Franchise businesses continuously out perform independent ventures in terms of longevity and turnover, offering a more secure method of self-employment for those considering ‘going it alone’.

A franchisee should always benefit from the experience, training, brand, partnerships and systems that have been established and these are central to the way in which Sport Works conducts business.

Sport Works is one of the most innovative companies operating in the UK sport and education sectors. We purposefully position ourselves 180° from our competitors and continually develop new programmes to stay ahead of the market.

We hold Ofsted, CHAS and Local Authority kitemarks meaning that each franchisee can be sure quality is central to our ETHOS. Our approach to franchising is underpinned by

our commitment to developing a mutually beneficial business partnership that is fair, ethical and provides sustainable income. Central to this is making sure each franchise business model is tailored specifically to the skills, experience and aspiration of each franchisee, maximising the chances of success.

A Personal Message From Our Founder

03.

A Personal Message From Our Founder Neil Cameron“As a former athlete I wholeheartedly believe in the benefits of physical exercise, not just from a health perspective but also for the enormous impact it has over quality of life. Sport Works spreads this message regionally and commits to contractually provide sport and educational programmes for specific markets including disengaged pupils, disabled youngsters and other targeted groups. Our income typically comes from central government funding which is distributed to us through local authorities and Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs). This means that we deliver programmes that are largely free to the end user and that Sport Works isn’t fighting for a share of a school budget like everyone else in our sector.

After seven years of solid growth, our slick tendering process and impeccable reputation has seen us grow into other regions. 2013 saw the launch of the Sport Works franchise and we are delighted to now have eleven franchise partners throughout the UK. A Sport Works franchise offers the perfect way for entrepreneurs like you to side step the competition and deliver highly valuable services in your own region. Our work taps into the “statutory duty” of government which means our services will always be in demand. If you have a passion for sport and education and have good interpersonal skills then we can teach you everything else you need to know to join our team!”

The Sport Works Model | The Franchise Offer

04.

The Sport Works ModelSport Works is an award-winning provider of Sport, Exercise and Educational programmes. Harnessing the power of sport, our work is focused on improving health and education and contributing to a healthier, more prosperous society.

Sport Works prides itself on being different! Our programmes are not only energetic, educational and lots of fun, they are

underpinned by solid educational principles. This means that children and adults can expect to develop skills, knowledge and achieve qualifications that will last a lifetime.

When you work within such a positive and engaging environment your experience as a business owner has rewards that are not measured purely in financial terms...your job satisfaction comes free!

The Franchise Offer As a franchise owner you’ll manage several Local Authority regions in and around where you live and be the local face of our fast growing brand.

You’ll employ local sports coaches and educational tutors and your role is to make sure that they are

maintaining the highest possible standards and delivering what is required within each contract. This means that although you’ll attend some programmes and occasionally lead from the front, your primary role is overseeing the implementation of what Sport Works does at a local level.

Making An Informed Decision

Making An Informed DecisionLaunching a new business is a big commitment. Not only is there a financial consideration but significant amounts of time and effort are required too. It’s a big commitment for us also and we want to make sure that anybody contemplating a Sport Works franchise has all the information needed to make an informed decision.

This is why we operate a robust recruitment process which enables all candidates to fully understand the Sport Works model, meet with existing franchisees and see the type of programmes we operate first hand.

We know that not everybody can build a profitable franchise, so this process equally enables us to say no if we don’t feel there is a mutual “fit” between us.

Our Senior Team is composed of experienced business managers, several of whom have launched successful Sport Works franchises, and who will help with accurate business and fincnaial planning to help you to set realistic expectations.

Your CustomersUnlike many organisations in our sector, Sport Works operates across multiple revenue streams and is not reliant on the Primary School market.

Working with niche groups of children and adults and funded mainly via Local Authorities, Colleges and local communities, the Sport Works model is highly innovative and makes a real difference to individuals with education and/or health difficulties.

From sports coaching programmes for disabled children to leisure qualifications for unemployed youths, our work taps into

the “statutory” duty of Local Authorities across the country.

This means that, even with reductions in overall public funding, money for our programmes has been ‘ring-fenced’ and is high on both national and local agendas. Most notably, this includes a £4.9billion European Social Fund for skills and training which is guaranteed until 2020.

