their nature presents the possibility of injury.

Registration Information Registration is accepted as soon as the booklet is received. Forms must be submitted with payment by check, money order, cash. or credit card. Checks are payable to: West Virginia University. Registration by mail is recommended. Please mail registration form and check or money order to:

Walk-in registration and payment is accepted at the Lifetime Activities Office in Coliseum Room 238 (Gold Gate Entrance) between 8:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. We are now accepting Visa, Discover, and MasterCard.

Please use one registration form for each class and each student. (see form on pages 6 & 7 along with refund policy information) Please fill out one registration form for each participant. Make extra copies if they are needed. • Separate checks or money orders should be sent for each class. • Physician’s health permit is required for some classes and must be

turned in to the LAP office or to the instructor by the first day of class.

• Employees of WVU will receive a $5.00 discount on adult fitness and aquatic classes. Must provide your WVU email address on the registration for employment verification.

Discover the benefits, both physically and emotionally, of healthy touch designed to strengthen the bond of any relationship while promoting better health and sense of well being. Scuba (Age: 10 – Adult) Class Description: Always wanted to try it? Now is your chance. Two instructors with 35 years combined experience will guide you through the PADI Open Water certification process, and mold you into a safe confident SCUBA diver. It's fun and easy. At the end of 5 weeks each student will complete 4 open water dives. • Price includes equipment used in the pool and open water, books and all certification fees. Students need to provide their own mask, snorkel, fins and boots. Session I

Swim Lessons (Age: 5 – 15) This program is open to all levels (non-swimmers to advanced swimmers). Children will be skill tested to assure proper class placement. Instructors teach basic strokes, safety skills, and other swimming techniques. For liability reasons, no one will be allowed on the pool deck unless enrolled in the class. No children are allowed in observation areas without an adult sitting with them. Water Aerobics * (Age: 16 – Adult) Class Description: This class involves a mixture of cardiovascular and toning exercises. In this class you can enjoy the same level of cardiovascular workout you get on land without the strain on your joints. Swimmers and non-swimmers welcome. Aquatic Personal Training Class Description: Get one on one personalized workouts in the pool with an aquatics specialist. Fee: $30.00 per 50 minute session. GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow (Ages 11–14) Class Description: Learn what it takes to be a great lifeguard—from lifesaving and leadership skills to fitness and professional development. The experience you gain through the Guard-Start program will help you prepare for Red Cross lifeguard training. Adult Learn to Swim* (Age: Adult) Class Description: This class is designed specifically for adults who never had the chance to learn to swim as a child. We will teach you to swim in a supportive and encouraging environment. Everyone is encouraged to go at their own pace. Space in this class is limited to 12 participants. WSI (Age: 16 – Adult) Class Description: This class is designed to develop aquatic and instructional skills. This course is based on Red Cross guidelines and standards. Upon passing the course you will be certified to teach swimming lessons, diving, community water safety, water safety instructor aid course and infant and preschool programs. Fees include books, instruction, and certification cards. Participants must pass the swim test on the first night to take this course. Pre-School Aquatics (Age: 6 mo. – 3 years) Class Description: To orient preschool-age children to the aquatic environment and to help them acquire rudimentary levels of basic aquatic skills. Lap Aquatics Pool Parties (All Ages) Class Description: LAP Aquatics will be hosting a series of pool parties. Each pool party includes theme music, activities, goody bags and a 2 hour open swim. Fun for all ages. Come swim and play at the WVU Natatorium's indoor heated pool. Pre-register or pay at the door. (Parents who are not participating must sit in the balcony viewing area)

Fee includes the use of both pools, 2 lifeguards, spectator/balcony area, locker rooms, and pool toys (noodles, inflatable deck fountains, kickboards, etc.). • No inflatable devices are allowed in the pool. • All food must be kept in the balcony area. • All trash must be removed from the pool deck and balcony area at the end of the

WII Fit Club (Age: 12 – Adult) Class Description: Parents, are you looking for something to do while your kids are in swimming or gymnastic classes? Why not get a quick workout? Come to room 206 of the Natatorium and play WII fit. Location: Natatorium Room 206 Date: Jan 26 - April 30 Days & Time: Mon. – Fri. from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Aqua Gold Tone Zumba* (Age: Adult) Class Description: This class would teach the basic Zumba moves in the pool, using Latin dance music and incorporating the Zumba toning moves as well. We will be in shallow water, do not have to know how to swim. Fun way to get in shape, lose weight, tone up. Great exercise, especially for arthritics. Location: E. Zumba Gold Tone* (Age: Adult) Class Description: NEW! This class takes Zumba to the next level! It not only includes the slower-paced version of Zumba for those individuals who are Deconditioned, overweight, or have limited abilities, but includes circuit training and toning the muscles of the body with weights!. A fun way for you to get all the components of fitness. 6 week session. Zumba Gold* (Age: Adult) Class Description: This class is a slower-paced version of Zumba for those individuals who are de-conditioned, overweight, or have limited abilities. This low-impact Latin dance aerobic class is a fun way to get moving, tone the body, and most of all have fun! Class includes a warm-up, cardio, and cool down. 6 week sessions. Gymnastics (Age: 4 through high school age) Coordination, physical skill, split second timing, and strength are but a few of the qualities associated with the performance of gymnastics skills, tumbling and apparatus work. Students are tested and assigned to a specific skill level the first day of class. Returning students pre-register for the class level previously assigned to them. Girls wear leotards with/without footless tights or shorts and must have hair pulled back; boys wear gym shorts and T-shirts. Class size is now being limited, please register before classes begin. For liability reasons, no one will be allowed in the exercise area unless enrolled in the class. Preschool-Beginner Plus: Learn body control, agility; build strength, coordination through the practice of basic skills. Mountain Duathlon (Age: 14 – Adult) Class Description: Join us this spring for the second annual off-road Mountain Duathlon! The multisport race will begin with a rolling 2-mile long trail run along a ridge top. Introduction To Tang Soo Do Korean Martial Art (Age: 14-Adult) Class Description: Tang Soo Do is a Korean martial art that has many similarities with Tae Kwon Do. It is often referred to generically as Karate. The course will consist of beginner-level concepts and techniques taught by the World Tang Soo Do Association. Students will learn three Tang Soo Do forms (the formal, structured patterns of blocking, punching, and kicking techniques, also known as katas), as well as a system of self-defense, hand, and kick techniques. Much of the class will be taught using traditional Korean terminology that is easily learned in class. Primary objectives are mindful exercise, self-knowledge, improved flexibility, strength and endurance, and of course, self-defense. Non-contact sparring is only a minor component of this course and is not required. A uniform is not required but strongly recommended. Specific sources will be dis-cussed in class. Instructor: T.
