Last night we held our Annual General Meeting for Parents’ Club which was fol-lowed by a general meeting. It is with
great pleasure that I announce this year’s office bearers are: Tracy Blake (President), Kelly Stapleton (Secretary) and Wendy Kennedy (Treasurer). General committee members are: Annette Hunt, Lisa Irwin, Stacey Rae, Kim Cowen, Amy Keat and Deanne Moulsdale. Thank you to Bonnie Morgan, Sheree McIntosh and Zoi Tricarico for their time on Parents’ Club.
Our Parents’ Club do an outstanding job in raising funds and supporting our school. The work they do is invaluable and should never be under estimated. There are already activities and events being planned by Parents’ Club for this year so watch this space for details.
There are a number of meetings and Parent/Teacher interviews happening this week. We have Student Support Group meetings, Parent/Teacher interviews for our Foundation and new students and for students requiring Education Learning Plans. The links between school and home and home and school are vital in supporting your child’s education. Thank you for your support!
On Friday 8th March there is no school for students as we have a Curriculum Day for staff. We are heading to Kialla West PS to learn more about the State Education Plan’s Literacy
Strategy regarding the implementation of Reader’s and Writer's workshops.
Monday is Labour Day in Victoria and a public holiday so there is no school. We resume classes on Tuesday 12th March.
There is NO Outside School Hours Care on Tuesday 12th March as we are all doing our first aid updates for CPR, Anaphylaxis and Asthma at Kialla West. These areas are mandated by the Department for all staff to be updated on an annual basis. Please ensure you have alternative arrangements in place. There will be no staff onsite at Kialla Central as of 3.30pm. Your support and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Our Foundation students start school full time this week, there are no more
Wednesday rest days. Please ensure they have an Art smock and Library bag at school as these specialists visit our school on alternating Wednesdays. It is Library this week.
We have our Kialla Central House Athletics on Friday 15th March and then our East Goulburn Primary School Sports Association on Friday 29th March. Our students are busy learning and training for these special events.
Our KCPS Day is quite casual and a lot of fun. The EGPSSA’s day is a very busy and tiring day. It is also quite serious as the older students can qualify for the next level of competition which leads on to Regional, State and National events. Thank you to those families who have already offered to help for EGPSSA day. We need as many helpers as we can to help share the workload.

We are hosting our K.C.P.S. House Athletics at school. Students are encouraged to wear their house colours:
Archer ~ Blue Fairmaid ~ Green Mitchell ~ Yellow
Please keep in mind we are a Sunsmart school so students are not allowed to wear singlets. Broad brimmed hats are compulsory. It is a normal school day starting at 8.50am, our bus and OSHC will operate as per usual. Our first event will start at 9.30am and we will be finished by 1.30pm. Students will go back into their classrooms for the afternoon session. Recess and lunch time will be decided on the day based on how quickly we progress through our events.
Parents, carers and families are welcome to attend this event. We will need a couple of helpers for some of our events. Our House Athletics is a great day which all of our students enjoy. It is about having a go and trying your best! GO ARCHER! GO FAIRMAID! GO MITCHELL! Last week we sent home with the eldest of each family, a copy of the Activities in the Park brochure for March and April. There are a range of free and low cost activities available for you to enjoy. I encourage you to have a look at what is on and attend some events to support our local community.
Finally, I would like to welcome Dee Bemrose to Kialla Central
Primary School. She is currently doing her Education Support course and is required to
complete 120 hours of voluntary placement at a school. Dee has extensive experience in Early Childhood and will be working with Miss Posteraro’s Grade 3/4 with Mrs Opie and Mrs O’Donnell. We trust you will enjoy your time at K.C.P.S. Dee! Debbie Humphries Proud Principal of KCPS

February 2019 CONGRATULATIONS
Riley ~ Grade 5
For using his initiative and showing his leadership skills without being asked.
Congratulations Riley!
CLASSROOM WRAP F/1 Moulsdale
Our word of the week is ‘sun’. Grade 1 SMART Spelling links nicely exploring ‘u’ as in ‘bus’. In mathematics, we are investigating time language: yesterday, today, tomorrow, morning, afternoon, night, days, weeks, months and years.