Our work is highly varied and really makes a difference to society, whether that be for children, teenagers or even Old Age Pensioners!

‘’Sport Works offer a fantastic provision that motivates and engages NEET and vulnerable young people providing a stepping stone to employment”.

‘’Sport Works offer a sustainable programme of education for young people. They invest in training and lifelong learning opportunities building the knowledge, skills and competences of learners though sport’’.

Mark BoydConnexions Advisor

My background

Following a voluntary redundancy package from my employer in July 2014 I was faced with the decision to apply for another management position in the corporate world or take a ‘leap of faith’ and do something where I could work for myself.

Why you chose SW

I researched a number of Franchise businesses but kept coming back to Sport Works. My rationale was that if I’m going to make the step into self employment it needs to be a business I will enjoy and one that has the right support structure in place. From my first contact with Neil and his team, this was the case

What your experience has been so far

My experience so far has been very good. There have been challenges along the way, and I would say that my biggest was a lack of understanding in the sports coaching sector. This is where the Head Office support was invaluable. I knew if I could master this that my previous experience of managing staff, recruitment, operations etc would play a big part in how I developed the business.

What contracts have you won?

Within the first 12 months I have secured a one year contract with a Local Authority worth over £85,000. I have also been awarded funding from Sport England to deliver disability swimming in my home town of Bury and there are lots of exciting opportunities in the pipeline for 2016 and beyond.

Any advice to somebody thinking of taking on a franchise

My advice to anybody looking at an opportunity to join Sport Works is to meet the Head Office Team, talk to other franchisees and really understand the model and what is expected before making a commitment. If you are passionate about wanting to run your own business, work hard but also have some fun, the support network from Head Office and the other franchisees is in place for you to achieve great success.

09.Your Income Potential

10.

Your Income PotentialSport Works is one of the fastest growing organisations in the UK sport and education market. We attribute this to the consistently high levels of support we provide to our franchise network, a continually evolving business model which is not reliant on one sector and the fact we see each franchisee as a true business partner – not a number.

Financially speaking Sport Works is capable of giving you a comfortable lifestyle whilst also positively impacting your local community. The value of the contracts we deliver ranges from £20,000 to £100,000 per year and you’ll generally enjoy a profit of over 50% even though

your coaches and tutors are delivering the programmes. This provides a predictable income stream, typically over a two to three year period per contract without the worry of bad debt!

Within each Sport Works area you have the potential to scale the business up significantly should you want to, which means that our franchise is suitable for go getting entrepreneurs as well as sole traders who wish to work flexible hours.

Either way, a Sport Works franchise delivers a handsome return on the franchise fee of only £12,950.

Case Study 2My background

From an early age I have always loved sport and my leisure time has always been structured around it. My professional

career has been focused on business development and playing key roles in adapting the businesses I have worked in for growth. I have spent nearly 10 years of my working life as part of senior management teams. Why you chose SW

I believe I have gained the majority of the important lessons on getting on in life through my involvement in sport. The Sport Works model is based on this same principle and expectation, so it is something I believe in.

I liked the fact Sport Works targets markets that are not straightforward to deliver in. It means despite the definite need for the service the competition is less. This also means as the business owner your role is much more related to setting things up, overcoming problems, building teams and motivating others than actually coaching.

I liked the fact that the business can be grown at our own pace, can be run from home and business costs are minimal until you have any confirmed business.

What your experience has been so far

The first few months are all about developing contacts and relationships to help you identify opportunities. However, once you start getting in front of people in this sector they are much easier to talk to than other sectors I have worked in. They are also very happy to introduce you to others so your network grows quickly. As your network grows so do the opportunities. What contracts have you won?

Six months in and we have secured a position on a commissioning framework across two counties. Both of these present fantastic opportunities to build a sustainable revenue stream. We have also secured work in local Primary Schools

Any advice to somebody thinking of taking on a franchise

Do your research. Speak to Local Authorities, parent groups and school teachers to gain an understanding of how the marketplace works and where the opportunities are in your area.

You don’t need to be a coach but understanding how a good coach operates is important. Therefore if you don’t have a coaching qualification go down to a local sports club and ask to help out for a few weeks. Watch, listen and talk to the coaches so you can form a clear idea of the attributes a good coach has.
