Sport Solent continues to support top level athletes who strive for academic success alongside their national and international sporting careers. Southampton Solent University has number of sport scholarships on offer
THE SPORT SOLENT SCHOLARSHIP
The Sport Solent Scholarship is for students with great potential as basketball or cricket players.
For each successful applicant, academic fees are covered by Southampton Solent University at 100% for the fi rst academic year and then for 50% for Year 2 and Year 3.
The benefi ts of the Sport Solent Scholarship
• Personal mentor to liaise between academic departments, athletes & university authorities
• One-to-one Strength and Conditioning training sessions
• FREE use of Sport Solent facilities
• FREE membership to Team Solent sports clubs including sports insurance
• High Performance support workshops & lectures (nutrition, media training, time management)
• Additional funding to compete at International sporting events
• Flexible timetables
• Physiotherapy treatments
Criteria to apply for the Sport Solent Scholarship
• Be a Home or International student as defi ned by Southampton Solent University
• Be accepted on a full-time, undergraduate or postgraduate Degree programme
• Have two “A” grades and one “B” at A levels or equivalent
• The Sport Solent Scholarship applies to basketball and cricket only

HIGH PERFORMANCE ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIP
The High Performance Academy programme offers different levels of support to students based on their sporting talent and potential.
There are three categories in which a successful applicant can fall under:
• High Performance Squad
• Development Squad
• Performance Squad
Each successful applicant could receive a package worth up to the value of £2,500.
The benefi ts of the High Performance Academy Scholarship
• One-to-one Strength and Conditioning training sessions
• Physiotherapy treatments
• Discounted accommodation
• Expenses for competitions

• Be accepted on a full-time, undergraduate or postgraduate Degree programme
• Reference from the highest level coach you have worked with
• International representation at Senior, or age group level. Inclusion in NGB development or Excel programmes
Criteria to apply for the High Performance Squad Scholarship
• Be a Home or International student as defi ned by Southampton Solent University
• Be accepted on a full-time, undergraduate or postgraduate Degree programme
• Reference from the highest level coach you have worked with
• National representation in a chosen sport
Criteria to apply for the Develpoment Squad Scholarship
(Football, Cricket, Sailing, Basketball)*• Be a Home or International student as defi ned by Southampton Solent University
• Be accepted on a full-time, undergraduate or postgraduate Degree programme
• Recommendation from University club Head Coach
• Reference from the highest level coach you have worked with
• Competing at national or regional level
Football: Previous selection as part of a Professional Academy (School of Excellence) and/or current participation within a step 5 and above set-up.
Cricket: First Class County, Minor County or regular ECB Premier League player.
Sailing: Previous performance at an International Regatta and/or selection as part of a GB RYA Development Squad.
Basketball: Participation in Junior or Senior National League.
Criteria to apply for the Performance Squad Scholarship*
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
All athletes successful in receiving an award must agree to the athlete’s agreement and any other specifi c requests outlined by each award. Continuation of the scholarship on a yearly basis will be dependent on the recipient making satisfactory academic and sporting progress.
All applications received by the closing date below will be considered by the Sport Solent Scholarships Award panel. Athletes will be informed of the outcome of their application as soon as possible.
Applications will be accepted from students on any year of their undergraduate and postgraduate programme. Closing Date for all applications is the 30th July 2013.

Olympic sailor and 2010 Match Racing World Champion Kate McGregor is a member of the High Performance Academy and says: “The High Performance Academy has helped balance both my academic studies, training and competitions. It has also provided expert strength and conditioning guidance, which plays a very important role in sailing.”
National League Division 2 and Premier BUCS League basketball player Melanie Curson comments: “The Sport Solent Scholarship provided me with an opportunity to further my knowledge while competing at national and international levels. With the help provided by Sport Solent and the High Performance Academy, I have had a seamless link and transition with my academic studies and sporting career which has related in the development of my mental and physical strength”.