1/2 Baker In SMART Spelling our focus is the trigraph ‘dge’ making the sound ‘j’ as in bridge. In writing we are still exploring Narratives through Fairy Tales. For Maths we have been using informal units of measurement and we will be completing a ‘Measure Me’ activity.
3/4 Posteraro
Our spelling focus is ‘or’ making the ‘er’ sound in word. In writing we are exploring Persuasive texts and how to convince someone to agree with our opinion. We are continuing to read Nancy Drew as our class novel.
5/6 Zito
Our spelling focus is the graph /c/ making the sound ‘s’ as in city. We are working on integers in maths and in particular looking at number lines.
Design Technology ~ Miss H & Mrs O
In Design Technology we are investigating Mazes. Last week we looked at different types of mazes, how they were made and discussed the mazes we had been in. This week we are going to start to plan our own mazes and eventually make one.
IT’S BACK … K.C.P.S. 2019 Footy Tipping Competition
The Important Stuff
How to Enter:
Obtain the draw for the week, there will be one attached to the newsletter or if you need more than one let Mrs. Opie know – she’s in charge of extras tipping sheets.
Circle who you think will win.
Think of a code name if you wish.
The first time you use a code name please put your name on the sheet as well.
Return your entry (with winners marked) to the school.
The Rules:
1. Every entry must have a name on it. Don’t forget you can use your ‘code’ names but make sure that Bomber 10 or Mrs. Opie knows who you are!
2. Entries must be received at the school by the date and time specified on the draw for each week and must be paid for.
3. Cost is $1.00 per week with the Total being $23:00. You may pay the full $23:00 up front or pay $10.00 up front and $13.00 by Round 10.
4. Winnings each week are split between those tipsters who pick 9 winners (draws are excluded). If nobody picks 9 winners then the prize pool will jackpot to the next week.
5. The jackpot cannot be claimed on a draw and nobody will receive points for the draw unless you specifically pick it.
6. The prize pool will be determined by the number of entries received each week. The prize pool is determined on a 50%/40%/10% split - 50% of the money goes to the school -40% to those who tip all 9 winners and 10% for the end of season prizes. At the end of the season, the 10% will be distributed as follows: the person who picks most winners for the season receives 50% of the prize pool. Second will receive 30%, third will receive 15%. 5% will go towards getting the wooden spoon trophy engraved. The more people that enter, the larger the return.
7. If you have paid in advance but forget to put your tips in for that week, you will be given the away teams, but if all away teams win you will not be entitled to the jackpot.
8. In the event of a drawn game you will not receive a point unless you pick a draw
9. Where there are rounds of only 6 games you must tip all 6 games correctly in 2 consecutive weeks to be eligible to collect the jackpot.
10. Results of each week and the balance of the prize pool will be published weekly in the newsletter.
Remember, there are no losers in our competition
Everyone is a winner … and not just for their tipping ability!!
Good Tipping Everyone!!
IT’S BACK … K.C.P.S. Footy Tipping Competition 2019
Talking Footy with Bomber 10
Well all you Footy Tipping Fans and non Footy Fans alike, it’s that time of the year again when you can put all your football knowledge together to try and win KCPS now famous Footy Tipping Competition or win our equally famous “Wooden Spoon” which can be just as hard to win. You do not need to know a lot about the footy to do well as sometimes a little bit of knowledge in footy can be a hindrance.
To join our Footy Tipping Competition just pay $23:00 per tipper at the start of the season or you can pay $10:00 upfront and the remaining $13:00 by round 10. It is that simple.
At the end of term 3 the school hosts a Footy Day where the winners are announced. New Tippers are most welcome and all profits go to the school so sign up and join in the fun. The more the merrier!
For all those new to the school and to those who have not joined in before the KCPS Footy Tipping Competition has become a tradition here at Kialla Central Primary School. Our Footy Tipping Competition is a fundraiser for the school and a lot of fun is had along the way.
Bomber 10 looks forward to receiving the children’s colourful footy tipping sheets and any other written comments such as when anyone is going to the footy or any challenge made with” Miss H” when her beloved “Magpies” are beaten by your team. Just beware that you may have to wear her “Magpie” scarf for a week at school if your team looses.
