The master’s programme aims at developing advanced knowledge, skills and abilities to work with sport, leisure and health industries as sites for social change. Emphasis is placed on in-depth abilities to critically analyse, discuss, problematise and develop sport towards an equal and sustainable society. The programme provides critical perspectives on sport, leisure and health on local, regional, national and international levels. The impacts and pressures of social processes, such as globalisation, professionalisation, urbanisation and migration, are examined and discussed. The concept of sustainable society, including social, economic and environmental aspects, is used to investigate and problematize issues concerning integration, cultural diversity, in-clusion and exclusion. The governance, organisation and management of sport is analysed from ethical and political perspectives, involving questions regarding democracy, justice and equality.

The critical approach is used to constructively identify problems and unfulfilled potential of sport, leisure and health. Emphasis is then placed on finding and developing innovative solutions and initiatives for change towards sustainable sport and society.

Sport related organisations and urban environments, with associated challenges and initia-tives are used as living case studies. The students also actively contribute with experiences from different countries and sports cultures.
