What is Sports Writing?

It is a Kind of Journalism that reports on sports topics and events.

It is often considered as the toy department in any newspaper since it does not concern on serious topics.

Qualities of a sports news

• Must answer the 5 w’s and 1 h.• Describes the most thrilling and

eventful part of the game• It uses more colorful words, figures

of speech and longer sentences which are not present in other news.

• It uses special vocabulary(sports lingo)

What makes a good Sports Writer?

Must be a sports enthusiastMust know the basic rules of the gamesMust have the ability to take notes quickly

without missing the important sequence of the play

Must be fair in reporting even though he has a favorite team or player in the game
