    PANELIST COORDINATOR

    James [email protected] is a 4th year student at York Universitys Glendon College pursuing a Specialized Honours in International Studies. His academic interests include InternationalRelations theories, the economics and development of the Asia Pacific region and social theory. James was born in the Philippines, currently holding a Canadiacitizenship and formerly domiciled in the Netherlands in between. Through the Korea Symposium, James hopes to further his understanding in regard to the security

    political, economic, developmental and social aspects of the Korean peninsula.

    PROJECT COORDINATOR

    Christopher Long is the Project Coordinator for the International Symposium on South Korea. Christopher is a fourth year student at Glendon College, studyinInternational Studies with a minor in History. His third year was spent on exchange in Istanbul, Turkey through York International, which was an invaluable experienthat has since inspired him to further explore global dynamics from the Europe to Asia. His passion for Korea and its regional politics in Asia will be a crucial factor in tdirection he takes in his post-graduate studies.

    COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND FUNDRAISING COORDINATOR

    Tanya [email protected] is in her fourth year of a trilingual international baccalaureate in International Studies with general honours and is also aiming at aCertificate of Proficiency in Spanish and a Bilingual Excellence Certificate. Tanya spent a year studying abroad at Yonsei University in Seoul,at the Underwood Department of International Studies and a semester at Kyung Hee University where she first learned Korean. Those pastexperiences allowed her to deepen her knowledge of the rich historical, cultural and political context of Korea and convinced her to pursuestudies in international affairs focusing on North East Asia. Tanya is bilingual in French and English and is fluent in Korean and Spanish. Heracademic interests include the international protection of human rights, foreign policy, the role of the UN in International Relations, NortheastAsias history and the diplomatic and economic ties between Canada and Korea. Tanya wishes to volunteer for a year in an international

    organization in Asia and then apply to graduate school where she hopes to deepen her knowledge of international relations, foreign policyand Northeast Asia; where it will prove to be a valuable asset for a career in foreign affairs.

    FINANCE COORDINATOR

    Simon [email protected] recently returned to Toronto after having spent his third year of university studying in Turkey and backpacking across the Middle East. Simons curiosity and itcto travel have opened his eyes to the complexities of the world and its hidden treasures and struggles. The Korea Symposium is a great opportunity for Simon as hdesires to deepen his understanding of the Korean peninsula and its relations with the rest of Asia and the world. He is excited to share his passion for the region wpanelists and attendees. After graduation, Simon hopes to travel to Korea to further his research and ultimately pursue a career in diplomacy or conflict resolution.

    MEDIA &COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

    Monique is a student at York Universitys Glendon College completing the 3rd year of a Bilingual Specialized Honours B.A. in InternationalStudies and aiming to simultaneously complete a Certificate in Law and Social Thought from the Department of Philosophy. Armed with abackground in journalism and an insatiable curiosity about the world, she travelled to Chile in 2008 to report on the aftermath of theearthquake and tsunami, witnessing first hand the strength of the human spirit, this experience would prove to be a life-altering one inspiringher to pursue a degree in International Studies. Fluent in English, French and Spanish, her academic interests include international relationsand its implications on democracy, social justice and foreign relations with a particular interest in the Latin American region. She is excited toengage with the rich Korean history and culture and is certain the symposium will serve as an exceptional opportunity to further expand herresearch and practical skills in the area of media and communications as well as provide opportunities to gain new skills in areas ofdiplomacy.

    LOGISTICS COORDINATOR

    Edith [email protected] Blanchet is a student of York University who is presently completing the fourth year of her Specialized Honours BA in InternationalStudies. In May 2012, she went to Viet Nam for one month to work as a volunteer. She participated in a project on sustainable developmentfor the organisation Peace for Viet Nam. Her mission was to write a proposal on the construction of an organic garden, in order to submit it topotential sponsors. Edith is bilingual in French and English. She focuses her interest in the evolution of the relations and general agreementsbetween States, as well as the issues and actors of international development. She has a significant interest for the sustainable developmentprojects managed by NGDO. Next year, she intends to enroll for a master in science of management so as to specialize on the management

    of international development and humanitarian action.
