    Our Christian Commitment Founded in 1986, Sports Outreach Institute is an

    international Christian organization, meeting andserving the poorest of the poor in their communitiesby sharing and living out the Gospel.

    We extend assistance to all people, regardless oftheir religious beliefs, gender, race, or ethnicbackground.

    For Sports Outreach Institute staff in the United

    States, Christian faith is a prerequisite foremployment, based upon United States federalguidelines provided in Title VII of the Civil RightsAct of 1964.

    Our Opportunity Our methodology is based on an incarnational

    and relational model that affords us theopportunity to serve others by equipping,

    encouraging and walking alongside those withwhom we work. Our goal is not to gainrecognition and credit for ourselves but rather,to be a servant in the true sense of the word,modeling Christ at every turn. While we are a

    Our ApproachAt sports outreach institute we have been working with our partnersand staff to spread the gospel and alleviate suffering for more thantwenty years and have directly impacted thousands of lives in apositive and holistic manner.     Twelve Issues to Address

    1 SOI needs to increase involvement of the Board of Directors soas to enhance the overall planning, development and

    governance areas of the organization.

    2 Need to recruit younger, qualified staff members for the planned

    growth and transition to the next generation of leadership.

    3 The effectiveness of the ministry is hampered because of too

    much prayer-less activity and a lack of on-going trainingopportunities for staff.

    4 Sports Outreach Institute does not have a written plan or

    strategy for development to provide for the financial security of

    the organization.

    5 Currently SOI is wasting time and resources due to a lack of

    clarity over job responsibilities and descriptions as well as

    duplication of cost complicated by the operation of multipleoffices.

    6 After 25 years of growth it is necessary to review the financial

    accounting and stewardship practices of SOI.

    Twelve Issues to Address7 Recent board meeting discussions and letters to board membersby the president and Executive Director indicate different

    opinions and in some instances confusion regarding the currentstaff, programming and overall direction of SOI.

    8 Recent conversations with board members and staff indicate aneed for better communication regarding staffing, programupdates and financial funding. Several board members and staffindicated a desire for more current information regarding thesethings so that they could more faithfully represent the work andfinancial needs of SOI to others.

    9 There have been several discussions relating to the size of theBoard of Directors of SOI. Discussions have centered on the needto reduce the size of the board and thus increase involvement ofactive members.

    10 Examination of staff salary scale, personal support and possible

    addition of more complete benefit package for employees of SOI.11 Need to introduce SOI to a large east coast market that will

    increase visibility, fund-raising opportunities and enhancerecruitment of new staff.

    12 Need to provide a permanent office, demonstration site andtraining center in the USA.
