• Revised Range Rules: The range rules have been
revised in conjuncon with the paral reopening of the
Upper Pistol Range and the ancipated opening of the
Meadow Pistol Range. The range rules are available on
the club website: www.mdi.net/dml/RangeRules.pdf
• Work Party: Sept 20 starng at 8am. Please a$end
even if you can only lend a hand for a couple hours.
• Rules Violaons: A member found to be shoong from
the le' hand side of the Upper Pistol Range. The le' side
of the Upper Pistol Range is closed and is clearly marked.
Only the right hand side of the Upper Pistol Range is
currently open. The member was suspended from the
club for two months for the violaon.
In a separate incident, a bowling ball was used as a target
on the rifle range. This is a serious violaon as only paper
targets and the club provided steel target at 200 yards
are permi!ed on the rifle ranges. The offending member
has not yet been idenfied. Please contact a director if
you witnessed this violaon, or any other violaons.
• Air Rifle and Air Pistol: .177 and .22 caliber air rifles
and air pistols are now permi$ed on the Lower Archery
Range. The firing line is the pavilion, and all pellets must
be fired towards the hillside.
• JR Rifle Program: The junior program will resume in
September. The program is on Tuesday nights, and runs
for 7 weeks. Parcipants will learn rifle marksmanship
with match grade, .22 rimfire rifles on the indoor range.
Minimum age is 12 years old. Adults welcome if space is
available. The cost of the enre program is only $10/
parcipant. Contact Miles Ford or Chuck Augenstein.
• Meadow Pistol Range Grand Opening: A ribbon cu4ng
ceremony to mark the opening of the range will occur
Thursday, August 28 at 7:30pm before the meeng. Bring
your favorite straight-walled cartridge pistol and help us
christen the new range with the first shots. See page 3
for more details.
• PA Smallbore Prone Championship: The championship
was held at DMSC August 9-10. Steve Agneli finished first
overall with a stunning 3197-277x out of 3200 possible
points. See page 4 for more details
DMSC SHORT SHOTS
• Leadership Change: A'er 30 years of faithful service,
George Dietz has stepped down from the DMSC Board of
Directors. The club is grateful for his many contribuons
over the years. The Board appointed Marc Burnes to
serve out the remainder of George’s term.
• Passing of a member: Dr. Robert Lumish lost his ba$le
with cancer on July 31. www.legacy.com/obituaries/
postgaze$e/obituary.aspx?pid=171954696
• The Friends of the NRA Banquet: will be held Sept 13 in
New Eagle. Contact Chuck Augenstein for ckets. $40
• FOAC Gun Bash: Oct 11 at Washington Cty Fairgrounds.
DMSC Conducts Safety Reviews
Board appointed Range Safety Officers (RSOs) will
conduct a random series of membership checks and
safety reviews. RSOs will meet with members and
guests while at the firing range. Each member will be
given a green safety card with important safety
informaon to review, membership ID’s will be
checked, a green scker will be affixed to the
membership card, and a copy of the range rules will
be made available. It’s important for all members to
review safe gun handling procedures and to focus on
the safety rules for each range used. The RSOs will
be a wearing a disncve safety vest and hat and
will only ask for a few minutes of your me.
KEEP IT SAFE ALWAYS keep firearms pointed in a safe direction. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. ALWAYS keep firearms unloaded until ready to use. ALWAYS unload, remove the magazine, and open the action of a firearm when someone is going down range. NEVER handle firearms while someone is down range. ALWAYS wear proper eye and ear protection at the range.

Meadow Pistol Range Grand Opening Thursday, August 28 @ 7:30pm
The concrete pad at the firing line for the Meadow Pistol Range was poured at the last work party. A big
thanks to Doug Gawronski, Chuck Augenstein, Dan Kiselica, Joe Micikas, John Bradford, Barry Flieschmann,
and Mark for their efforts on this.
A grand opening and first shots ceremony will be held before the August members meeng at 7:30pm. All
members are invited to parcipate in the event by bringing their favorite straight-walled caliber handgun
and ammo (9mm, .40, .45, .357, etc).
The next steps will be to construct a pavilion over the firing line and a baffle system. Following the grand

PA Smallbore Prone State Championship
The Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen's Club hosted more than two dozen Keystone shooters at the 2014
Pennsylvania State Convenonal Prone Championship held on August 9-10.
Junior shooter William Dixon won the 50 Yard Metallic Sight Match with 400-38, but intermediate senior
Steve Angeli jumped out early, placing second in the 50 Yard Metallic Sight Match with 400-36X, and then
winning the Meter Match, 400-33X, Dewar Match, 400-34X, and 100 Yards, 400-30X, to take the metallic
sight aggregate with a 1600-133X, winning the Oster Trophy.
Juniors placed second, third and fourth in the metallic sight aggregate; Expert Tony Jackson 1597-115X, Dixon
1594-123X, while Pi$sburgh and Suburban Rifle League competor Ma$hew Lovre fired a 1594-92X. Bill
Burkert took the senior aggregate with a 1592-120X, out Xing Bob Gibilisco by six. Local Mt. Lebanon High
School WPIAL prone shooter Kaelyn Chick was high lady irons with 1573-73X, just ahead of brother John
Chick, 1572-73X, and right behind coach Dave Willard, 1574-85X, which must have made for some interesng
conversaon in the car on the ride home
Angeli started out the any sights day with a full head of steam, winning his fourth-straight match with a
clean, this me a 400-39X at 50 Yards. He beat out defending state champ Bob Okeson who creedmoored
Dixon’s 400-38X with 50-5X on his final bull to Dixon’s 50-4X on bull eight. It would be Angeli’s last look at
perfecon as he would drop one point in each of his last three matches, firing idencal scores of 399-35X.
Burkert took the 50 Meter Match with 400-35X; Gibilisco won the Dewar any with 400-33X, and Okeson
bested all at the 100 yard line with 400-32X.
Okeson was the best in the any sight aggregate with 1599-127X. Gibilisco was second and high senior,
winning the Herman Obrecht/Roy Oster trophy with 1598-130X. Erin Gestl was third with 1598-125X, and
Angeli was high Master with 1597-144-X. William Dixon was high junior posng 1596-124X, and junior
Nicholle Benedict, another local product, was high any, shoong irons, with 1578-83X. She will be off to
Texas Chrisan University in the fall to shoot for Karen Monez’s Horned Frogs.
Angeli hung on to become the Pennsylvania State Convenonal Prone Champion, winning the George Handel
Trophy, with 3197-277X. Junior Tony Jackson was second overall and Junior Champion with 3193-223X,
taking the J. Kenneth Johnson Trophy. Defending state champ Okeson was third overall, carding a 3191-
232X. Gibilisco was the senior champion with 3190-244X, just one X and one point ahead of senior Burkert,
3189-243X. Benedict’s 3146-158x gave her the Women's Champion tle and the Dri'wood Trophy.
We were blessed with great weather, and a great crew; Chief Range Officer Amy Smith, Chief Stascal
Officer John Funk, Dale Emerick, Ma$ Pia$, Bob King, Rick Janoski, Evan Trew and Leah Trew.
Thank you for a$ending, and congratulaons to everyone on some great scores. Hope to see all of you again
real soon, and always favor center!
