The 20-year-old first baseman hit .412 during the NJCAA tournament, which fea- tured 10 other regional champions from across the United States, and drove in sev- en runs. Larmour was also the recipient of a gold glove award for his defence. Mesa, the Southwest Region champs, entered the tournament as the top-ranked team. The Thunderbirds lost their first game of the double-elimination competi- tion before winning their next five, includ- ing an 11-inning 9-7 win over Hinds Uni- versity in the final. Canada is seeking a return to the top of the U16 podium after a bronze-medal effort in 2012, the last time the bi- ennial tournament was held. Canada won the U18 and U20 divisions in 2012 after claiming U16 and U20 gold in 2010. The U20 team has won the tournament each of the previous three times it has been contested. The Oakville Vytis under-16 girls (pictured, right) recently earned silver at the Ontario Basketball As- sociation championships, the fifth time in as many years they have claimed a Division 1 medal.
