Strains• Strain – can result form overexerting or pulling

a muscle.

• Symptoms: • Dull pain that worsens with movement of the

injured area• Swelling around the injured area

Sprains

• Sprain – An injury to a ligament.

• Symptoms: • A popping sound or tearing sensation at the time of

injury.• Pain in the injured joint, especially when moving in.• Swelling of the joint.• Tenderness when the injured area is touched• Discoloration (black and blue) around the injured area

Sprains and Strains Treatment• RICE can help you remember the steps to take when

applying first aid help to either strains and/or sprains.

• R- rest the injured area and avoid using • I- ice the area during the first 24 hours to reduce

swelling. After that, periodically apply moist heat to the area.

• C- compress the area with an elastic wrap• E- elevate the injured are to prevent pr limit swelling.

Dislocations

• Dislocation – A joint that is twisted or overstressed.

• Symptoms: Swelling and deformity around the injured areaInability to move the joint, or pain when moving

the jointDiscoloration, tenderness, or numbness

DislocationTreatment

Step 1) Do not move the injured limb or try to put a dislocated bone back into its place.

Step 2) Place the victim in a comfortable position.

Step 3) Stabilize the injured body part with a sling or a splint.

Step 4) Seek medical attention promtly.

Sunburns

• Sunburn - Sun ultraviolet radiation irritation of the skin.

• Prevention :• Use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or more.

Symptoms: Reddened skinPain in the area of the burnBlisters in the burned area

Sunburn Treatment• Step 1) Cover the victim’s skin with light clothing

or a towel.• Step 2) Help the victim move indoors or into the

shade.• Step 3) Pour cold water on the cloth covering the

burned area to cool the skin and relieve the pain.• Step 4)Encourage the person to take frequent sips

of cold water• Step 5) For severe sunburn, seek medical help.
