Country Gymnastics www.countrygymnastics.com By Ken McDowell Sports Editor LAKEWOOD – Kayla Zink is making her name well known in track and field in the state of Colorado. In the Class 2A State Track and Field Meet at Jeffco Stadium Saturday, the Caliche High School (CHS) junior captured the state title in the 100-meter dash for the third straight year, clocking a time of 12.74. Last year Zink won the Class 2A state title in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.66. As a freshman Zink won the 100-meter dash in the Class 1A State Meet with a time of 12.88. Zink wasn’t the only state champion from Caliche as senior Jaedyn Lambrecht closed out her high school career by winning the Class 2A state title in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.37. Lambrecht clocked a personal best time of 16.33 in the preliminaries to place third, which qualified her for the finals. “It felt amazing to win and it was a great way to end the state track meet,” she said. Zink also finished first in the prelims of the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.51 to reach the finals. She said that winning the state title is something that is exciting every year. “Winning there is a feeling I will never take for granted and it never gets old,” she said. “Honestly, I just have to give all of the glory to God because He is the one who brought me to the podium once again. “I would say another key to winning was just to focus on getting out of the blocks as fast as I could and then just giving it my all.” Zink has one more year left to have the opportunity to experience the thrill of victory once again, and she is already looking forward to it. “I am definitely looking for another one next year,” she admitted. “I already want that more than anything!” Zink also enjoyed placing in 2 other individual events at state. She was third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.13. In the prelims Zink that same personal best time of 26.13 to reach the finals.
